Abstract

Chronic kidney disease is a permanent disease that occurs when the body is unable to maintain the balance of fluids and electrolytes, leading to reduced kidney function. This study quantifies the distribution of therapy profiles among patients with chronic kidney disease, taking into account drug classes, names, doses, and methods of administration. The percentages are calculated based on doctors' statements. This descriptive research used total population sampling as a method for data collection. A total of 55 medical records met the research criteria. The therapy profile that was used most frequently, with a proportion of 13.60%, was the vitamin and mineral group. The medicine name Aminefron® accounted for 8.45% of the results. The prescribed dose was 3x2 capsules per day. The oral route represented the highest percentage of usage, at 55.67%. The doctor's declaration indicated that the percentage of patients who improved was 52.73%, while 38.18% remained sick and 9.09% unfortunately died.

Abstract

Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals, playing a role in preventing degenerative diseases. Cinnamon has very strong antioxidant activity. Edible film can function as carriers of antioxidant compounds. This research was conducted to determine the physical quality and antioxidant activity of cinnamon extract mucoadhesive edible film. The research method used is quantitative experimental. There are four edible film mucoadhesive formulas with different concentrations of cinnamon extract added, namely 0% at F0, 5% at F1, 10% at F2 and 15% at F3. The test results for organoleptic F0 are clear white, odorless, thin, and sticky sheets, pH 7.54; thickness 0.026 mm; weight uniformity 30.93; water content 32.61%. The organoleptic test results for F1 are dark brown, have a typical cinnamon smell, are thin and non-sticky sheets, pH 6.78; thickness 0.063 mm; weight uniformity 30.52; water content 17.32%. The organoleptic test results for F2 are dark brown, have a typical cinnamon smell, are thin and non-sticky sheets, pH 6.21; thickness 0.073 mm; weight uniformity 24.53; water content 12.81%. The organoleptic test results for F3 are dark brown, have a typical cinnamon smell, are thin and non-sticky sheets, pH 6.29; thickness 0.08 mm; weight uniformity 15.42; water content 15.74%. The antioxidant activity was weak in F0, very strong in F1, F2, and F3.  Edible film mucoadhesive cinnamon extract in formulas F1, F2, and F3 produces good physical properties according to standards and has very strong antioxidant activity. The conclusion of this study shows that cinnamon extract can be formulated into Edible Film Mucoadhesive, as seen from its antioxidant activity in F3, with an extract concentration of 15%.

Abstract

Lead (Pb) is one of the most commonly found heavy metal contaminants in cosmetic products. Continuous exposure to lead (Pb) can cause pathological changes in body organs and may lead to cancer. Therefore, it is essential to measure the concentration of lead in cosmetics to ensure safety and prevent potential side effects. This article aims to determine the most effective method for analyzing lead (Pb) content in cosmetic preparations using various instruments, including UV-Vis Spectrophotometry and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). This study was conducted by comparing the validation results of both instruments. The results showed that the lead (Pb) content in most cosmetic preparations was below the safety limit set by the Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM) Indonesian, which is <20 ppm. Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) was selected as the most optimal method, as it met all validation parameters with high accuracy and precision. It also demonstrated higher sensitivity, with lower LOD (Limit of Detection) and LOQ (Limit of Quantification) values compared to UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. Therefore, AAS is superior in detecting and quantifying lead in cosmetic preparations

Abstract

Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that is commonly found in packaged beverages. While moderate consumption provides cognitive and physical benefits, excessive intake may cause adverse health effects, including anxiety disorders, insomnia, cardiovascular diseases, and renal dysfunction. Consequently, accurate and validated analytical methods are essential for determining caffeine levels in commercial beverages. This review evaluates analytical instruments and techniques for caffeine quantification, drawing on national and international studies published between 2015 and 2025. The methods examined include UV-Visible Spectrophotometry, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC–MS), Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC), and High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC). Validation was assessed using parameters such as limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), precision, accuracy, and linearity. The findings indicate that all methods meet acceptable validation criteria. Among them, UPLC demonstrated the highest sensitivity, while HPTLC provided advantages in speed and operational efficiency. Therefore, the choice of method for caffeine determination should be guided by analytical objectives, laboratory resources, and required sensitivity.

Abstract

Face mist is a cosmetic that is included in skin fresheners, is more practical to use, and has the potential to add antioxidants. Vitamin C is one source of antioxidants. Although water-soluble, vitamin C is an antioxidant that oxidizes readily. Sodium metabisulfite must be added to prevent oxidized vitamin C from becoming unstable. Topical treatments containing 0.01–1.0% sodium metabisulfite act as antioxidants. Therefore, a face mist preparation was made with variations in the concentration of sodium metabisulfite, namely 0.25%, 0.5%, and 1%. This study aims to see an increase in the stability of vitamin C face mist preparations with an increase in the concentration of sodium metabisulfite through physicochemical stability testing under real-time storage conditions for 28 days. The parameters to be observed in the stability test include organoleptic test, pH, specific weight, viscosity, and vitamin C levels. The F1 formula with the smallest concentration of sodium metabisulfite (0.25%) has been able to maintain the stability of vitamin C face mist preparations for 28 days of storage

Abstract

Self-care practices and appropriate glycemic management may prevent diabetic ulcer, a complication that has a detrimental effect on patients and their families. Through mobile-health applications, educational initiatives can increase patient awareness and promote the early preventative measures required to minimize complications from diabetes. The purpose of this review of the literature is to investigate research on the development of mobile-health applications for people with diabetes. The articles reviewed were obtained through keyword searches in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases within the last 10 years. According to seven published articles, six applications were created as self-care resources for people with diabetes mellitus. In order to prevent diabetic ulcer, mobile-health applications might assist people with diabetes maintain their independence in self-care routines.

Abstract

Glucose content in confectionery products requires careful monitoring due to its association with serious health conditions including obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. This study examined glucose levels in three lidah kucing cookie samples from Pontianak Tenggara district retailers to assess nutritional variability in these traditional Indonesian confections. The research employed a dual analytical approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Initial screening utilized Fehling and Benedict reagent tests to confirm glucose presence, followed by precise quantitative analysis using the Nelson-Somogyi method with UV-visible spectrophotometry. The quantitative protocol involved standard solution preparation, calibration curve development, optimal wavelength determination, and triplicate sample measurements to ensure analytical reliability. Qualitative testing confirmed glucose presence in all three samples through positive Fehling and Benedict reactions. Quantitative analysis revealed significant concentration variations among products. Sample A contained 0.227 percent glucose, Sample B demonstrated substantially higher levels at 0.993 percent, while Sample C showed minimal glucose content at 0.004 percent. These results indicate considerable variability in glucose concentrations across commercially available lidah kucing products within the study area. The investigation successfully established glucose presence in all examined samples while documenting substantial differences in glucose concentrations among similar commercial products. These findings highlight the importance of analytical monitoring in traditional confectionery items and demonstrate significant nutritional variation among comparable products in local markets. The results provide essential baseline data for consumer awareness and potential regulatory considerations regarding glucose content in traditional Indonesian baked goods, supporting informed dietary choices and public health initiatives.
