Abstract

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) is a plant that is widely used as raw material for making sugar and can be enjoyed directly by extracting the juice. While the pulp has not been utilized and is often disposed of as waste. This study aims to make compost using Trichoderma (LBKURCC1 and LBKURCC2) and Pseudomonas (LBKURCC54 and LBKURCC59) as bioactivators. The composting process is done by mixing bagasse and chicken manure with a ratio of 2: 1 and adding isolate fungus Trichoderma sp. and Pseudomonas stutzeri bacteria as activator with several combinations on compost media with 5 treatment. Compost treatment includes P0 (control), P1 (J1_J2_B1), P2 (J1_J2_B2), P3 (J1_B1_B2), P4 (J2_B1_B2) and P5 (J1_J2_B1), P3 (J1_J2_B1_B2). The process of composting bagasse is done in a poly bag. Analyzed of compost quality was determined based on parameters of temperature, water content and the levels of C/N ratio observed for 18 days. In this study, the use of Trichoderma (LBKURCC1 and LBKURCC2) and Pseudomonas (LBKURCC54 and LBKURCC59) as bioactivators in a mixture of compost material gave a significant difference to control at the C/N ratio with a value of P> 0.05. The highest C/N ratio is from P5 (28.43) and the lowest is from P2 (5.17).

Abstract

Azotobacter might be used as biological agents in bioremediation of heavy metal-contaminated soil since this rhizobacteria produceexopolysachharides (EPS) that mobilize soil heavy metals, and phytohormones that regulate root growth. So that heavy metal uptake bythe roots could be increased. The objective of this research was to verify the stability of EPS and phytohormones in Azotobacter liquidinoculants during four months in different temperature storage. Liquid inoculants has been produced in EPS-induced media and stored in200C and room temperature (24-270C) during four months. The results showed that the better temperature storage was room temperatureinstead of 20 0C since pH, total N, and EPS and phytohormones content was relatively stable during storage.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to evaluate the physicochemical and functional properties of aibon (Brugueiragymnorhiza L.) starch. Research’s results show that the form of aibon starch granule was ellips like kidney, withsize of 5-4.5 μm, has high amylose content of 32.35%, and gelatinization temperature of 85.5-95oC. It also has highsolubility (7oBrix) and swelling powered of 14.83% at 90oC. Pasting behavior of starch suspension (6.5%, w/v)shows the initial pasting temperature at 85.5oC and peak viscosity 200 BU reached at 93oC. The wide range ofgelatinization temperature makes aibon starch resistant to high heat temperature. Functional characters thatmake aibon starch important for industrial application are its non-adhesive and un-sticky paste, increasing viscositywhile it was heated, unstable gel forming, and low stability to freezing-thawing cycle. Aibon starch also haspotential usage for carbohydrate base products that need starch which has heat resistant granule but does notneed starch that has high viscosity paste.
