Abstract

This research was conducted from Mei to June 2009 in the NagedangLakes Giri Sako Villages Logas Tanah Darat Sub-District Kuantan SingingiDistrict, Riau Province. The objective of this research was to predict waterproductivity as water fertilizing level from phytoplankton chlorophyll – α. Surveymethods were used for analysis this research were carried out by combining thephysic and chemical water parameters and also biological parameter(phytoplankton organism) observations. The predict results of this research that taken from 4 stations. It has beenfound average of chlorophyll- α as secchi depth were 37,783 – 43,766 (μg/l); 3class of phytoplankton such as Cyanophyta (15 species), Chlorophyta (11species), and Bacillariophyta (7 species) with average of phytoplanktonpopulation value were 29.873 – 48.237 ind/l; average of physical waterparameters that consist of depth : 235 – 792,3 m, thermo : 28,8 – 29 oC, secchi :74 – 80,3 cm, turbidy : 18,47 – 19,38 NTU, pH : 5,16 – 5,43: Oxygen : 5,26 –5,86 mg/l: carbon dioxide : 5,86 – 8,46 mg/l: Nitrate : 0,0606 – 0,0776 mg/l andphosphate : 0,0237 – 0,0253 mg/l. That value was mean that chlorophyll – α ofphytoplankton in Nagedang Lakes were very productive caused chlorophyllconcentration more than 20 μg/l and based on average of phytoplanktonpopulation shown that Nagedang Lakes were eutrophic (very fertilize) withpopulation more than 104 ind/l. Phytoplankton population had positive correlationwith chlorophyll concentration. The physical and chemical water parameter stillgood for aquatic organism such as phytoplankton and fishes.

Abstract

This research was conducted from July to September 2008. It was aimedto understand the growth rings pattern in the otolith of Channa striata. Thirthyfour fishes were collected with variations sizes. Growth rings pattern in the otolithwas studied by shaving the otolith, following methods described by Windarti(2007). The number of rings were counted and their pattern were described. Results shown that growth ring pattern in the otolith is varied, the ringsare consisted of thick and thin rings. Many fishes have several thick rings aroundthe nucleus of the otolith, while few fishes have thin rings around the nucleus. These data shown that many fishes faced growth related problems when they areyoung as it is indicated by the presence of thick rings around the nucleus. It ispredicted that small/young fish may not be able to tolerate water quality changingdue to the presence of pollutant.

Abstract

Tidal range and tidal current in Sungai Mesjid Estuary have been analyzedin order to find out whether the tidal power in this area could be generated theelectricity. Observations conducted at the end of 2007 and early 2008. Maximumtidal height was 2.8 m and current velocity 0.05 – 0.49 m/s. The tidal type ismixed predominantly semidiurnal tide, flood and ebb tide occur twice a day.Tidal energy conversion (TEC) for low current velocity has been designed.Low tidal current could generated electricity 7.72 Watts and high tidal currentable to generate 78.76 Watts. There was a positive correlation between tidalcurrent velocity and voltages as well as electric power.

Abstract

A research on fishes in the Tenayan river and in the swamp aroundthe river has been conducted on July to October 2008 and January to February2009. Fish samples were taken at three sites namely in the downstream, upstreamand in the swamp around downstream area. The fishes collected by gill-net, fishtrap and scoop-net. The specimen was identified based on weber and De Beaufort(1913 and 1916), Nelson (1976), Saanin (1986) dan Kottelat et al. (1993). Fishescollected are belonged to order Cypriniformes (14 species), Siluriformes (4species), Cyprinodontiformes (14 species) and Perciformes (10 species). Mostspecimen from the upper stream belonged to order Cypriniformes andCyprinodontiformes, while fishes capture in the swamp around the downstreamarea mainly belonged to order Perciformes. Surprisingly, a new species that hasnot been collected in the zoological museum, LIPI, Cibinong was capture in thestudy area and this fish is identified as Esomus sp. Fishes that are present in thestream mostly categorized as the primary family. Fish species that are abundancein the stream are Esomus sp.

Abstract

This research was conducted since September until November 2008 at theWater Quality Management and Paracyties and Desease of Fish LaboratoryFaculty of Fishery and Marine Science Riau University. The aims of this researchwas to identify the damage of gill tissue structure red tilapia (Oreochromisniloticus). This research using experimental method and use completed randomdesign 1 factor with 4 treatments and 3 replications. This research using red tilapiathe measure of 8-10 cm, weight 30-40 gram from the hatchery in Pekanbaru.Result of the research show the toxicant giving effect on gill structure changes ofred tillapia fish. Fish of treatment experience of the change of structure of gillnetwork, especially happened by the nekrosis, proliferasi cells, a few moltenlamella, haemorhage and there are worm, and also secondary lamella.Concentration of toxicant hence smaller footage and apart between secondarylamella of red tillapia fish. On the contrary, excelsior of concentration of toxicant, hence wide progressively secondary lamella of gill red tillapia fish. Result of theexperiments indicated that toxicant of the AlK(SO4)212H2O concentrations havean effect on the gills tissue structure of red tilapia. Concentrations of toxicantincrease caused the gills tissue structure came to be better.
