Abstract

In some cases of dead victims, the doctor is expected to be able to estimate the manner of death and other factors that have contributed to the death. One way to get a more systematic analysis of the probable causes of death is to examine how many different organs weigh.  Assessment of the weight of this organ is needed to determine whether the internal organs are at average weight. This study aims to assess the weight profile of the autopsied kidney at Bhayangkara Hospital Pekanbaru for 2016-2021. The research design used was a retrospective descriptive of Visum et Repertum (VeR) data on autopsied death victims at Bhayangkara Hospital Pekanbaru for the 2016-2022 period. The results of this research are that the number of cases of victims who died at autopsy was 163 cases, with a weight of 110.84 grams in the left kidney and 108.15 grams in the right kidney. The sex that performed the most autopsy was male, namely 122 cases with an average weight of the left kidney of 116.15 grams and 112.18 grams of the right. The age range is 26-45 years, with the left kidney weighing 111.31 grams and 109.30 grams of the right kidney.

Abstract

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused many countries to implement online education. The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Riau carried out online histology learning with demonstration videos and slide shows using the ZOOM platform during the pandemic. The study aims to compare the results of the Histology practicum exam between face-to-face and online learning methods for students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau in 2019 and 2020. This research is an analytical research with a cross-sectional approach. The average results of histology practicum scores in three blocks, namely the Nervous and Locomotor System block, the Circulatory and Respiratory System block, and the Digestive, Metabolic and Endocrine System blocks in 2019 using face-to-face methods and in 2020 using online methods with a p-value of 0.000. The conclusion of this study is that learning histology practicum online methods is better than face-to-face methods.

Abstract

Managing symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is important but preventing the progression of the disease is also necessary. Medical therapy is commonly used to treat BPH as initial therapy. However, not every medical therapy is effective for treating BPH. Intravesical prostatic protrusion (IPP), a manifestation of BPH is used to evaluate BPH progression thus helping clinicians in choosing the effective treatment option. Patients with higher IPP degrees may experience more severe bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). They may not respond well to medical therapies, suggesting that IPP measurement can guide treatment decisions for BPH patients. This study evaluates the accuracy of using IPP degree as a predictor of BPH management by reviewing relevant literature. A comprehensive approach was undertaken, including the selection and filtering of articles from reputable databases and scholarly repositories using specific keywords related to the study's objectives. By measuring IPP degrees, the severity of clinical BPH can be categorized, allowing clinicians to choose effective treatment options and predict treatment outcomes.

Abstract

Approximately 6-9% of all orbital tumors are orbital cavernous hemangiomas, which are the most prevalent kind of orbital lesion. A case of a 34-years-old male presented with a painless and palpable mass in the lower eyelid, left eye (LE) since three years ago. There was a bluish discoloration of the tarsal conjunctiva of the lower eyelid. The patient underwent resection of the tumor mass, the histopathological results of cavernous hemangioma. Cavernous hemangioma may present in the lower eyelid, which is an uncommon location. Most cavernous reported several cases of cavernous hemangioma in the upper eyelid. But only one case was reported in the lower eyelid, so it is important to keep in mind the differential diagnosis of other eyelid tumors.

Abstract

Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) is a rare congenital tumor primarily affecting infants, with a prevalence of approximately 1 in 35,000 live births. These tumors, often detected either prenatally or shortly after birth, originate from germ cells and typically occur at the base of the coccyx. Despite their benign nature, SCTs can pose significant risks to fetal and maternal health, necessitating careful management and monitoring. A 32-year-old primiparous woman presented to Siak Regional Hospital at 36 weeks of gestation with complaints of uterine contractions and bloody mucus discharge from the birth canal. A physical examination revealed a palpable mass in the uterine fundus and pubic symphysis. Ultrasonography confirmed the presence of a fetal SCT with a solid mass measuring 6.2 x 8.1 x 7.3 cm in the sacral region, and a cesarean section was performed. The infant, a baby girl, was born with a birth weight of 2150 grams and an Apgar score of 3/4. Congenital abnormalities were observed in the form of a solid mass around the sacrum, indicative of SCT. SCT poses challenges in prenatal diagnosis, management, and prognosis. Prompt recognition and multidisciplinary management are essential for optimizing outcomes. Further research is needed to enhance understanding and improve therapeutic strategies for this rare congenital anomaly. SCT is a rare congenital anomaly that requires early diagnosis. Thorough examination with ultrasonography is essential to rule out other congenital anomaly, and predict prognosis.

Abstract

Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gingiva caused by plaque and poor oral hygiene, including in patients with long-term diabetes mellitus and uncontrolled blood glucose. Gingivitis is caused by various bacteria such as Streptococcus sp, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Neisseria meningitidis and also the Enterobacteriaceae family, Haemophilus influenzae and Actinomycetes. Management of infection with antibiotics, especially beta-lactam class. The study aimed to determine the characteristics of the research subjects, the type of bacteria, and their sensitivity to the bacteria that cause gingivitis in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. The research was a cross-sectional descriptive study at the internal medicine polyclinic at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province, and the Microbiology Laboratory of Medical Faculty, Universitas Riau. The research sample was a gingivitis plaque swab in DM patients who signed an informed consent. Samples were cultured, identified, and tested for antibiotic sensitivity. The results of the study obtained 34 samples with characteristics aged 33-67 years, most of them were women, high school education/equivalent, civil servants/army/police/retired. Most aerobic bacteria Klebsiella sp. The highest sensitivity to levofloxacin, amikacin, ciprofloxacin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and meropenem, the lowest sensitivity to amoxicillin, ceftazidim, and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid.

Abstract

Measuring the patient satisfaction index is essential to establish a baseline for improving service quality in subsequent years. The Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) method is an effective approach to determine the overall patient satisfaction index over time. At Bhayangkara Hospital Pekanbaru, the satisfaction index of clinical forensic patients has not been previously assessed. This study aims to measure the satisfaction index of clinical forensic patients using the CSI method. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 284 clinical forensic patients at Bhayangkara Hospital Pekanbaru, selected through consecutive sampling. The modified SERVQUAL questionnaire, encompassing five service quality dimensions—reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles served as the research instrument. Data were analyzed using the CSI method. The results indicated that the mean overall satisfaction perception was 4.59, with the highest mean observed in the assurance dimension (4.63). Responsiveness was identified as the most important service quality dimension by clinical forensic patients (mean = 4.90). The overall satisfaction index calculated through CSI was 91.2%, indicating a very satisfied level, with the highest satisfaction index in the assurance dimension (92.72%) and the lowest in tangibles (90%). The target for the clinical forensic patient satisfaction index for the coming year should aim to surpass the index obtained in this study.
