Abstract

This study investigates the impact of implementing Liveworksheets in teaching basic English literacy to tenth-grade students at a Senior High School in Bali. Literacy is a fundamental skill essential for educational success and daily life navigation. Indonesian students face unengaging reading content and language difficulties. This research addresses this issue by utilizing Liveworksheets, a digital platform that transforms traditional worksheets into interactive, multimedia-rich learning tools. This quasi-experimental study used a post-test-only control group design to determine whether there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in basic English literacy skills. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses reveal that the experimental group outperformed the control group, with a mean score of 89.43 versus 74.49. The significance value obtained (p < 0.05) confirms the positive impact of Liveworksheets on students' literacy skills. Additionally, the effect size calculation indicates a substantial practical impact. The findings suggest integrating digital media like Liveworksheets into teaching practices can significantly improve student motivation, engagement, and learning outcomes. This study contributes to the theoretical understanding of digital media in education and offers practical insights for educators seeking innovative teaching tools to enhance literacy education.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the implementation of Liveworksheets in teaching basic English literacy among 7th-grade students. This study used a quasi-experimental research design with a post-test only for both the control group and the experimental group. The population was the seventh-grade students. Two classes were selected as samples, with each class containing 36 and 35 students. IBM Statistics SPSS 26 was used for the analysis of the collected data. The results of the data analysis show that students in the experimental group achieved higher mean scores (M = 81.25) compared to the control group (M = 69.57). In addition, the independent sample t-test results indicate a significant difference between the two groups. Moreover, the results of Cohen’s d effect size with a score of 1.303 indicate a large effect of the influence of Liveworksheets on students’ basic English literacy. The results of this experiment indicate that Liveworksheets affect students’ basic English literacy skills.

Abstract

Although TikTok has been widely utilized as an educational medium, there remains a lack of empirical research examining its specific impact on vocabulary acquisition. Therefore, this study examined the impact of using popular TikTok songs as a medium for teaching English vocabulary to students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 2 Buleleng. With a mixed-methods approach, the research integrated a quasi-experimental design with qualitative observations to assess the effectiveness of TikTok-based vocabulary learning compared to conventional teaching methods. This study involved two groups: an experimental class, where students learned vocabulary through selected TikTok songs, and a control class, which followed a traditional textbook-based approach. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests to measure vocabulary acquisition, along with classroom observations to evaluate student engagement and participation. The findings revealed a significant improvement in vocabulary mastery among students in the experimental group, with their average score increasing from 63.52 in the pre-test to 83.22 in the post-test. Meanwhile, students in the control group showed only a slight improvement, from 64.00 in the pre-test to 67.76 in the post-test. The implications of the significant improvement in vocabulary mastery among students in the experimental group suggest that integrating popular TikTok songs into English vocabulary instruction can effectively enhance learning outcomes. This approach not only improves students' vocabulary acquisition more substantially than traditional methods but also indicates that engaging, culturally relevant digital media can serve as a powerful tool to boost motivation, participation, and confidence in language learning. This study highlights the potential of social media as an educational tool and encourages educators to explore creative, student-centered approaches to enhance language learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate using digital flashcards as a learning tool for tenth-grade SMA Negeri 1 Singaraja students' instruction in reading comprehension. Given the challenges students have in their reading comprehension, integrating digital learning tools can be a successful approach for raising engagement and comprehension among them. Two groups—an experimental group guided using digital flashcards and a control group guided using conventional media—were part of a quasi-experimental research design. A post-test was done to assess how digital flashcards might affect students' reading comprehension. The gathered data, which included homogeneity tests, normality tests, and an independent t-test to determine statistical significance, was analysed using SPSS. The results showed that the experimental group did noticeably better than the control group, implying that digital flashcards improve the reading comprehension of students. According to the findings, digital flashcards can be quite a useful and interesting tool for raising students' reading competency. The study adds to the growing corpus of studies on digital learning media and provides useful guidelines for teachers on including technology in English language instruction.

Abstract

This study examines coherence and cohesion in paragraphs written by high school students learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Employing an explanatory sequential mixed-method design, data were gathered through cluster random sampling, with one class selected as the study sample. The students’ recount paragraphs were analyzed using both quantitative scoring and qualitative content analysis to capture a comprehensive understanding of their writing skills within the EFL context. The results revealed a high level of coherence, with an average score of 83, indicating that students were able to organize ideas logically and connect sentences clearly. These findings underscore the critical role of EFL educators in developing students’ mastery of coherence and cohesion, which are essential for effective writing. The study highlights the importance of teachers possessing strong evaluative skills to identify strengths and weaknesses in student writing, thereby enabling targeted instruction that can enhance writing proficiency in EFL settings.
