Abstract

Using Drama-Based Pedagogy and CAR, this study aims to improve students' speaking fluency. The study was conducted at SMPN 5 Singaraja, with 35 students in grade IX. As a result of limited exposure to English communication and a lack of self-confidence, initial observations revealed that students struggled to speak fluently. To address this issue, the researcher employed a drama-based teaching approach that incorporates activities such as role-playing, expressive reading, and dramatization. This approach involves stages of engagement, activation, reflection, and application. The study was conducted in two cycles: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Pre-tests, post-tests, observations, and interviews were used to collect data. The results of the study indicate that students' speaking fluency continued to improve.

Abstract

This study employs an explanatory mixed method design to investigate the user experience and enjoyment of ChatGPT among 219 grade 12 students and four English teachers at one high school in Bali. Quantitative data were collected using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) and analyzed with the Data Analysis Tool, while qualitative data were gathered through interviews and subjected to thematic analysis. Results reveal that students had generally positive experiences across dimensions such as attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, dependability, and novelty but reported neutral stimulation levels, attributed to high technology dependence and limited social interaction. In contrast, teachers reported uniformly positive experiences across all dimensions and demonstrated greater personal and social enjoyment. The findings indicate that user enjoyment significantly influences overall ChatGPT user experience in educational contexts. This study highlights the need to enhance engagement strategies to improve stimulation for student users, offering important insights for AI integration in education.

Abstract

The presidential debate is a crucial moment in the democratic process, where candidates convey their vision, mission, and work programs directly to the public. This study aims to analyze the form and function of illocutionary speech acts in the Indonesian presidential candidate debate in 2024. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with the theoretical basis of pragmatics, in the category of speech act forms using the theory of Ibrahim (1993), while the category of speech act functions using the theory of Yule (2006). The data were obtained from the transcript of the presidential debate broadcast by the General Election Commission (KPU RI) through the official YouTube channel. This research focuses on three sessions, namely, the first, third, and fifth debates involving the three presidential candidates. The analysis shows that there is a variety of categories of forms and functions of illocutionary speech acts. Among these categories, commissive speech acts are most dominantly used, showing the candidates' efforts to build political commitment and shape their self-image before the public. The findings confirm the importance of the strategic function of speech acts in political communication and contribute to the study of pragmatics and political discourse in Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of swear words in the Balinese language used by the people in Buleleng Regency, North Bali. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study explores the forms, references, and functions of swear words commonly used in everyday social interactions. According to Anderson & Trudgill (1990), swear words refer to something taboo in certain cultures and are used to express strong emotions or attitudes. Robin (1992) adds that swear words are often used to convey anger or passion. Hughes (1998) classifies swear words based on their types, such as those related to sexuality, filth, and animal names. In Buleleng, words such as pirata (ancestor), naskleng (male genitalia), tai (excrement), cicing (dog), and lengeh (stupid) are commonly used, even by children, as part of a long-standing cultural heritage. The use of these words is not always negative but can also serve to attract attention, alleviate discomfort, provoke, create interpersonal identity, and function as both integrative and aggressive expressions. These findings suggest that swear words in Buleleng play a significant role in social communication and reflect the dynamics of local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to describe how digital media integration can increase the active participation of senior high school students in English learning in Bali Province. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach based on literature studies, with data sources in the form of relevant national and international journals in the last five years. The results of the study indicate that digital media such as interactive videos, mobile learning applications, and learning management platforms are able to create more interesting and collaborative learning spaces. Active student participation is still low due to limited teacher skills in designing digital learning and lack of support for school infrastructure and policies. Digital media integration becomes effective when combined with flipped classroom strategies, technology-based collaborative projects, and ongoing formative assessments. Thus, digital media has great potential to encourage student engagement cognitively, affectively, and behaviorally when integrated with pedagogical designs that are contextual and adaptive to the learning culture of students in Bali.

Abstract

This study aims to develop interactive videos as multimodal learning materials for teaching English to fourth-grade students in an inclusive classroom at SD N 2 Bengkala. Using the ADDIE instructional design model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), the research enhances reading interest and comprehension among deaf-mute and regular students through sign language integration, visual aids, and interactive exercises. Needs analysis revealed that inclusive students require visually engaging, adaptive materials. The videos align with the Merdeka Curriculum, featuring clear visuals, structured narration based on Pancasila values, and inclusive learning support. Instruments used include interview guides, researcher journals, development progress sheets, expert judgments, and practicality questionnaires. Expert validation showed high scores: 4.625 (content expert) and 4.75 (media expert), categorized as very good. Practicality tests scored 4.3 (students) and 4.75 (teachers), indicating high effectiveness. Results show that interactive videos improve accessibility, engagement, and reading comprehension for students with special needs. Challenges include limited technology access and the need for teacher training. The study concludes that multimodal learning significantly benefits inclusive education and recommends further research on scalability and long-term impact.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive digital flipbook integrating visual elements, sign language, animations, and structured reading materials to enhance reading comprehension and engagement among fourth-grade students in an inclusive classroom. Specifically, this research explores the types of English reading media needed by inclusive students, the design of the flipbook for inclusive classroom use, its content validity, and its practicality. The study employed the ADDIE development model, which includes the phases of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data collection involved various instruments such as a need analysis interview guide, teacher and student interview guides, a researcher journal, a product development progress sheet, expert judgment sheets, and practicality questionnaires. The need analysis revealed that inclusive students, particularly those who are deaf and mute, require reading media that is visually rich, interactive, and accessible, with support such as sign language and minimal text complexity. The flipbook was designed with English reading activities, sign language integration, interactive elements, optional audio narration and the final product integrates audio, visuals, animations, and interactive elements to create a comprehensive and inclusive learning experience. The Flipbook not only supports the development of English reading skills but also promotes Pancasila values and national identity. Validation from content experts yielded an average score of 4.875 for content expert judgment and 4.6 for media expert judgment, categorized as "Very Good," indicating that the content was relevant, accessible, and supportive of inclusive learning goals. Practicality tests showed an average score of 4.38 from students and 4.5 from teachers, indicating that the flipbook was easy to use, engaging, and effective in improving reading comprehension. These findings highlight the potential of multimodal flipbooks as a valuable tool in inclusive education to improve learning access and outcomes for students with special needs.
