Abstract

Central Connecticut State University stated in 2016, Indonesia was ranked 60th out of 61 countries regarding literacy. According to UNESCO literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, communicate, in various contexts. The National Alibaca Index said that most provinces in Indonesia have a low literacy index, including West Kalimantan, which is ranked 3rd out of 34 provinces. However, in Pontianak City, in the last 5 years, various literacy-based activities such as exhibitions, book fairs, discussions have been intensively held, as well as recorded more than 20 literacy communities in 2019. All literacy activities are organized independently and have no special space. Therefore, considering literacy needs and problems, the potential location for the design area is Jl. General Ahmad Yani, Pontianak City. However, there are problems where there is no standardization that can be used as a reference for designing a Literacy Center. Therefore, the design method used is the Design Thinking method, which, according to Kambel (2009), is a creative approach by gathering information and opportunities available to be synthesized into innovation and work ideas. Through this method, facilities such as exhibition rooms, classrooms, reading and collection, as well as spatial arrangements and forms are found to accommodate literacy activities in Pontianak.

Abstract

Sambas is an area that has a variety of cultures, so it needs to be preserved in order to stay awake. The design of the Sambas Culture Center is the main alternative as a container for Sambas culture to perform, exhibit and introduce culture so that its sustainability is maintained. It is hoped that the Sambas Culture Center design will attract the interest of the community, especially the younger generation, to care about their own culture. This design method uses the J.C Jones design method. All information is analyzed, then synthesized to produce certain concepts according to the initial idea and then evaluated. This design produces a physical form and a philosophy which is a source of pride for Sambas. In this design, according to the cultural data, Sambas is most likely to be preserved, it can be divided into 3, namely in the form of performances, exhibitions, and education. The Sambas Culture Center is a single building with a triangular roof which is equipped with typical Sambas ornaments and the symbol of the Sambas Sultanate at the top of the roof.

Abstract

Based on data from the Pontianak City Population and Civil Registry Office, the highest population growth rate after West Pontianak occurred in North Pontianak. The population growth is accompanied by an increasing number of cases of people with ASD. The handling of autism which has so far been carried out with the establishment of therapeutic sites such as the Technical Service Unit (UPT) Autis Center in West Pontianak, and Special School (SLB) with the closest distance ± 14 km. As for other therapeutic sites in general is a function of the residence that still has distraction for people with ASD so that it is considered not sufficient enough. The supporting facilities available are deemed not fulfilling the needs of ASD in Pontianak, so there are still many cases of ASD sufferers who find it difficult to get expert treatment. For this reason, supporting facilities need to be held that can accommodate therapeutic activities in accordance with the character of persons with ASD.To design buildings that maximize the available environmental space and atmosphere program according to the type of needs and activities that are accommodated, the Healing Environment approach was chosen as the design solution for the Autis Center building. The Healing Environment approach is used to optimize the process of therapy, counseling, and education with an environment that can affect health through sensory and psychological patients with ASD.

Abstract

The issue of low literacy culture and reading interest in Pontianak City can be overcome by introducing children a culture of literacy and reading interest from an early age. Provision of special library facilities for children that can accommodate children's reading and learning activities in accordance with their characters and needs is needed to improve literacy culture and reading needs of children.  However, until now children’s library has not been available in Pontianak. Children's library is a library that is devoted to accommodating children's learning activities that are adjusted again to meet the special needs of children The activities in the children's library are educative learning and play activities and the provision of children's services as supporting activities. The design of the Pontianak City Children's Library is located on Ahmad Yani street. The design concepts are processed with colors and shapes on the building facade, the provision of a natural environment in the form of a garden and inner courtyard as well as the concept of indoor layout using an open plan system. This design process aims to create a children's library that expresses a conducive, imaginative and creative atmosphere that is appropriate to the characteristics of the child.

Abstract

Local residents of West Borneo have expertise in producing variety of traditional crafts, one of which is woven fabrics, which is no less competitive with other regions. But there are several problems regarding the lack of facilities and infrastructure, such as less productive weaving processes, exhibitions that are held irregularly, difficulty of marketing products and no place for discussion. Therefore, the need of a place to product, exhibit, and market the products of West Borneo woven fabrics called "Center of West Borneo Weaving Craft Gallery in Pontianak" is essential. The design process starts from the analysis of functions which are divided into 3 groups, such as the main function group is commercial function, the extension function group is to produce recreation, education and performance function, while the other support function group is to produce management and service functions. The design applies theme of contemporary architecture as an approach that will support the creation of spaces that have harmonization, interactive, innovative and iconic concepts. The appeal of the idea design building shape is the philosophy of the analogy from winding’s tool which is divided into three parts and produces the main building, workshop building and multipurpose building. The number of floors for each building is almost the same which is two floors, except for the multipurpose building, which is one floor. The line movement from height of the building mass illustrates the existence of sustainability by creating an environment that represents aesthetic value and the harmonization of local culture to modernization.

Abstract

Reported by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2019 regarding the literacy culture of each region, West Kalimantan is listed as the third lowest province in literacy culture or reading interest, the Pontianak City Government has provided places for the public to develop reading interest in the Pontianak City Library, however The Pontianak City Library as the parent of literacy media in Pontianak City has problems in terms of architecture such as inaccurate spatial programs, inadequate spatial size, and the formation of a library that is less representative. Several steps are used in the new library design starting from ideas, data, analysis, synthesis of the initial design to design development, the focus of library design is on programming a space where one of the commercial rooms and a separate room, also in library collections requires special treatment so that processing The collection provides space in the manager building by bridges between buildings for manager access. The new library design approach is adapted to current times by utilizing the latest technology related to libraries such as automatic lending and book creation tools, the library formation is also designed more iconically, on the main building facade of the library which adapts from the tanjak formation and applies secondary skin formations in the form of motifs, gill patterns typical of Pontianak City.

Abstract

Co-working is a working style that involves creative activities in a collaborative working environment and allows anyone to work, share, socialize, and discuss even if they are not in the same organization or company. The existence of co-working spaces in Pontianak City is arguably still rare, the facilities and atmosphere presented are not like co-working spaces in big cities in Indonesia and abroad. Apart from accommodating start-ups, co-working spaces in Pontianak City also need to accommodate communities in fields related to co-working space users. The provision of galleries can be a place to bring the work of users and the community to life as well as to support collaboration. The application of the concept of space that can stimulate unser behavior is expected to solve common workiplace problems.Recently, the 'creative industry' has been talked about and echoed a lot. There are four very potential subsectors, namely visual communication design, music, video animation, and architecture, most of which are young people. Today's young people tend to want to work according to their wishes without any pressure from anyone. Freelancers and young entrepreneurs are part of creative industry players who are just starting / pioneering their careers and most of them are young people.
