Abstract

Background: Calcified tendinitis is a disease characterized by calcification of multifocal cells mediated byliving tissue. Calcified tendinitis may occur due to the collection of calcium in the supraspinatus tendon pouchor may be spread between rotator cuff muscle fibers and bursa, it may not cause pain or may cause mild painor discomfort. The aim is to determine the correlation of calcium deposit size to the pain intensity in patientswith calcified tendinitis.Methods: Methods in this study was a cross-sectional study, twenty subjects, aged 50-70 years old, diagnosedwith calcified tendinitis rotator cuff through musculoskeletal ultrasonography examination.Results: No significant correlations were found between calcium deposit size and pain intensity using VAS,r=0.238, p=0.312.Conclusion : The size of the calcium deposit was not correlated with the pain intensity in rotator cuff calcifiedtendinitis patients. But further research is needed whether the location and form of calcium deposits affect thepain intensity in calcified tendinitis rotator cuff patients.Keywords: calcified tendinitis; calcium deposit size; pain intensity.

Abstract

Introduction : Cerebral Palsy (CP) is the most frequent cause of disability in children, CP has high risk to havelower quality of life (QoL) . There were several factors may have a relationship with quality of life (QoL) ofchildren with CP. The aim is to determine the correlation of QOL of patients with Cerebral Palsy.Methods : this study was a cross-sectional study, 60 subjects, children with CP aged 2–12 y.o divided into threegroups depend on age;2–4, 5–7, and 6–12 years old. The subjects’ QoL was measured using Pediatric ScaleQuality of Life (PedsQoL)Results: Study of 60 children with CP consisted 38 (63,3%) of male, were divided in three groups of age,respectively; 2-4 y.o; 12(20%), 5-7 y.o; 13 (21,7%), 8-12 y.o; 13(21,7%). Father’s and mother’s education levelwere primary school, junior, and senior high school respectively; 18(30%) and 18(30%), 9(15%) and 22(37%),33(55%) and 20 (33%). Frequency of therapy were less than 4 times/week was 31(51,7%), and 4 times/weekwas 29 (28,3%). There were a strong positive correlation between father’s and mother’s education level withPedsQoL; (r=0,67;p=0,00) and (r=0,70;p=0,00) , as well as between the frequency of therapy with PedsQoL;(r=0,69;p=0,00).Conclusion: Higher mother’s and father’s education level have correlation with higher PedsQoL,Keyword: cerebral palsy, pediatric quality of life, parent’s education level, frequency of therapy

Abstract

Background: The number of elderly is increasing, estimated by the year of 2020 reach 28,800,000 (11.34%) ofthe total population. One of the common problems of the elderly is dependence on daily activity function andcognitive function. There is no data about the relationship between cognitive function with independence indaily activity in rthe nursing home. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between cognitivefunction with the level of independence on daily activity in the elderly who live in a nursing home.Methods: Study design was analytical observation by the cross-sectional study. The instruments that used inthis study was the Mini Mental Status Evaluation (MMSE) questionnaire, to measure the cognitive function,Katz index questionnaire to measure the level of independency. analyzed by Spearman correlation test.Results: The subjects were 107 elderly, the mean age was 69.7±8.7. MMSE score were 0-17 (severe), 18-23(moderate), and 24-30 (Normal), respectively were; 62 (57.9%) ,26 (24.3%),19 (17.8%). Katz Index score were02 (severe dependency), 3-5 (moderate dependency), and 6 (independence), respectively were; 8 (7,5%), 24(22,4%), 70 (70,1%). There is the positive relationship between cognitive function and the level of independencein elderly (p=0.000, r = 0.335).Conclusion: The higher cognitive function correlates with the higher independence level of elderly in nurseryhome.Keywords: cognitive function, independence level, elderly, nursery home

Abstract

BACKGROUND : Health problem that caused by higher BMI have grown broadly. Musculoskeletaldisorders due to higher BMI will cause an excessive burden on the lumbosacral joints. .Moreover, excess waistcircumference can also lead to malformation of lumbal curvature.Purpose: This study aims to determine the relationship between higher Body Mass Index (BMI) and excesswaist circumference with the higher curvature in young adult.Method: This study used observational study with cross-sectional design involving 88 students whoperformed measurement of body weight, height, and waist circumfrences, also lumbar curve examination. Themeasurement of waist circumference was done by circling the flexible tape on waist. For the measurement ofthe lumbar curve,each respondent is measured by a flexible ruler.Results: chi square test obtained p = 0,000 in high BMI with the increasing of lumbar curve and p = 0,000 inexcess waist circumference with the increasing of lumbar curve. So, there is a correlation between higher BMIand excess waist circumference with the increase of lumbar curve in the young adults.Conclusions: In this study showed that higher BMI and excess waist circumference have correlation with theincrease of lumbar curve in the students.Keywords: body mass index, waist circumference, tape measure, hyperlordosis, flexible ruler.

Abstract

Background: Scoliosis is a deformity of spine that has excessive lateral curve. The deformity could becaused by postural adaptation to an imbalance of local trunk muscles or by another risk factors. There are tworisk factors, that are obesity and physical activity, which have not been studied in Indonesia yet about theircorrelation with scoliosis The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between body mass index andphysical activity with scoliosis in young adults.Method: Study design was cross sectional. The subjects were High School students in Depok, recruited byconsecutive non-random sampling. The body mass index (BMI) was measured by body weight (Kg)/bodyheight (m2). The intensity of physical activity measured subjectively by International Physical ActivityQuestionnaires (IPAQ). Detection of postural scoliosis was by inspection and palpation and the deviationmeasured by scoliometer. The data were presence in univariate and bivariate, analyzed by the Pearsen Chisquare.Results: This study conducted in 165 subjects, the mean of age was 16-17 years old. There was no correlationbetween BMI and scoliosis (p=0,11). However the higher intensity of physical activity has correlated with thelower frequency of scoliosis (p=0.00).Conclusions: The lower intensity of physical activity increase the frequency of the postural scoliosis, in theother hand there was no correlation between BMI and scoliosis in young adults.Keywords : Scoliosis, Obesity, Physical activity

Abstract

Background.:The purpose of this case report is to present the benefit of additional home based inteventionprogram given in cardiac rehabilitation phase II of a 50 year old male vetenarian post coronary artery bypassgraft surgery.Methods: A functional approach with the aim of maximising the potency of return to work was adopted. Homeprograms given in this patient is an additional prescribing of overground walking exercise alongside withsupervised exercise with treadmill.Results: Due to his role, he should handle 14 farm. His work required him to move arround in 500 meters eachfarm and he made significant progress from MET 3.2 to 6.29 within 6 weeks and able return to work 4 weeksafter surgery.Conclusion:This finding indicate that additional home based programs was an effective program to promotepatient’s return to work faster.Keywords: CABG, exercise, home program, return to work.

Abstract

Background : Obesity is a risk factor for knee osteoarthritis (OA). The major problem of OA are pain and decreased of knee muscle strength cause a decline of functional capacity, and lead to disability. Aim of this study is to describe the profile of obese patients with knee OA to prevent disability. Methods : A descriptive study was conducted from September 2016 - March 2017. Subjects were obese patients with knee OA, age ranging from 40-80 years with sedentary lifestyle, with Physical level (PAL)<1.4. Results : Most of the subjects have age>60 y.o(58.8%) anf were female (92.7%). The frequency of Obesity grade II (56.1%) and OA knee grade III (56.1%) were the most frequent. There were higher prevalence of comorbid factors on subjects with grade II of obesity i.e, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes mellitus (32 vs 27, 18 vs 5, 7 vs 2) respectively. THis study found 41 subjects has knee OA, consist grade II was 18 (43,9%), grade II was 23 (56,1%), Besides, there were higher prevalence of more severe knee OA on grade II than grade I of obesity subjects (29 vs 12).Conclusions : Higher grading of obesity has more prevalence of comorbid factors, as well as has more severe of knee OA Keyword : obesity, comorbid factors, knee osteo arthritis

Abstract

Objectives : To observe improvement of dynamic balance in stroke patients who get Ai chi exercise compare to stroke exercise in stroke patients with onset more than six months.Methods : 30 subjects who met the inclution criterias were divided into two groups, Ai chi and stroke mass exercise group. Each group got exercise three times a week for four weeks.A dynamic balance testwith the four square steps test was conducted before exercise program and at the end of the exercise.Results : FSST Ai Chi start 20.48 ± 10.86, FSST end 17.55± 12.24,( p.005), stroke gymnastic start 23.98±9.41, stroke gymnastic end 18.24 ± 8.45 (p.002). In the initial test for all subjects FSST results obtained mean 28.72± 37.25 seconds and the final test of 24.02 ± 35.16 seconds FFT 29 (.443),FTT end 29(.957)Conclusions : Ai chi and stroke exercise training improved dynamic balance of stroke patients with onset more than six months, and statistically there is no different balance dynamic improvement for bothexercise.Keywords : Stroke, Dynamic balance, The four square steps test, Stroke exercise (senam stroke), Ai chi.

Abstract

Objectives : To compare the effect of both wrist splint and wrist-­metacarpophalangeal splint at night using Symptom Severity Scale (SSS) and Functional Status Scale (FSS) and to know the validity andreliability of Indonesian version of SSS dan FSS.Methods : This study enrolled 19 subjects in each of the two groups that were given neutral wrist splint and exercise in one group (group A) and neutral wrist-­metacarpophalangeal splint and exercise in theother group (group B).Results : Indonesian version of SSS and FSS have been proven valid with rs lowest = 0.360 and highest 0.810(>0.3) and relable with α SSS=0.762 dan FSS=0.781 (>0.7). There were significant improvement score of SSS and FSS in each group with p value <0.001. There were greater functional improvement in group treated with wrist-­metacarpophalangeal splint (group B) with p value = 0.036 (p<0.05) Conclusions: There was improvement of SSS and FSS in both groups of study with greater improvement of in wrist-­hand splint group.Keywords: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, wrist splint, wrist-­hand splint,,nerve and tendon gliding, SSS, FSS.

Abstract

Objectives: Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most physical disabling disease in children. Gross motor capacity in CP usually measured and evaluated by Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM), a standardizedobservational instrument to evaluate gross motor function. Studies showed GMFM reliable, valid, and responsive to change of CP gross motor function. This research aims to examine validity and reliabilityof GMFM translated into Indonesian.Methods: Cross sectional study with consecutive sampling of CP children aged 2-­15 years came to pediatric rehabilitation clinic at RSCM Medical Rehabilitation Department or YPAC Jakarta. Subjects classified by age, type, anatomical distribution, and severity.Gross motor function evaluated with 88 GMFM items translated into Indonesia. Inter-­rater evaluated gross motor function through video records. Criterion validity tested by correlation coefficient, construct validity tested by comparing GMFM item with dimension total scores and GMFM total score with corrected Spearman correlation. Inter-­rater reliability tested by unpaired T-­test, internal consistency by alpha Cronbach.Results: Thirty one CP children with mean age 7 years 11 months, mean GMFM score 58.40 (SD=49.09).No significant difference of all GMFM dimensions; almost all GMFM items obtained from inter-rater evaluation. Good internal consistency (alpha Cronbach 0.884) and good criterion validity of all dimensions;; inter-­item and total correlations good to strong (r=0.523-­0.859).Conclusion: GMFM Indonesian has good to strong criterion validity. Construct validity of all dimensions was quite good. Internal consistency was good. No significant difference between inter-raters showed GMFM inter-­rater reliability good enough.Keywords: Cerebral palsy, gross motor function, gross motor function measure, validity, reliability.
