Abstract

Purpose of the Study: This study aims to investigate teachers’ perceptions of the application of the Problem-Based Learning model and the Scaffolding approach in supporting independent learning at Junior high school 1 Muaro Jambi. Understanding teacher responses is critical to optimizing instructional strategies aligned with the goals of the independent learning. Methodology: A descriptive quantitative research design was employed. The population consisted of all teachers at Junior high school 1 Muaro Jambi, with a sample of 19 respondents selected through a random sampling technique. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistical methods to interpret the level of teacher response to both learning models. Main Findings: The results show that teachers expressed a positive response, with an average approval rating of 79.8% towards the implementation of both the Problem-Based Learning and Scaffolding models in promoting independent learning. Teachers acknowledged that these models enhanced student engagement, critical thinking skills, and autonomy in the learning process, although some highlighted the need for further training and resource support to maximize implementation. Novelty/Originality of this Study: This research offers a novelty contribution by providing empirical insights into teacher perceptions of combining PBL and Scaffolding approaches specifically within the framework of independent learning initiatives. Unlike previous studies that often focus solely on student outcomes, this study emphasizes the teacher’s role as a mediator in implementing innovative pedagogical models. The findings serve as a foundation for developing targeted professional development programs that empower teachers to foster more autonomous and student-centered classrooms.

Abstract

Purpose of the Study: Understanding implicatures in TOEFL Short Dialogues is difficult. It is essential to develop web-based media to boost implicature understanding. This current study aimed at testing the implicature inference-making ability of English teachers, identifying the factors that affect listening difficulties and developing web-mediated audio-visual books for the TOEFL. Methodology: This is a three-phase R & D model: 1) ‘Research Phase’ (Testing the English teachers listening ability; Examining factors affecting implicatures understanding; and Profiling the English teachers listening abilities); 2) ‘Development Phase’ (Constructing the test instrument; Formulating Learning Objectives; Selecting Audio-visual materials, Designing the web-mediated audio-visual book; Validating and revising the book) and ‘Production Phase’ (Dissemination and Mass Production). Main Finding: The products of the ‘Research phase’: 1) Listening ability, 2) Factors affecting listening, 3) Profile of the English teachers’ pragmatic ability. There are five primary causes of difficulty, ‘Speech Rate Delivery,’ ‘Voice,’ ‘Sentence Complexity,’ ‘Mishearing,’ and ‘Colloquial.’ The product of the ‘Development Phase’ is a ‘Web-based audiovisual book for the TOEFL Short Dialogues.’ All lessons are aided with online links to audio and videos. Finally, the product of ‘Production Phase’ is a massed published book. Novelty/Originality of the Study: No single study has ever been reported that focused on developing a web-mediated audio-visual listening book to boost the understanding of implicatures in the TOEFL Short Dialogues.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research aims to determine the relationship between interest and learning outcomes in class X history subjects at senior high school 1 Sindue. Methodology: This type of research is quantitative research. The population in this study was class X students of senior high school 1 Sindue, totaling 140 people, while the sample was 35 people. Data collection techniques use observation techniques, questionnaires and test questions. The data analysis techniques used are descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. Main Findings: Product moment calculation results obtained a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.781 or 7.177%. To find out whether the value obtained through the correlation coefficient has meaning or not, hypothesis testing is carried out. Based on the t test, it is known that tcount is greater than t table or t count 7.177 > ttable 1.692, so the correlation that occurs has meaning ( rejected and accepted). So in this research, there is a relationship between interest and learning outcomes in class X history subjects at senior high school 1 Sindue. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research creates new knowledge by revealing the relationship between interest and learning outcomes in history subjects at senior high school 1 Sindue, contributing to the understanding of the factors that influence student academic achievement. This can provide readers with insight into the extent to which students' interests can influence their learning outcomes in history subjects.
