Abstract

Purpose of the Study: This study aims to analyze and prioritize security management approaches—preemptive, preventive, and repressive—to safeguard the Dieng Geothermal Power Plants, designated as a National Vital Object (Obvitnas), while simultaneously promoting sustainable tourism development in the Dieng area. Balancing national security requirements with community-based tourism initiatives presents a complex challenge that this study seeks to address. Methodology: A qualitative research method was employed, integrating the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to systematically prioritize security strategies. Data collection involved structured surveys and in-depth interviews with three key stakeholder groups: company management, security personnel, and community leaders. Triangulation was used to validate findings and ensure a comprehensive understanding of diverse stakeholder perspectives. Main Findings: The results reveal that the preemptive security approach is prioritized as the most critical strategy, emphasizing the importance of community involvement, partnership programs, and environmental initiatives to ensure the safety of the geothermal plant while fostering trust and collaboration with local communities. Repressive and preventive approaches, while still important, are ranked lower in effectiveness for achieving both security and tourism sustainability objectives. The study highlights that fostering proactive community engagement and ecological stewardship can serve as dual drivers of security and socio-economic development. Novelty/Originality of this Study: This research offers a novel integration of security management and sustainable tourism principles, proposing a community-centered security framework specifically adapted for Obvitnas like Dieng GPPs. It provides new insights into how national energy infrastructure can be protected without hindering, and even supporting, local tourism growth and community empowerment.

Abstract

Purpose of the Study: To explore early childhood experiences in PAUD and elementary school (SD) that contribute to children's initial awareness and understanding of careers in the context of school-based career guidance. Methodology: Qualitative approach, phenomenological design; tools: semi-structured interviews, direct observation, documentation; analysis method: Colaizzi; participants: two purposively selected children aged 4 and 9; software/tools: manual coding without specific software; data sources: children's verbal responses, behavior, and creative work. Main Findings: Children’s career ideals shaped by visual media, direct experience, and close environment; understanding of work remains basic but developing; schools introduce careers through role-play and visual aids; parents support awareness via play tools and discussion. Four main thematic findings emerged highlighting the importance of combined school-family efforts. Novelty/Originality of this Study: This study uniquely captures early career awareness from children’s perspectives using phenomenological analysis. It introduces fresh insights into how early education environments and families collaboratively shape initial career concepts, offering foundational input for developing contextualized, age-appropriate career guidance in elementary education.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: Insect visitors to oil palm flowers, an important component in the pollination process and ecosystem services, are evaluated for their diversity in this study. The research explores their potential as a resource for environment-based learning rooted in local contexts within smallholder plantations, aiming to raise awareness and support sustainable education practices in the community. Methodology: Insects were collected using sweep nets, yellow pan traps, and direct observation. Identification was conducted using a Nikon SMZ445 stereo microscope and reference to entomological keys. Data analysis was carried out descriptively, focusing on species composition and abundance. An e-pocket book was developed as a learning resource. Main Findings: The results showed a total of 50 morphospecies of insect visitors on both male and female oil palm flowers. The number of insect species visiting male flowers was higher, consisting of 38 morphospecies belonging to 21 families and 10 orders. The results of the study were developed into a local wisdom-based pocket book focused on the diversity of insect visitors to oil palm flowers in smallholder plantations. The learning resource was validated by content experts, design experts, media experts, and students, with an average score of 81.7%, indicating it is highly suitable for use in environment-based education. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study highlights insect diversity in smallholder oil palm plantations, which is rarely documented. It also links ecological data with educational applications, providing a model for utilizing local biodiversity as a teaching resource in environmental and biology education.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to design, assess the feasibility, and evaluate the effectiveness of Smart Apps Creator Warak Ngendhog as a digital learning medium to enhance critical thinking and poetry comprehension among Grade IV students at Elementary School Kalibanteng Kidul 01. Methodology: Insects The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Borg & Gall development model, completed up to the eighth stage. Participants included 28 Grade IV students. Data collection involved feasibility assessments by experts, teacher and student response questionnaires, normality testing, t-tests, and N-Gain analysis. Main Findings: The Smart Apps Creator Warak Ngendhog media was successfully developed to address learning needs and promote both cognitive and literary skills. Feasibility ratings were highly positive, with scores of 96% from media experts and 90% from content experts. Statistical analysis confirmed its effectiveness, with t-test results showing Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 (< 0.05). Novelty/Originality of this study: This research introduces an innovative integration of local cultural heritage—Warak Ngendhog poetry—into a modern, interactive digital application developed with Smart Apps Creator. Unlike conventional poetry teaching methods, the media adopts the SAVI (Somatic, Auditory, Visual, Intellectual) learning model, tailored to students’ developmental levels, and incorporates HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills)-based evaluation questions. This dual emphasis on cultural literacy and 21st-century learning skills positions the media as both a preservation tool for local traditions and a catalyst for higher-order cognitive development.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to describe the design, feasibility, and effectiveness of an upright writing big book media developed to enhance the writing skills of second-grade students. The big book presents narrative texts integrating local wisdom, specifically highlighting the Pagerwunung Nature Reserve, to foster both literacy and cultural appreciation. Methodology: Employing the Research and Development (R&D) method with the Borg and Gall model, the study was conducted up to the eighth stage, focusing on feasibility and effectiveness testing due to time and cost constraints. The Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model was embedded into the media to strengthen collaborative reading and structured writing activities. Main Findings: The big book media design received a feasibility score of 90% from media experts and 93% from material experts, both categorized as “very feasible.” Effectiveness testing showed a significant improvement in students’ upright writing skills, supported by their increased engagement and comprehension of narrative structure. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research introduces a dual innovation: (1) integrating upright writing instruction with localized narrative content rooted in the Pagerwunung Nature Reserve, enabling students to visualize and contextualize learning through familiar cultural and environmental references; and (2) embedding the CIRC learning model into big book media, fostering cooperative literacy development while enhancing writing accuracy and fluency. By combining cultural literacy with technical writing skills, this approach not only supports academic achievement but also strengthens students’ sense of place and environmental stewardship, offering a replicable model for culturally responsive literacy instruction.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to present the findings from the Bongal Site as an essential learning resource for the History subject in Senior High Schools, particularly in exploring the dynamics of cultural interaction and the spread of religion in the Indonesian archipelago during ancient times. Methodology: This research employs a qualitative methodology, integrating historical and archaeological approaches. The historical approach is used to reconstruct the process of Christianity’s arrival on the west coast of Sumatra. At the same time, archaeological data are supported by an extensive literature review and field observations. Main Findings: The findings reveal that the spread of early Christianity to Sumatra, though still debated among historians, is evidenced by written sources indicating the presence of the Nestorian Church in the Fansur (Barus) region. Archaeological excavations at the Bongal Site uncovered various artifacts such as rings engraved with crosses, Roman beads, carved stones with Christian symbols, and Byzantine liturgical spoons that support this narrative. Novelty/Originality of this study: The originality of this study lies in the identification and comparative analysis of artifacts that bear significant resemblance to early Roman and Byzantine Christian objects. These findings not only offer new insights into the early presence of Christianity on Sumatra’s west coast but also support the use of the Bongal Site as a contextual and meaningful historical learning resource in secondary education.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to develop, assess the feasibility, and evaluate the effectiveness of the Flipbook-Based Digital Comics to Improve Learning Outcomes and Attitudes of Grade IV Students. Methodology: The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the Borg & Gall development model up to the eighth stage. The subjects of this study were 28 Grade IV students at Elementary School Tambangan 01 Semarang. Data analysis techniques included media feasibility assessments, teacher and student response analyses, normality testing, t-tests, and N-Gain evaluation. Main Findings: Based on the results obtained, flipbook-based digital comic media can be used in learning activities. Flipbook-based digital comic learning media is effectively used in learning grade IV material on attitudes and behavior that reflect the practice of Pancasila in social life. The results of the validation assessment of media experts and material experts obtained a percentage of 83.33% and 100% which means it has a very feasible classification level. The student pretest score was 55% and the posttest score was 86.13%. The percentage of student learning outcomes classically increased by 31.13%. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this research lies in the media Flipbook-Based Digital Comics to Improve Learning Outcomes and Attitudes. In addition, the learning model has been adjusted to students’ abilities and uses HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) based evaluation questions.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The digital era demands Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers not only master religious content but also effectively integrate technology to enhance learning quality. This study aims to explore how technology is incorporated into PAI teacher competency development programs under the North Sumatra Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and to identify associated challenges and opportunities. Methodology: Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis involving teachers, trainers, and program officials. Thematic analysis was applied to capture experiences and patterns in technology use during training. Main Findings: Findings indicate that technology integration has positively impacted teachers’ pedagogical and digital competencies. Tools like Google Classroom and LMS platforms are increasingly used. However, challenges remain, such as limited infrastructure, uneven digital literacy, and overly theoretical training modules. Novelty/Originality of this study: The COVID-19 pandemic served as a catalyst for digital adaptation. Yet, sustainable improvement requires more practical, needs-based training strategies, infrastructure support, and collaboration among stakeholders. A localized integration model is proposed to align digital transformation with the contextual needs of Islamic education.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to: (1) describe the design of a flipbook media for teaching explanatory text comprehension; (2) present the results of the flipbook's feasibility testing; and (3) analyze its effectiveness in enhancing students’ understanding of explanatory texts. Methodology: The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the Borg & Gall model, encompassing the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The study was conducted at Elementary School Nongkosawit 01, Semarang City, involving both teacher and student participants. Main Findings: The developed flipbook was designed to be visually appealing, pedagogically relevant, and responsive to the needs of teachers and students. Feasibility testing yielded very high validation scores 93.00% from media experts and 95.00% from material experts placing it in the “very feasible” category. Teacher and student responses indicated that the flipbook significantly supported engagement and comprehension. Effectiveness trials showed improvement rates of 84.16% in small-scale and 81.26% in large-scale trials, confirming its suitability for Grade V explanatory text learning. Novelty/Originality of this study: The innovation of this study lies in the integration of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with locally relevant recycled waste content into a digital flipbook format. This combination not only strengthens students’ mastery of explanatory texts but also embeds values of responsibility, environmental care, and sustainability. By contextualizing literacy learning with environmental education, the flipbook serves as both an academic and character-building tool. This model provides a replicable, culturally grounded, and eco-conscious approach to literacy instruction in primary schools.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The aim of this study is to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a learning media called MITEDA (Mitigation of Earthquake Damage), which is based on the STEM approach and computational thinking, to support the teaching of wave physics. The study focuses on both the development process of the media and its impact on improving students’ computational thinking skills through contextual problem-solving using earthquake simulation and sensor-based data. Methodology: The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model. Tools used include Arduino Uno, SW-420 vibration sensor, LCD 16x2, and a buzzer. Software includes Arduino IDE and Proteus. Data collection used expert validation sheets, student questionnaires, observations, and computational thinking tests. Main Findings: The MITEDA learning media, comprising a digital seismograph kit and instructional module, was rated “highly feasible” by experts (Aiken’s V ≥ 0.80) and received positive student feedback for usability and engagement. Statistical analysis showed a significant improvement in computational thinking skills for the experimental group (N-Gain = 0.84) compared to the control group (N-Gain = 0.56), t(69) = 8.875, p < 0.001, d = 2.716, with the highest gains in abstraction and consistent high-level algorithmic performance. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study presents an innovative learning media, MITEDA, integrating STEM and computational thinking through earthquake simulation using Arduino-based sensors. It advances wave physics learning by providing real-time vibration data and contextual problem-solving, enhancing students’ analytical skills.
