Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Islamic banks has a significant impact on developing customer awareness and promoting Islamic banking products and services. Islamic banks of Bangladesh are highly motivated to practice Islamic CSR as Islam encourages to ensure welfare for everyone. This study got special attention on Philanthropic CSR. Two main objectives guided the study: to analyse the Philanthropic CSR activities of Islamic banks of Bangladesh, and to propose a framework of ICSR in the Islamic banking industry. A qualitative in-depth interview was conducted with sixteen informants, including eight Heads of public relations and eight members of the Shariah secretariat of eight full-fledged Islamic banks of Bangladesh. The informants were selected using the purposive sampling. The data were collected using a semi-structured interview questionnaire. Following the six stages of thematic analysis, the researchers analyzed the data. The results show that these banks emphasize ICSR activities, particularly, philanthropic CSR by Islamic, humanitarian, educational, and Ummah building services to develop and maintain a strong relationship with their internal and external publics. The study proposes a framework for ICSR. The application of the proposed ICSR framework can contribute to CSR and Islamic banking academia, industry, and Muslim Ummah.

Abstract

da'wah, arguing that mastery of both competencies is essential for effective, ethical, and impactful religious communication. This research is a literature study employing a qualitative approach through conceptual analysis, drawing exclusively on primary and secondary written sources, including classical rhetorical texts, Qur'anic foundations, and peer-reviewed journal articles, rather than on field observation or empirical data collection. This methodological position was deliberately chosen to enable theoretical synthesis across classical rhetoric, Islamic communication studies, and digital media scholarship. The study integrates classical rhetorical principles, logos, ethos, and pathos with the Islamic communicative foundations of hikmah, mau'izhah hasanah, and jidal bil-latif as articulated in Surah An-Nahl (16:125). The central argument is that rhetoric functions as "strategy," governing message design, structure, and ethical grounding, while public speaking operates as "execution," the practical delivery of that message before an audience. Findings demonstrate that their integration is essential for producing da'i who are intellectually persuasive, emotionally resonant, and socially transformative. Illustrative case analyses of four prominent Indonesian preachers, Ustadz Abdul Somad, Ustadz Adi Hidayat, Gus Baha, and Ustadz Hanan Attaki, reveal how differentiated rhetorical styles operate across scholarly, emotional, and digital registers. The study further highlights that in the digital era, challenges such as shortened attention spans and information overload demand rhetorical recalibration toward concise, multimodal, and contextually sensitive messaging. The findings affirm that integrating rhetoric and public speaking within da'wah training is urgently needed to sustain the relevance and transformative impact of Islamic communication in contemporary society.

Abstract

This study analyzes Islamic communication from a critical perspective by examining the relationships among power, discourse production, and the construction of religious authority in the digital era. This study employs a qualitative approach, integrating Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) with a sociological perspective on communication. The empirical data consist of 12 digital da’wah content items collected from YouTube, Instagram, and Spotify podcasts published between January and March 2025. Data were collected through document analysis of verbal transcripts, captions, audience interactions, and non-participant observation of communication practices in digital religious spaces. Data analysis follows Fairclough’s three-dimensional framework, including textual analysis, discursive practice, and social practice. The findings reveal that Islamic communication in digital spaces functions not merely as a medium for transmitting religious messages, but also as a contested arena where actors negotiate symbolic power and construct religious legitimacy. The study further demonstrates that digital media reconfigures religious authority from institution-based legitimacy to audience-driven, algorithmically mediated authority. Theoretically, this study contributes to Islamic communication studies by integrating discourse, power, and digital religious authority into a critical analytical framework.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the style of da’wah discourse on Instagram within the Shift Pemuda Hijrah Bandung community, specifically through the official account @pemuda_hijrah_org. The research background stems from the shift from traditional da’wah to digital da’wah, which better suits the characteristics of urban youth. The method used is a qualitative, interpretive approach grounded in netnography, involving intensive digital observation of the account’s activities in March and April 2026, with the Ramadan period serving as the primary unit of analysis. The research findings indicate that the language style of da’wah on Instagram is characterized by the use of popular vocabulary, slang, and persuasive-horizontal narratives that foster a sense of closeness with the audience. Additionally, integrating text with aesthetically pleasing visuals demonstrates efforts to strengthen engagement and foster a new, more inclusive religious identity relevant to digital popular culture. The study’s conclusion affirms that the success of the Shift Pemuda Hijrah community’s da’wah lies in the precision of its communicative accommodation strategies, which connect theological messages with the psychological and social needs of urban youth, thereby positioning da’wah within a contemporary creative lifestyle.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the form of intercultural communication that occurs through the digital work "Namoy Budaya" in its representation of Jamaican culture in the digital space. As a musician and DJ who blends elements of electronic music with Jamaican cultural values such as freedom, peace, and solidarity, 'Namoy Budaya" is a true example of cross-cultural communication practices in the era of digital globalization. The approach of this research is qualitative descriptive with in-depth interview techniques on "Namoy Budaya" as cultural communicators and some of their active followers as message recipients. Analysis was also carried out on digital content on social media to understand communication strategies and forms of cultural adaptation displayed. The results of the study indicate that “Namoy Budaya” employs three main intercultural communication strategies in the digital environment: the use of reggae music as a medium of cultural adaptation, visual symbols inspired by Jamaican identity combined with local Indonesian elements, and interactive digital narratives through social media engagement. The study also found that followers interpret “Namoy Budaya” as a representation of cultural hybridity, freedom of expression, and an alternative medium for global cultural education. These findings demonstrate how digital media facilitates the negotiation of global and local cultural identities in contemporary intercultural communication. This research confirms that intercultural communication in the digital space is not just an exchange of symbols, but also a creative process of building understanding and harmony between global and local cultures.
