Abstract

Black Orchid is an orchid endemic in West Kalimantan is currently declining presence, so the ex-situ conservation effort are needed. On of the efforts is to plant propagation by tissue culture methods. This research aimed to get the optimal concentration of Benzil Amino Purine (BAP) for the formation of a black orchid shoot multiplication by tissue culture methods. The research was conducted at the Biotechnology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tanjungpura.  This study used a completely randomized design (CRD). BAP treatment consists of 6 levels of concentration namely 0 ppm, 0,25 ppm, 0,5 ppm, 1 ppm, 1,25 ppm and 1,5 ppm. The observed variables included the time appeared shoots, number of shoots, and the number of leaves. The results showed that the concentrations of BAP on MS medium significantly affected the entire observation variables. The best concentration for a time appeared shoots and number of shoots was 1,5 and 1,25 ppm BAP, while the best concentration of BAP for number of leaves is 1,5 ppm. Abstract

Mangrove forest ecosystem is capable to fulfill almost all human necessities by tangible and intangible value contribution it has. The purpose of this research is to find out the Direct Use Value (DUV) on mangrove forest in Sungai Mas, Sebangkau District, Sambas Regency which is held on ± 4 (four) weeks effectively. The method used in this census (data collecting), with the number of respondents 188 head households. Valuation of the varieties used by people in Sungai Mas use market price method for firewood, fruit and water product. The research showed total economical value of the mangrove forest on Sungai Mas valued Rp21.123.386.000.-/year contained of firewood Rp. 44.016.000.-/year, fruitsrp Rp. 4.100.000,-/year, scallop Rp. 3.610.800.000,-/year, crab Rp1.355.750.000-/year, prawn Rp. 11.655.000.000,-/year, and fish Rp. 4.453.720.000,-/year. The economical value of mangrove forest on Sungai Mas is really high. Therefore it is necessity to protect the mangrove forest such as reforestation either by government agencies or by the people awareness. So the current economical value remains exist and even gains to welfare the society. Also, the product from aquatic is also dominating. This shows that even without doing forest destruction people can still receive the economical benefit. Keywords : Sungai Mas Mangrove Forest, Total Economical Value, Use Value

Butterfly has an important function for indicator of the health of environment. The purpose of research is to identify the butterfly in DAS Mendalam region in Betung Kerihun-Danau Sentarum National Park. The location of research was in Mentibat river and Pari river. Methodology of research used exploration method which combined with transects method. Area of research consists of aquatic and terrestrial. The length of transect was 1 Km with observation area 5 m both on left and right side. Exploration the biodiversity of butterfly was conducted in the morning from 06.00-09.00 wib and in the afternoon from 15.00-17.00 wib. Result of the research showed that 22 species of butterfly was found, consist of 4 families and total individual was 298 butterflies. Abstract

Wood is a basic requirement in the industrial activity such as constructions and furniture. While timber production decreased so that required an efficient utilization of wood. The solution to overcome this problem is use of sago bark in the form of composite board. Plastic is a material consisting of artificial inorganic chemicals are quite harmful to the environment so it is necessary to increase the value of plastic. In the process of making composite board using compatibilizer to improve the bonding between the fibers. The study aims to determine the quality of the composite board made from sago bark and polypropylene plastic waste based on addition of compatibilizer. Percentage of compatibilizer used 0%, 2,5%, and 5% of the weight of the plastic. Composite board size was 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm with a target density of 0.7g/cm3 at compression 25 kg/cm2 with temperature 180ºC for 10 minutes. Evaluation the physical properties (density, moisture content, thickness swelling and water absorption ) and mechanical properties (modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture, internal bonding and strong hold the screws) was conducted according to standard JIS A 5908-2003. The result of research showed that the highest quality of composite board was achieved on the highest addition with percentage compatibilizer 5%. Keywords: BPO, compatibilizer, composite board, MAH, plastics polipropilena, sago bark.

Abstract

This research aims to count the number of individuals and the number of groups of proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus, Wurmb). Before determining the location of the research, first, field orientation was conducted. The transects were placed purposively as many as 6 transects at locations determined to be a place or habitat of proboscis monkey according to the results of orientation, and the implementation used the river survey method (JCM Sha, et al., 2008). The data collected were entered into the table and then the number of individuals and the number of population groups were counted. Prediction was made on density of individual/ha and density of group/ha. The results of data analysis showed that at a 95% confidence interval of individual density of proboscis monkey population lies between 0.50 to 2.82 individuals/ha, with a density of population groups lying between 0.09 to 0.26 group/Ha. For the 99% confidence interval of individual density of proboscis monkey population, it lies between -0.27 / ha to 3.59 individuals/ha, with a density of population of group lying between 0.03 to 0.32 group/Ha. Keyword: proboscis monkey, river survey, number of population, number of groups.
