Abstract

AbstractThis study is intended to focus on the concentration of natual citric acid and density including physical and mechanical properties and durability of particleboards towards C. curvignathus Holmgren. This research is lifted because research on the use of citric acid as an adhesive is relatively limited.The research’s material was taken from waste dreg of Sago and citric acid. The research was carried out in wood workshops, wood processing technology laboratories and forest product technology laboratories, Tanjungpura University Forestry Faculty along with laboratories PT Duta Pertiwi Nusantara. The factors which was used in this study was the concentration of 20% - 30% with a density of 0,6 g/cm3 and 0,7 g/cm3 , based on the weight of the airborne particle, the temperature of pressurization used 180ºC with pressures of 25 kg/cm2. Physical and mechanical properties were tested based on JIS A 5908-2003 type 8. Testing of soil termites was carried out by calculating the value of weight reduction and mortality of termiste after 21 days. In this study, The optimum conditions were particle board density 0,7 g/cm3 and concentration 20%, with qualities that can fulfill several standards of JIS A 5908-2003 type 8, with a density of 0,7 g/cm3 consentrations 30%, resulting in termite mortality values of 100% and loss16,92% of weight.Keywords : Citric acid, concentration, density, termite, sago.

Abstract

The research aims to evaluate the quality of biopellets made from different composition of the oilpalm trunk powder and Laban wood charcoal with different type of adhesive. The composition consist of 25% oilpalm powder : 75% Laban wood charcoal; 50% oilpalm powder: 50% Laban wood charcoal; 75% oilpalm powder : 25% Laban wood charcoal; 100% oilpalm powder respectively. The adhesives used are tapioca flour and sago flour. The research used completely factorial randomized design, which consists of eight combination treatment with 3 replications. The material was mixed manually and biopellets produced with meat mincer in home scale with size 2 cm long and diameter 0.4 cm.  Biopelet then dry in oven for 24 hour with temperature 600C-700C. The quality of biopelet was evaluate according to SNI 8021 : 2014. The result of research showed that the average values of water content of biopellets was range between 6.91% - 9.98%; the average values of ash content was range between 1.02% - 1.69%; the average values of volatile matter content was range between 38.36% - 71.93%; the average values of fixed carbon content was range between 26.45% - 59.97% and the average values of calor was range between 3719,67(cal/g) – 5944,33 (cal/g). The composition of oilpalm and Laban wood charcoal and type of adhesives was significantly affected the calor value of biopellets. Meanwhile the other values such as moisture content, ash content, volatile matter content and fixed carbon content was not significant. The quality of biopellets can fulfill the SNI 8021 : 2014 standard, except on ash content. The best biopellets was achieved on composition 25% oil palm trunk powder : 75% Laban wood charcoal with adhesive tapioca. Keywords : Biopellets, Laban wood, Oilpalm trunk, tapioca, sago

Abstract

The objective of research was to evaluation the effect of application of liquid smoke from Vitex pubescens Vahl wood to rubber wood to inhibit the subterranean termites Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren attack and to determine the level of concentration and optimum pyrolysis temperature of liquid smoke from Vitex pubescens Vahl wood to rubber wood to inhibit subterranean termites Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren attack. The parameter of research was retention of liquid smoke to wood, termite mortality and weight loss rubber wood. The results showed that the highest retention of liquid smoke found at a concentration of 15% with a pyrolysis temperature of 400oC i.e. 0.0245 g/cm3. Mortality of termites in concentration of liquid smoke 10% with a pyrolisis temperature of 400oC resulted the highest mortality, i.e. 100% while the lowest weight loss of rubber wood was achieve on concentration of liquid smoke 15% with a pyrolysis temperature of 450oC i.e. 18.69%. Abstract

The manufacture of particleboards from dregs of sago and natural adhesives of citric-sucrose acid has not been widely reported. The aim of this research to examine the physical and mechanical properties of particleboard from dregs of sago based on particle size and the ratio of citric-sucrose. The dregs of sago used is 8-10 mesh and 20-40 mesh. Natural adhesive is used 20% of the dry weight dregs of sago. The ratio of citric acid-sucrose used varies 0/100, 25/75, 50/50, 75/25, 100/0. The particleboard is made manually consisting of 3 layers (face, core, back) were manufactured in 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm, and the target of density was 0,7 g/cm3. The pressing at a temperature of 180oC for 15 minutes, and pressure of 20 kg/cm2. The physical and mechanical  properties of particleboard were tested in accordance to standard JIS A 5908-2003 Type 8. The results showed particleboard that physical properties meets the standards is density, moisture content, and thickness development. The particleboard dregs of sago with ratio citric acid-sucrose 25/75 was able to provide the best results to meet the standards of JIS A 5908-2003 Type 8 for density values of 0,7532 g/cm3, moisture content of 8,6725%, thickness of  development 8,0756%.Keywords: citric acid-sucrose , dregs of sago, particleboard, particle size

Abstract

This research is aimed to know the effect of material composition and concentration of adhesives to physical and mechanical properties particle board. The factors were used includes material composition and content of adhesives urea formaldehyde (UF) on particleboard. Factors material composition consist of three treatment those were 450 g, 540 g, 630 g and content of adhesives factor consist of three treatments is 12%, 14%, and 16%. Particleboard made measuring 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm, with compression heat at a temperature 140 C with a the pressure 27 kgf/cm2 for 10 minutes. The mean results of testing the physical and mechanical properties obtained moisture content (9.33% - 12.77%), density (0.44 g/cm3 - 0.54 g/cm3), development of a thick (27.83% - 47 , 95%), water absorption (118.20% - 211.89%), MOE (68.54 kg/cm2 - 539.19 kg/cm2), MOR (13.33 kg/cm2 - 28.35 kg / cm2), internal bonding strength (0.19 kg/cm2 - 0.35 kg/cm2) and a strong hold screws (6.40 kg - 12.02 kg). Results of the study stated particleboard the produced was affected by the amount of material composition and content of the adhesive used.The results of all test physical and mechanical properties that do not comply JIS A 5908 - 2003 except for water content and density of board the produced . Abstract

The objectives of the research were to analyze the effect of strand length difference, adhesive level and its interaction on physical and mechanical properties of wood rubber OSB board. As well as to analyze the length of the strand and the adhesive level that produces the physical and mechanical properties of the best rubber wood OSB board. The research was conducted at Wood Workshop Laboratory, Wood Processing Laboratory, Faculty of Forestry, University of Tanjungpura and Laboratory of PT. Duta Pertiwi Nusantara Pontianak. The materials used are rubber wood, phenol formaldehyde adhesive (PF) and liquid paraffin. The treatments in this study were strand length was 5 cm, 10 cm and 15 cm, and adhesive content was of 5%, 7%, 9%. OSB boards were made measuring 30 cm x 30 cm x 1cm with a target density of 0.7 gr / cm3. Forged hot with temperature of 160 ºC for 7 minutes. The results showed that all of the strand length and adhesive treatments resulted in OSB complying with JIS A 5908-2003 (Base Particleboard Type 24-10) standard, except for water content test in A3B2 treatment and MOE test on treatment A1B1, A1B2. Based on best OSB scoring calculation is rubber wood with strand length 15 cm with 9% adhesive level.Keywords: Adhesive Content, Oriented Strand Board, Quality, Strand Length

Abstract

This research was to aimed the quality of particle board made from sago waste on citric acid. Particle board made from sago waste from Ambawang Subdistrict, the Regency of Kubu Raya. The research was conducted at the Wood Workshop Laboratory, Wood Processing Laboratory, Faculty of Forestry and PT. Duta Pertiwi Nusantara. Particle size with 8 mesh – 10 mesh and Adhesive citric acid levels were 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. Mixing material is done manually. Particle board is made with size 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm with target density of 0,6 gr/cm2. specificpressure of 25 kg/cm2 and temperature of 1800 C for 15 minutes. Abstract

Wood is the most used basic material for daily life, such as material construction, furniture, appliances, and etcetera. This causes the increase of the necessity of wood in the other hand, the availability of wood are decrasing. On of the solutions for this problem is the particle-board from the agriculture waste which is sago. One of the sago parts which can be used is the sago bark. It contains more number of cellulose and lignin then dago dregs and it also contains bigger cellulose and lignin than woods, so it can be used as particle-board. The fibers used are 5 cm, 10 cm, and 15 cm. The citterate solution concentrate is 20% which was mixed with the particle-board. These particle mixtures were in an oven in 24 hours. The production of particle-board with the target of density 0,6 g/cm2 and forged in 1800 C within 15 minutes. The aim of this research is to find out the size of fibers for the particle-board. The best quality of particle board based on JIS 5908 standard is on the 10 cm fiber , with board mechanical characteristic  : the flexibility module 22801,8196 kgf/cm2, the fracture module 334,9006 kgf/cm2, and the screw holding strength 46,5448 kgf/cm2. The physical characteristic of water concentrate 10,6249 % and the water absorption 66,8314 %. The score of dense/thickness development and internal bonding did not quality JIS 5908 A (2008). In general, the result of the research showed that longer the size of fibers the better the quality would be produced. Keywords : fiber size, oven duration, particle-board, sago bark

Abstract

This research aim to determine of immersion types and the addition of layer materials on the physical and mechanical composite board and to determine the best treatment. Composite board made with size 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm with 0,7 gr/cm3 density target. Physical and mechanical testing based on JIS A 5908 – 2003 standard. This research using factorial experiments pattern on completely random design with 2 treatment factor, namely immersion factor which consist of two sub factor (hot water immersion and cold water immersion) and composite board layer factor which consist of 3 sub factor (without layer, finir layer and bamboo layer). Materials mixing doing manually with Polypropylena distribution is divided into 3 parts, each of face and back is 15 %, and core is 70 % from plastic weight. Hot press conducted on temperature 1800C with ± 25kgf/cm2 during 10 minutes. Research result showed that every composite board is according to JIS A 5908 – 2003 standard, except water content value is lower than standard. Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate the varios of NaOH immersion treatments and the density of optimal and the best composite board mechanic and physical. Factor of research were the varios of NaOH immersion treatments (control, 2 hour, 4 hour, 6 hour) and varios density ( 0,6 gr/cm3 and 0,7 gr/cm3). The composite board were mixed manually with weight both of polyprophylenes plastic and coir fibres to all of composite board comparison 50 : 50 after were reduced weight of bamboo slats. The composite boards were made with dimension 30 cm 30 cm x 1 cm, where the bamboos were made become face and back of board then both plastic and coir fibres were core board. The recycle polyprophylenes plastic distributed were devided by three parts, those were face layer 15 %, core layer 70 %, and back layer 15 % of plastics weight. The pressure was done with hot press temperature 180 oC for 20 minute with pessure 25 kg/cm. Results of research have showed that physical and mechanical properties oof composite board were increased with the addition of density composite board and reduced of NaOH immersion treatments. Composite board without NaOHs immersion with density 0,7 gr/cm3 is the best and optimum result of composite board. Key words : composite board, coconut fiber, recycled polyprophylene, bamboo layers
