Abstract

The forest is an area that is overgrown with thick trees and other plants. A collection of trees is conidered forest if it is able to create a microclimate and unique and different environmental conditions than other regions.  Customary forests are state forests that are within the territory of indigenous forest peoples. All forms of business and uses that use customary forest must certainly pay attention to the environment and  its conservation efforts. Species diversity is a measure that states the variation of plant species from a community that is influenced by the number of species and relative abudance of each species. The study aimed to determine the diversity of the tree level in the traditional forest of the Sahan instructors of Bengkayang Regency. The research method is  field survey using a striped line which is a combination of path and plot methods. The results showed that 93 species were classified as 38 families. The species composition is dominated by the type of Dryobalanops oblingifolia, Shorea leavis, Shorea parfifolia and Syzygium antisepticum. The type that has the highest INP value is Dryobalanops oblingifolia, Syzygium antisepticum, Shorea parfifolia, Shorea ovalis, Syzygium grande and Dryobalanops leavis. The dominance index has a value (0,12) which shows low dominance. The species diversity index has a value (1,61) belonging to the medium class. The species abudance index shows an almost even growth rate of trees which is indicated by the value (e) approaching  (1) which is 0,81.Keywords: community forest, diversity, forests.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the squirrel (Tupaiidae) species diversity in Hutan Lindung Gunung Semahung Palo'an Village Sengah Temila Landak District. Using line method, with length 500 m and width 100 m, the plots were taken  purposively where the Tupaiidae is found. Tupaiidae identification using Mammals Field Guide (Payne et al,.1985), and local people. There are 3 species of Tupaiidae found in Hutan Lindung Gunung Semahung Palo'an Village namely: Tupaia minor, T.splendidula, T.gracilis, and total of 190 individuals. In the lowland area,  there were 3 species of Tupaiidae were found (106 individuals), whereas in the hilly area 2 species were found (84 individuals), T.gracilis were not found in the hilly area. The Tupaiidae diversity in the area is low, showed by the diversity index below 1 (H=0,8950). Dominance index C=0,4383, means that more than one species of Tupaiidae are dominant in the area that is;T.minor and T.splendidula. Richness index D=1,5071. Evenness index is low (e=0.8146) means individuals of each species are not even, there are two dominant species (T.minor and T.splendidula), and the individuals of T.gracilis is low and only found in lowland area. Further observations are needed to obtain more comprehensive information about Tupaiidae. Keywords : Tupaiidae, species diversity, protection forest Mount Semahung

Abstract

Riparian vegetation is a natural resource that is easily distrubed due to stabilization by human’s hand in ordinary rivers or within the scope of conservation areas  such as botanical gardens. Riparian vegetation plays an important role in maintaining the ecosystem stability of river, where the endemic wild animals are and maintaining the quality of sorrounding water. The purpose of this research is to analyze the stucture and compositio of dominant kinds and species of tree vegetation in riparian based Sambas Botanical Garden, Sabung village, Sabuh Sambas district, West Kalimantan. The method used in this study is survey with the combination of plant lanes technique , the spaces between two rows pf plants, and a line method. Observation tracks are made and placed in front of the vegetation. The placement  of the observation line is purposely set to present the middle, upstream and downstream river areas on the river bank of ±105 Ha. To analyze the area, the observation line was made about 6 lanes, with the lenght of each path was adjusted to the tide level approaching the land based on the existing hydrological cycle map to obtain 6 lanes with different lenghts.  For each of these lines a 20m x 20 m observation plot was made for tree level observation, 10m x 10m for pole observation, 5m x 5m for observation of piles, and 2m x 2m for observation of plant seeding rates. The process of seeding vegetation structure in riparian botanical garden was found complete from seedling, sapling, and poles to trees. The composition of riparian forest vegetation species consist of  22 species of vegetation, 14 families, and 18 genera with diversity for each low growth rate of less than 1, with pattern of spreading concentration and not concerntrated in one particular species. Therefor, with the discovery of the Hibiscus tilliaceus species at all growth rates, this species can be regarded as an indicator of ecosystems as a riparian forest ecosystem in Sambas Botanical Garden.Keyword : Diversity, Ecological Function, Hibiscus tilliaceus, Riparian
