Abstract

Amphibians is one of all fauna constituent ecosystems and a part of biodiversity in aquatic habitat, terestrial and arboreal. The research aimed to determine diversity of amphibians species ordo Anura in the Gunung Semahung protected forest areas, Sengah Temila District, Landak Regency, West Borneo. This research has done on Februari 12th 2014 until Februari 30th 2014. The method used in this research is Visual Encounter Survey (VES) that combinated with track system by dividing three lines of aquatic habitats and three lines of terestrial habitats.  The number of species found were 18 species from 6 family with total of 357 individual. Data analysis showed species diversity index (H) the highest value on aquatic habitats 0,957 and the lowest on terestrial habitats 0,690. For evenness index (e), the highest value on aquatic habitats 0.835 and the lowest on terestrial habitats 0,76497. And for similarity index between the aquatic and terestrial habitats by S = 0.4% that means 40% both of amphibians species in both habitats are same and 60% are different. Species abundance showed that has the highest value is Meristogenys phaeomerus by 21%. the greatest chance encounter is Meristogenys phaeomerus  2.111 individuals per hour, this species the most lots of encounter on aquatic habitat. Most amphibians that were found more likely to sit and be quiet activities and there are some who speak out and there is also a mating activity that is Meristogenys phaemerus. Keywords: Amphibians, anura, species biversity, Semahung Mountain

Abstract

The wood with a long stretch increasingly scarce, so their use limited variety. Therefore it is necessary for splicing. Jointed wood has lower strength than wood intact, because of shift caused among other selection shape and the lack of proper connecting equipment in a construction. Two factors of treatment in this research are shape the connection (connection angled lip hooked and lip straight connection) and type of connecting tools (pegs, nails and bolts) with three replications. Measured parameters in this study are the mechanical properties of wood connections on the static bending persistence and determination of bending fracture. The sample size is (W) 5 cm x (H) 5 cm x (L) 76 cm. Then testing the Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) and the Modulus of Rupture (MOR). The results showed that the value of the MOE decreased 81.31% - 90.45% and MOR 81.71%- 91.55%  value also decreased when compared with the control and the value entered in the category of strong wood class V. The low value of the MOE and MOR is found in the connecting tool like pegs and bolts. Thus resulting in the dissolution of the wood fibers and consequently the strength of the connections is low. Then the tool also decreases the strength of nails connecting wood used due to the small diameter of nail (2.8 mm) and use only two sticks nails in one connection. Results of this research on the wood connection with the treatment Nyatoh wood (Palaquium xanthochymum Pierre) used for construction purposes only under the roof only, for example gording, murplat, and plafond which is supported by the use of pillar.   Keyword: Mechanical properties, connection, connection forms, kinds of tools connecting

Abstract

The increasing demand for wood every years is not balanced with the availability of raw materials in nature, especially high-quality wood. Hence the need for an effort to partially overcome this condition by using low quality wood (III-IV) such as Gerunggang wood (Cratoxylon arborescen Bl). Samples were made of Gerunggang wood with size of 30 cm x 8 cm  x 4 cm with a target of 30% reduction in thickness. Physical and mechanical properties testing refers to the British Standard Methods 373 (1957). Parameters measured were color and touch impression, water content, density, dimensional changes, MOE, MOR and MCS). This research used  factorial experiment in a random design complete with  2 factors. Factor A steaming time (50 minutes, 60 minutes and 70 minutes) and factor B pressing time (40 minutes, 60 minutes and 80 minutes) each made 3 times repeats. The results showed Gerunggang wood was densification by steaming and pressing time produce physical and mechanical properties better. The best treatment in this research were at the steaming time treatment 60 minutes and 80 minutes pressing time. Keywords :  Cratoxylon arborescen Bl, densification, physical and mechanical.
