Abstract

Digital health technologies are increasingly gaining attention as innovative solutions for managing neglected tropical diseases, including leprosy. However, the application of these technologies specifically for leprosy in South Asia remains underexplored. This scoping review aims to systematically map existing literature on digital health interventions targeting leprosy within the region and to categorize these approaches based on their technological frameworks. A comprehensive search was conducted across multiple academic databases, yielding 22 relevant sources, of which 20 were research studies and 2 were public health platforms. The included studies explored a diverse range of digital health tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), mobile health (mHealth), wearable devices, sensors, and public health information systems. These technologies are employed for various critical applications, including early detection of leprosy cases, case management, monitoring nerve damage and ulcers, and enhancing disease surveillance. Notably, AI-based diagnostic models have demonstrated high accuracy, often exceeding 90%, and have been a focal point of research due to their potential to improve early diagnosis and reduce delays in treatment. Mobile health solutions, including teleconsultations, helplines, and SMS-based communication, facilitate patient-provider interactions, especially in remote areas with limited healthcare infrastructure. Wearable sensors and offline data transfer systems are also explored for effective monitoring of nerve damage and ulcer prevention. Despite these advances, the review highlights that other digital intervention areas remain less developed, and the implementation challenges such as infrastructural limitations, connectivity issues, and data interoperability—pose significant barriers, particularly in rural South Asian settings. The review underscores the need for further research to evaluate the long-term effectiveness, scalability, and cost-efficiency of these digital interventions. It also advocates for regional collaboration to bridge gaps in underrepresented countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, ultimately aiming to enhance leprosy control and patient outcomes through technological innovation.

Abstract

New students at boarding schools often experience culture shock which can affect their EQ (Emotional Quotient). Tahajud prayer as a sunnah worship is believed to have an influence on increasing EQ (Emotional Quotient) through deeper spiritual habituation. A new santri who makes tahajud prayer a routine worship will have a good EQ (Emotional Quotient). In line with the purpose of this study to determine the effect of tahajud prayer on the EQ (Emotional Quotient) of new female santri at Pondok Pesantren At-Taufiqiyah Sumenep. This study used a cross- sectional observational design with a sample of 43 new female santri selected using simple random sampling technique. The results of the analysis of this study using the ordinal regression analysis test obtained a p-value of 0.01 <0.05 which means that there is an effect of tahajud prayer on the EQ (Emotional Quotient) of new female santri at the At-Taufiqiyah Islamic Boarding School Sumenep. The implementation of tahajud prayer can affect the EQ (Emotional Quotient) of new female santri, because by regularly implementing tahajud prayer and parenting factors from parents and administrators tend to have a better level of self-awareness, emotional control, motivation, empathy, and social skills compared to those who rarely do it.

Abstract

Dental caries affects 60-90% of children globally. 70% of children suffer from dental caries in Malaysia. Early childhood oral education is crucial to lifelong oral hygiene habits. Traditional educational methods may not capture the attention and interest of preschool children. Thus, puppetry can be an engaging and creative learning tool to enhance comprehension and retention of oral health messages among preschool children. We aim to inculcate oral health knowledge among preschool children. A cross-sectional study was conducted at Ar Rayyan Integrated Smart Caliph Melaka, Malaysia, among 51 preschool children aged 4 to 6 years old using the purposive sampling method. A questionnaire was used to identify the oral health knowledge score in 4 intervals (before and after on day 1, day 7, and day 14). A live puppet show was performed on day 1 after the pre-test questionnaire was completed, followed by a video recording of the puppet show played daily for the preschool children after day 1 till day 14. Results showed significant improvement of mean oral health knowledge scores of 2.71 and 3.53 (pre- and post-test) on day 1 with a p-value of <0.0015. Subsequently, the mean knowledge score was 4.00 on day 7 and 4.27 on day 14. All five knowledge areas showed sustained improvement (p<0.001) over the spaced time. This indicates promising retention of oral health messages. Puppetry proved effective in the delivery and retention of oral health knowledge of preschool children. The significant and sustained increase in mean knowledge scores highlights its potential as an innovative tool in early childhood oral health education.

Abstract

a chronic metabolic illness marked known as type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is characterised by persistent hyperglycemia brought on by either insulin resistance or inadequate insulin production. This study examines the effect of hydrotherapy—specifically the daily consumption of plain water—on blood glucose levels in individuals with DM. Utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design, 51 randomly selected participants consumed 1.5 liters of plain water each morning for seven consecutive days, no later than 15 minutes before breakfast. The study aims to evaluate water intake as a potential supportive intervention in managing blood glucose. Data examined with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a substantial drop in blood glucose levels following the hydrotherapy session (p-value = 0.000 < α = 0.05). The outcomes of this study show that the incorporation of plain water consumption within the framework of hydrotherapy demonstrates a significant potential in minimizing blood glucose levels among individuals diagnosed with type 2 DM. This suggests that hydrotherapy, when complemented by adequate water intake, may serve as an effective, non-pharmacological intervention for managing glycemic control in diabetic patients. As such, it may serve as an independent nursing intervention to help prevent complications associated with the condition.

Abstract

Anemia is a major health problem in adolescent girls that can have an impact on learning achievement, productivity, and overall health. One of the interventions carried out to reduce the prevalence of anemia is the administration of blood supplement tablets (TTD). However, the compliance rate of TTD consumption among adolescent girls is still low. This study seeks to examine the impact of educational interventions utilizing animated video media on the awareness and adherence to Fe tablet consumption for the prevention of anemia among adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 3 Bojonegoro. The research employs a pre-experimental methodology characterized by a one-group pre-test post-test design. The sampling technique implemented was cluster sampling, with a total of 55 adolescents serving as participants. The results showed that education with animated video media significantly increased knowledge and compliance with TTD consumption with a p-value of 0.000 and 0.004. Before being educated, most of the respondents had a low level of knowledge and compliance with TTD consumption. After being educated, there was an increase in the knowledge aspect by 69% and an increase in the compliance aspect by 62%. Thus, education using animated video media has proven to be effective in increasing the knowledge and adherence of young women to TTD consumption and can be used as a good learning medium for young women at junior high school age. While the findings are promising, the single-group design and limited setting highlight the need for future studies using more rigorous experimental methods and broader population coverage.
