Abstract

The toddler years are a very important period of life where a very rapid growth and development process occurs, namely physical growth and psychomotor, mental, and social development. Nowadays, the problem of malnutrition in toddlers, especially aged 1-5 years, is very serious and needs further treatment. Some literature states that the role of the family, especially family parenting, plays a very important role in the problem of providing nutrition during the toddler years. Providing quality supplementary food/PMT is a solution that must be implemented by parents who have children with nutritional problems. The role of families who do not pay attention to their toddler's diet has an impact on eating patterns that are not by the child's nutritional needs, thus having an effect on the health status of toddlers. This research design uses analytical methods with a Cross Sectional approach. The sampling method was carried out by Total Random Sampling. The independent variable is the role of the family and the dependent variable is the incidence of malnutrition. Research data was collected using a questionnaire and by looking at the KMS book for toddlers. After the questionnaire data was collected, tabulation was carried out and statistical tests were carried out using the Spearman Rank test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results of the study showed that the role of the family was the highest at 42 families (48.8%), and the eating patterns of children under five were mostly in the category of 38 children under five (44.2%). From the results of statistical analysis using the Spearman Rank test, the value ρ = 0.014 < α = 0.05 was obtained. The role of the family is related to the incidence of malnutrition in toddlers aged 1-5 years. Providing health education to families is very important in terms of providing quality supplementary food/PMT to increase family knowledge in feeding children to avoid malnutrition.

Abstract

Dental And Oral Health Care Service Model Based On Appropriate Technology in The Orphanage Community. Residents of orphanages are school-age children in groups who are prone to tooth decay and whose rights and needs are no different from other children their age. Appropriate technology assistance (TTG) is needed to overcome dental and oral health problems in orphanage children. The general objective of this research is to produce a feasible model of appropriate technology-based dental and oral health care (TTG) services and their effective application to improve dental and oral health in orphanage children. The method in this study uses the R&D (Research and Development) method with Pre- Experimental Pretest and Posttest Design research design. Respondents numbered 20 dental health cadres to assess behavior (knowledge, attitudes, actions) and 150 orphanage children (OHI-S; DMF-T). Expert validation test of dental and oral health care service modules based on appropriate technology (TTG) amounted to 67.60% real. Knowledge assessments and actions improved significantly after treatment (p=<0.001, p=0.004, respectively). Attitude assessment did not increase compared to the previous (p = 0.005). The behavior of dental health cadres did not affect OHIS and DMFT (p=0.62, p=0.20, respectively). It can be concluded that the appropriate technology-based dental and oral health care (TTG) service model provides a significant increase in the knowledge and actions of dental health cadres but does not improve attitudes, OHIS, and DMFT.

Abstract

Debris is soft material from stuck food residue. It is known from the initial examination data on September 4 2023 that students had a debris index score of 1.9 in the bad category and not in accordance with WHO regulations, namely 0 – 1.6 in the good category. The problem of this research is the high debris index rate in students in classes III A and III B at SDN Bendul Merisi in 2024. This condition is caused by a lack of knowledge about maintaining dental and oral hygiene. The aim of this research is to find out the use of board game media in increasing knowledge about maintaining dental and oral hygiene. This type of research is descriptive research using pretest and posttest with the research target being 56 students in class III A and III B at SDN Bendul Merisi. The data collection method uses a questionnaire sheet. The results of the research were that students' knowledge before counseling was in the poor category, while students' knowledge after counseling was in the good category. So it can be concluded that there is an increase in knowledge from poor to good after counseling using board game media for students in class III A and III B at SDN Bendul Merisi in 2024.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Soy juice or also known as soy milk is in great demand by people who are allergic to cow's milk. Existing soy milk usually smells a little languorous so it is less desirable, to anticipate this by adding pandan leaves when boiling it or by adding synthetic essences. In this research, soy milk will be added with ingredients that have never been used and combined, namely cinnamon and green grass jelly. This research aims to evaluate the acceptability and nutritional benefits of soy milk with cinnamon and green grass jelly as an alternative snack for type 2 diabetes patients. The research design used is an experiment by giving treatment to samples to find out the acceptability of the product after being treated. The product made was carried out 3 treatments on the composition of ingredients (weight) with the ratio of Soy Milk : Cinnamon Powder : Green grass jelly as follows : Formulation 1 (SC01) = 150 : 1 : 50, Formulation 2 (SC02) = 150 : 1,5 : 50, Formulation 3 (SC03) = 150 : 2 : 50. Tests on soy milk with the addition of cinnamon powder and green grass jelly were carried out through 2 types of tests, namely subjective tests and objective tests. Subjective tests (organoleptic tests) were conducted with a target of 30 trained panelists using a hedonic scale to analyze the level of liking based on color, taste, aroma, and texture. As for objective tests using gravimetric tests in the laboratory by looking at the fiber and chromium content in soy milk with the addition of cinnamon powder and green grass jelly. Based on the results of the Organoleptic Test on all formulas, the most preferred is formula SC03 with 17 panelists/56.7%, the aroma of formula SC02 with 18 panelists/60%, the taste of formula SC02 with 14 panelists/46.6%, the viscosity/texture of formula SC02 and SC03 with 15 panelists/50%. INDEX TERMS Acceptability, Type 2 diabetes mellitus, Chromium level, Fiber level, Soy milk, Cinnamon, Green grass jelly

Abstract

This letter to the editor addresses the significant findings and limitations of the study on the impact of family roles on toddler nutrition. While the research reveals a crucial link between family dynamics and the incidence of wasting, it is constrained by its cross-sectional design and dependence on self-reported data, potentially obscuring causal relationships. The letter advocates for the inclusion of longitudinal studies and qualitative methods to better understand family influences on nutritional outcomes. It also emphasizes the importance of culturally informed approaches and the alignment of research with public health policies to develop effective interventions for improving toddler nutrition across diverse communities.
