Abstract

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a common musculoskeletal disorder caused by compression of the median nerve, resulting in paresthesia, pain, and impaired hand function. If left untreated, CTS may lead to hand weakness, limitations in daily activities, reduced work productivity, and poorer quality of life. Although Kinesio Taping has emerged as a non-invasive intervention, evidence of its effectiveness among informal workers remains limited. This study aimed to analyze changes in symptom severity and hand function before and after kinesio taping application in informal workers with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest study without a control group was conducted among 40 informal workers aged 18–60 years who had been clinically diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in Surakarta, Indonesia. The participants received Kinesio Taping for 4 weeks. Outcomes were assessed using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ), which included the Symptom Severity Scale (SSS) and Functional Status Scale (FSS). As the data were not normally distributed based on the Shapiro–Wilk test, pre- and post-intervention scores were compared using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The median SSS score decreased significantly from 3.55 to 2.10, while the median FSS score decreased from 3.30 to 2.00 (p < 0.001). These findings indicate a reduction in symptom severity and an improvement in hand function following kinesio taping application. The study supports its use as a practical, low-cost, and accessible intervention for informal workers with limited access to healthcare services.

Abstract

Short-term memory serves as a temporary information storage system and plays a crucial role in supporting the learning processes of medical students. This study aimed to examine the association between sleep quality, physical activity, and burnout with short-term memory among medical students. An analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach was applied, and 284 medical students from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta were selected using a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data collection was conducted using validated questionnaires (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Global Physical Activity Questionnaire, and Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey) and the Scenery Picture Memory Test (SPMT). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, and robust Poisson regression to identify factors independently associated with short-term memory. The results showed that the majority of students (53.2%) had good short-term memory. Bivariate analysis indicated that sleep quality (p = 0.028), physical activity (p = 0.046), and burnout (p = 0.015) were significantly associated with short-term memory. However, robust Poisson regression analysis revealed that only burnout remained significantly associated with short-term memory (p = 0.022). The pseudo R-square value of 0.060 indicated limited explanatory power of the model, suggesting that other unmeasured factors may also contribute to short-term memory performance. Short-term memory in medical students is influenced by multiple factors, with burnout identified as the main determinant. Therefore, the prevention and management of burnout should be prioritized, along with the adoption of healthy sleep patterns and regular physical activity to support cognitive health and academic performance.

Abstract

Hospital pharmacy installations (IFRS) are strategic units that demand optimal organizational management for patient safety. This study aims to analyze the influence of the leadership style of the chief pharmacist and organizational support on the success of drug therapy through the performance of the pharmacy team at Melinda Hospital. Quantitative research with causal Associative Design and cross-sectional approach uses the method of gradual linear regression analysis through path analysis. The sample was selected using the total sampling technique for all pharmaceutical personnel in IFRS Melinda year 2026, which amounted to 48 subjects. Data collection using structured questionnaires Likert scale. Descriptive analysis showed team performance and organizational support were in the high category, while leadership and therapeutic success were in the sufficient category. The results showed that leadership style had no direct effect on the success of therapy (p = 0.098), but a significant effect indirectly through full mediation pharmaceutical team performance (p = 0.002). In contrast, organizational support had a significant direct effect on the success of drug therapy (p = 0.019), but did not significantly affect team performance. As an additional justification, simultaneous testing confirmed the shared contribution of all predictor variables to the variance of pharmacy team performance (p = 0.003). The performance of the pharmaceutical team acts as an absolute mediator for the effectiveness of the leadership of the chief pharmacist in the success of drug therapy. Melinda's hospital management is advised to optimize the participatory leadership approach and evaluate clinical indicators in order to boost the achievement of patient safety on an ongoing basis.

Abstract

Anemia is a major public health concern among adolescent girls in Indonesia, particularly due to increased iron requirements and menstrual blood loss. Digital health education may provide an accessible and engaging approach to promoting anemia prevention. This study aimed to determine the difference in adolescent girls’ attitudes toward anemia prevention before and after digital media-based reproductive health education at SMP Negeri 06 Singosari, Malang Regency. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted among 42 eighth-grade female students aged 12–15 years. Data were collected using a structured attitude questionnaire administered before and after a 30-minute educational video intervention. Data were analyzed using a paired-sample t-test with a significance level of 0.05. Before the intervention, 18 students (42.9%) demonstrated positive attitudes, while 24 (57.1%) demonstrated negative attitudes. After the intervention, the number of students with positive attitudes increased to 32 (76.2%), while those with negative attitudes decreased to 10 (23.8%). The mean attitude score increased from 38.95 at pretest to 44.74 at posttest, with a statistically significant difference between the two measurements (p < 0.001). Digital media-based reproductive health education was associated with a significant increase in adolescent girls’ attitudes toward anemia prevention. Digital educational media may therefore be a useful approach to support school-based health promotion and anemia prevention programs among adolescent girls.

Abstract

The immune system protects the body through the activation of immune cells, which can be supported by polysaccharides from wood ear mushrooms as potential immunomodulators. This study aimed to determine the effect of wood ear mushroom extract on leukocyte count and lymphocyte percentage in male Wistar rats. A true experimental post-test-only control group design was used with 25 male Wistar rats divided into five groups: extract doses of 300, 400, and 500 mg/kg body weight, a positive control group received an immune booster supplement, and a negative control group. The treatments were administered orally for 10 days. Leukocyte counts and lymphocyte percentages were measured using a hematology analyzer. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, one-way ANOVA, and DMRT as a post hoc test. Leukocyte counts showed no significant differences among groups (p > 0.05), whereas lymphocyte percentages differed significantly (p = 0.0005). Bonferroni post hoc analysis showed significant differences (p < 0.05). Based on the DMRT results, 400 mg/kg body weight was considered the optimal dose because it belonged to the same subset as the positive control. Wood ear mushroom extract has potential as a natural immunomodulator that may enhance adaptive immune responses. Further studies are recommended to assess immune parameters before and after treatment and to identify bioactive compounds involved in its immunomodulatory effects.

Abstract

Female workers in entertainment venues are at higher risk of experiencing reproductive health problems due to shift work patterns, lack of rest, exposure to cigarette smoke, and unhealthy diets. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between menstrual cycles and anemia status with the risk of PCOS in female billiard workers in Samarinda City. The study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 96 subjects selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through closed questionnaires and hemoglobin level examinations. Data analysis was performed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level and the strength of the association with the PR value. The results showed that the majority of subjects experienced irregular menstrual cycles (54%) and anemia (76%). Subjects at risk of PCOS were 39.6%. There was a significant association between anemia status and PCOS risk (p = 0.045; PR = 2.08), meaning that subjects with anemia had a 2.08-fold higher prevalence of PCOS risk. In addition, irregular menstrual cycles were also significantly associated with the risk of PCOS (p = 0.001; PR = 3.75). Irregular menstrual cycles were associated with a 3.75-fold higher prevalence of PCOS risk than regular menstrual cycles. This study concluded that menstrual cycle and anemia status are factors associated with PCOS risk in female billiard workers. Reproductive health education, monthly menstrual cycle monitoring, and routine Hb level checks are needed as an effort for early detection and prevention of PCOS in women of reproductive age.

Abstract

Breast milk production in postpartum mothers may be affected by psychological conditions and poor sleep quality, which can influence oxytocin secretion. Husband involvement and spiritual approaches may provide practical and culturally appropriate support during the postpartum period. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the SPEOS (Endorphin, Oxytocin, and Suggestive Massage Stimulation) method administered by husbands combined with Qur'anic murottal therapy on breast milk production, sleep quality, and psychological condition among postpartum mothers. A quasi-experimental study with a post-test-only control group design was conducted among 98 postpartum mothers recruited through accidental sampling from eight independent midwifery practices in Pringsewu Regency, with 49 participants in each group. The intervention was implemented throughout the first four weeks postpartum and consisted of husband-administered SPEOS massage combined with Surah Ar-Rahman murottal therapy. Data were analyzed using bivariate statistical tests with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results demonstrated significant differences between the intervention and control groups in breast milk production (p = 0.002), sleep quality (p = 0.002), and psychological condition (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that husband-administered SPEOS combined with Qur'anic murottal therapy may improve breast milk production, sleep quality, and psychological well-being among postpartum mothers. This intervention may serve as a feasible complementary approach that promotes active husband involvement in postpartum care.
