Abstract

This study is concerned with analyzing the research entitled Illocutionary Acts Found In The Main Character’s Utterances. This research is concerned with identifying the types of illocutionary acts used by the main characters, how often the types of illocutionary acts occurred, and which types appeared most frequently in the movie. This research utilized qualitative method, which is the data were achieved by watch the movie. Five types of illocutionary acts were discovered in the utterance of the main characters in Alladin movie as a result of this analysis. Those are declarative, representative, expressive, directive, commissive. The qualitative method was applied to find out the frequency and the types of illocutionary acts used in alladin movie. The researcher found five types those are directive 3 data or 23%, expressive 3 data or 23% , representative 2 data or 15%, commissive 1 data or 8%, and declarative 4 data or 31% used in alladin movie. Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the conflict that found in the Kung Fu Panda 1 movie, and to analyze the moral values of being that found in the Kung Fu Panda 1 movie. This movie narrates about a fat panda who has a solid desire about being the greatest warrior. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this research to elaborate the conflict in this movie also, deliver a clear and brief description of the moral values of being. In the data collection, researcher combining between watching and recording techniques. These things are examined using DiYanni (2000) theory to analyze the conflict, and while, Linda & Eyre (1993) to identify the moral values of being in the movie. The subject of this research is the movie entitled Kung Fu Panda 1 by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris. The result of this study showed that are 3 (three) types of conflict that found in the Kung Fu Panda 1 movie, namely between character and themselves, between character and the other characters, and between character and society. Furthermore, there are 5 (five) types of moral values of being, namely honesty, courage, peaceability, self-reliance and potential, and self-discipline and moderation.

Abstract

The use of taboo words is prohibited in some places or situations. But even the use of taboo words are prohibited, a lot of people still use them, especially for teenagers. They use taboo words to express their emotion. Taboo words are commonly used in movies or filmswith comedy genres. The aim of this research is focused on analyzing the type of taboo word that is used by the character in the Bad Boys for Life movie. The researcher used this film as the data source because it consists of a lot of taboo words used by the characters because this film has comedy and action genres. The researcher used observation method in collecting the data by watches and observes the movie than taking note the important words. This research used the theory proposed byBatistella (2005)to analyze the data. According to Batistella (2005), there are 4 types of taboo words: Profanity, Epithet, Vulgarity, and Obscenity. The result of this research is the highest frequency type of taboo word found is Vulgarity with 12 words, and the second is Epithet with 4 words and the lowest frequency is Profanity and Obscenity with 3 words each type.

Abstract

One of human communication tools is language. Language can be divided into two types, formal and informal language. Taboo words are included in informal language because they can't be spoken in all situations or places. Taboo words are usually spoken by several people because they have their own functions when using them. The aim of this study is to find out the functions of taboo words that are used in the “Ready or Not” movie. This study used theory from Wardhaugh (2006: 239) to find out the functions of taboo words. The method being used in this study is a descriptive and qualitative method and observation technique to collect the data. In general, it is found three out of four functions of taboo words, those are to show contempt, to draw attention to oneself, and to be provocative.

Abstract

Code Mixing is a combination of one language or more language from the speaker in communication. The phenomenon that I often encounter around me is that many young people use one or two languages in their spoken language. It is chosen because code mixing is very important for everyone, especially for people who live in bilingual or multilingual society. This study focuses on analyzing types of code mixing in Indonesian Casters of PMPL South East Asia Championship Play-In Spring 2022. The author used observation method in collecting the data by observe the video source , taking noted the code mixing utterances and classified it into table of data. This research used theory proposed by Hoffman (1991) to analyze the data. There are three types of code mixing based on syntactical patterns, they are : Intra-sentential code mixing, Intra-lexical code mixing, Involving a change of pronunciation. The result of this research is the dominant type found is Instra-sentential code mixing with 82 data from 114 total data. And the second is Intra-lexical with 32 data and the last is involving a change of prononciation with 0 data

Abstract

Nowadays we can meet people with various types of personality that are diverse and sometimes unique. Therefore, this research entitled "A Personality Study of the Main Character in Luca Movie" has the main objective to analyze the personality of the main character in a movie entitled ‘Luca’. The method used is the documentation method to capture every scene and dialogue, which will be used as data in this study, and after that it will be continued by describing each data obtained in order to get a clearer understanding. This research uses the personality type theory proposed by Jason Gale in his book entitled ‘How to Analyze People Ultimate Guide; Learn Psychology, Body Language, Perception, Types of Personalities, and Universal Rules’. This movie has three characters as the main characters; Luca Paguro, Alberto Scorfano, and Giulia Marcovando. The results of this study indicate that Luca Paguro is the protagonist of this story and he also has introverted and feeler nature. While his friend, Alberto Scorfano is an adventurer, he is an extrovert who is also a censor. And lastly, Giulia Marcovando is an extroverted censorship type girl and a defender as seen from how she tries to protect Luca and Alberto.

Abstract

This study aimed to ascertain the abilities and difficulties in Speaking English of the third-semester students in the 3D class of the English Literature Department at Mahasaraswati Denpasar University. This research looked specifically at students' speaking skills. This research used descriptive quantitative methods. The approach of purposive sampling was adopted in this research. Eighteen students from the 3D class made up the sample for the research. The method the researcher used to determine speaking ability in speech was a speaking test. This research was conducted via WhatsApp. For instance, students are required to give a speech while it is being recorded on camera. Thus speaking ability will be examined in this research. Then, the researcher and inter-rater assessed their speaking. As a result, the findings of this study showed that three students had Excellent speaking ability, seven students had a good speaking ability, six students had Average speaking ability, and two students had Fair speaking ability. Pronunciation was the hardest part for the students, followed by fluency, comprehensibility, grammar, and vocabulary. In conclusion, the students generally have good speaking ability, and the pronunciation component is the greatest challenge for the students.

Abstract

In this study, language style was examined as it is used in the film "Keeping Mum," which illustrates how language style is employed in society. The varieties of language styles employed in the film "Keeping Mum" and the factors influencing the choice of language style in the "Keeping Mum" movie are the two issues that need to be resolved in the study. The theoretical foundation of this study is based on Joos (1967), who identified five different language styles: the frozen style, the formal style, the consultative style, the casual style, the intimate style, and according to Holmes (1992) The participant, setting, topic, and function are the four criteria used to select linguistic variety. The study's finding that there are 20 data points on the different language styles and elaborate factors influencing the choice of language style that been used in “Keeping Mum” movie and intimate style is the mostly language style used by the characters with percentage is about 40%.

Abstract

This study is titled Deixis Found in Kobe Bryant Interview Entitled “Love What You Do”. The objectives of this study are to identify the deixis kinds employed in Kobe Bryant's interview as well as the predominate type. The data source was taken from YouTube, the researchers took the following actions in order to collect the data. Firstly, the researchers searched the video of Kobe Bryant Interview entitled Love What You Do in YouTube. Secondly, the researchers watched the video and read the script. Thirdly, note taking the utterances that contain of deixis. Fourth, based on the varieties of deixis, the researcher examined those types. This research employed a descriptive qualitative research design and used theory proposed by Yule (1996). The findings indicate there are three different types of deixis used in Kobe Bryant Interview involving person deixis, spatial deixis and temporal deixis. Personal deixis is the most dominant deixis found in Kobe Bryant interview because when Kobe Bryant recounted his struggles and experiences of becoming one of the best basketball players in the world, he used the words “I” and “you” a lot.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find the kinds of inflectional morphemes and analyze the morphological process of new word formations in English by using articles of Tempo English Magazine. The more specific objective of this research is to know the structure (morphological process) word formation which involves the English inflectional morphemes. This research used the theory proposed by Fromkin, Rodman, & Hyams (2011). The method of this research used descriptive qualitative and quantitative. The data source of this research was from one of the famous digital magazines that is Tempo English Magazine. This research result shows that there are seven types of inflectional morphemes such as third person singular present (-s attached to verbs) with a percentage 8,20%, plural ( -s indicator of plural forms of nouns) 22,13%, possessive ( -s’ marks of possessive forms of nouns) 1,64%, progressive (-ing indicates the present participle)18,03%, past tense (-ed indicator of past tense of verbs) 48,36%, past participle (-en) 0,82%, and superlative (-est indicator of superlative form of adjectives) 0,82%.
