Abstract

The most complaint symptom for post herniotomy patients is pain on the surgical site. Pain may affect patients' ability to mobilize and may attribute to prolonged length of stay in the hospital. Many complementary therapies have been used to decrease pain intensity for patients post-surgery, but warm compress intervention on post herniotomy pain has not been explored significantly. To investigate the effect of warm compress intervention on post herniotomy pain. The study used a pre-post test quasi-experimental with control group design. Sixteen post herniotomy adult patients of Wates Kulon Progo District General Hospital of Yogyakarta were recruited for each group. The intervention group was given warm compress interventions two times per day for two days. Pain intensity was assessed pre and post-intervention with the Numerical Rating Scale, while the control group only received regular analgetic. The researchers used the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and Mann-Whitney U Test to compare pain intensity in each group and between groups.Fifteen out of 16 patients who received warm compress intervention rated decreased pain intensity as the rest did not experience any differences after the intervention (Z=-3.354, p=.001). Unlike the control group, only 3 out of 16 patients experienced declined pain intensity after two days of herniotomy when the rest did not encounter any changes (Z=-1.732, p=.083). The mean rank between intervention and control groups were significantly different (U=20.000, p=.000). Warm compress intervention is a non-invasive nursing intervention which is effective in reducing the pain intensity of post herniotomy patients.

Abstract

The control of infection in diabetic foot ulcers is essential to prevent injuries from getting worse. Infection in diabetic foot ulcers is generally caused by bacteria existence in the wound. Antibiotics may not be orally able to exterminate bacteria rapidly in the wound area, so antibiotics are needed directly and topically to the wound to reduce the infection process. This case describes wound care intervention using gauze added by antibiotic metronidazole as a wound compress in a 46-year-old male patient with diabetic foot ulcers treated at Cempaka Ward Banyumas Regional Public Hospital. This case is interesting because the medical intervention given to patients is rarely implemented in clinical practice. The conclusion is that a metronidazole antibiotic used to compress wounds in patients with diabetic foot ulcers can reduce the wound infection process.

Abstract

Bloating (meteorism, tympanities) is a symptom that indicates the presence of air or gas in the abdominal or intestinal cavity (Gina et al., 2020). In newborns (neonates) occurs because the digestive system in neonates is immature, besides that there are not enough digestive enzymes available at birth, and will only reach sufficient levels with increasing age, this is as stated by Padila et al. , 2019. To overcome flatulence in infants, non-pharmacological therapy can be used, namely by using telon oil by massaging it on the baby's stomach, this can reduce bloating in infants. To determine the application of telon oil to reduce bloating in new born. Case study report using descriptive method, the location of the residence of Mrs. K in Nangkod Village Rt02/05, Kejobong District, Purbalingga Regency. Abstract

Nurses play a critical part in disaster response, and having nursing skills to be prepared for a disaster is essential and valuable. Healthcare workers must be explicitly trained to respond during catastrophe; thus, this study focused to determine the student nurse's knowledge, attitude, and practices on disaster preparedness as future care provider. This utilized a quantitative descriptive-correlational approach, total enumeration sampling, and used a four-part survey questionnaire. The result showed that most respondents were female, aged 18 to 22, and a resident of rural area. Nursing students have a sufficient understanding of disaster preparedness, including the importance of effective disaster planning and preparation, disaster warnings and indicators, and the appropriate responses to consider in the event of a disaster. The nursing students have a positive attitude toward disaster preparedness, particularly regarding their families' safety. Nursing students agree that they have sufficient disaster preparedness strategies, although they are not always mentally and physically prepared when a disaster occurs. Findings revealed that students' disaster preparedness knowledge and practices significantly correlate with their demographic profile; their social integration improve as they progress through the year levels. Based on the collected data, the nursing students' knowledge, attitude, and practices are satisfactory; however, there is still potential to expand and enhance disaster preparedness knowledge, attitude, and practices. Continuing education and training workshops to become proficient in disaster preparedness could help students improve knowledge, attitude, and practices, resulting in better management and preparation for potential disaster occurrences.
