Abstract

The real-life experiences of the COVID-19 survivors during their admission to COVID facilities and their well-being during the COVID-19 phenomena are largely neglected. Given this, the study aimed to explore the experiences and grieving process of the COVID-19 survivors during and after their admission to the COVID facility. This study utilized the qualitative interpretative phenomenological design and used both the purposive and snowball sampling techniques to gather nine participants. A semi-structured interview guide developed by the researchers were used to gather data conducted online. Five themes and fifteen categories were extracted; the major themes were physiological experiences, psychological-emotional experiences, coping mechanisms, life after isolation, and stigma and discrimination. The findings revealed that the participants during the infection experienced both physiological and psychological-emotional experiences that varies based on the patient's health status and comorbidities. After the infection, the participants were relieved since they could return to their everyday lives and demonstrate a sense of growth to increase awareness to maintain a healthy physical body and observe precautionary measures. The strong association between the participants’ experiences and the stages of grieving has been known to be valid and relevant in this context. This study recommends that COVID-19 patients be given a holistic approach throughout and after their illness recovery, as this can increase their responsiveness to treatment and their overall well-being.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines caused schools to shift from face-to-face learning to a flexible learning approach that partly requires technology to deal with. Given this solution, the implementation caused struggles for nursing students with limited technological resources. Thus, the researchers deemed it necessary to conduct this research to describe the technological resources used by the nursing students and the coping strategies they develop to manage their situation. This research used a quantitative descriptive-correlational approach; a total enumeration as sampling design gathered through questionnaire was utilized. Analysis of data revealed that most of the profile of respondents were female, from the rural area, monthly family income belonged to the low-income group (but not poor), the monthly budget for internet Php 1,001 to Php 1,500, and using a router. The result also showed that students get stressed out when they get disconnected in the online discussion. They also felt pressure in their academic subjects, resulting in ineffective learning and trouble uploading videos. Given these, the student’s coping strategy is to download the PPT/PDF of the online lessons to manage the situation. Correlation analysis was used and revealed that all variables were correlated to each other. This study came up with a proposed program to augment limited technological resources with the aid of the school and in collaboration with other agencies that can address this concern.

Abstract

The clinical learning environment is an essential component of nursing education as it allows students to integrate theory into clinical practice. However, it is considered a critical factor as it may or may not help the student nurses grow and expand their knowledge, skills, and professional attitude. As such, this study described the clinical learning experience of the fourth-year nursing students of Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology examining the underlying factors that influence the entire learning experience. The study utilized a descriptive – quantitative correlational design and total enumeration as the sampling procedure. The result showed that most of the respondents were in the early adulthood; female; monthly family income is 5,001-10,000, and preferred working in base hospital, operating room; and preferred the morning shift. The core competencies in which the respondents showed enhanced performance and aptitude were legal responsibility, ethico-moral responsibility, and collaboration and team work. The lowest, on the other hand, were personal and professional development, quality improvement, safe and quality nursing care, and research. A significant relationship between the actual age and safe and quality nursing and communication core competencies. A proposed action plan was devised for student nurses to strengthen their research competency.

Abstract

Radiographic examination of the knee joint in Osteoarthritis (OA) cases was generally performed using anteroposterior (AP), lateral and oblique projections. However, at the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) of Ajibarang, in the case of OA the knee joint only used AP and lateral projections. The purpose of this study was to determine the radiographic examination procedure and ensure the criteria for the image generated from the AP projection and lateral examination of the knee joint in OA cases. This research was a qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. Collecting data on 1 knee joint patient with OA in Ajibarang Hospital using observation, documentation and interviews with radiographers and radiologist. Data analysis used open coding in the form of quotations. The results showed that the AP and lateral projections were performed with the central ray perpendicular to the cassette and showed the distal femur, tibia, proximal fibula and patella, the femoropatellar joint and the knee joint were exposed and the true lateral was shown by superposition of the femoral condyles. Finally, examination of the knee joint of OA cases at Ajibarang Hospital with AP and lateral projections can still display the anatomy of interest and determine the diagnosis of OA cases.

Abstract

The postpartum period starts from 2 hours after the birth of the placenta until 6 weeks (42 days) after that. Puerperium is a period of recovery, starting from the completion of labor until the uterine devices return to their original state as before pregnancy. Katuk leaves contain compounds that can stimulate the hormone prolactin so that breast milk increases. One of the efforts to increase breast milk is to improve the quality of foods that have a direct effect on milk production, such as green vegetables, katuk leaves, sweet potato leaves, papaya leaves and so on. Katuk leaves contain almost 7% protein and 19% crude fiber, vitamin K, pro-vitamin A (beta-carotene, vitamins B and C. The minerals contained are calcium (2.8%) iron, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium. To find out the application of consuming katuk leaves can launch Mother's Milk. Abstract

Cancer diagnosis has detrimental effects on patients’ families since they have to take care of the patients, resulting in caregivers' burden. This study aimed to investigate the burden of family caregivers caring for cancer patients. A descriptive quantitative study was applied to 60 family caregivers of cancer patients in a government hospital in Yogyakarta. Data were gathered using sociodemographic and health-related instruments and Zarit Burden Interview, then analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The results showed all family caregivers expressed their feelings of the intensity of burden (60% little or no burden, 36.7% mild-to-moderate, 3.3% moderate-to-severe), and none of them expressed severe burden. The majority were patients' children, married males, over 40 years old, and small family members living in the same house in a rural area. They went to high school or university, working in private sector, with monthly family income were below a minimum standard. They spent 1-6 hours per day for caregiving without experience in caring. They also did not have any chronic diseases, whom the majority of patients they were taking care of had third stadium of breast cancer without metastasis with chemotherapy. To conclude, most caregivers experienced little or no burden in caring for their family members with cancer.

Abstract

The postpartum period refers to the first 42 days after childbirth. Breast milk contains the most appropriate and complete nutrient. Besides, it always adapts to the needs of the baby. There are several benefits of breast milk for babies the number of calories in breast milk can meet the needs of the baby, breast milk contains protective substances, and it strengthens the bond between a mother and her baby. Breast care stimulates prolactin, the hormone which helps milk production to facilitate breast milk. Oxytocin massage stimulates the posterior pituitary to release oxytocin, thus breast milk production is increased. This research aimed to determine the effect of breast care and oxytocin massage on breast milk production of postpartum mothers. In this research, the pre-experimental method was employed with a two-group pretest-posttest design. Most of the research respondents were 20-35 years old, multiparas, and graduated from junior and senior high school. Before breast care and oxytocin massage were conducted to 27 (93%) and 24 (86%) postpartum mothers respectively, most of them had low breastmilk supply. While, after the treatments were given to 27 (93%) postpartum mothers with breast care, and 24 (86%) postpartum mothers with oxytocin massage, most of the respondents had better milk production. The Mann Whitney test held after breast care and oxytocin massage indicated that p-value was 0.000 (p<0,05) for both variables. There is an effect of breast care and oxytocin massage on breast milk production of postpartum mothers.
