Abstract

General Background: Education quality is strongly influenced by the teaching methods applied, as they shape students’ understanding and engagement. Specific Background: In Islamic Religious Education and Character Education at SDN Grogol 2 Kediri, conventional methods such as lectures and assignments have led to low student comprehension. Knowledge Gap: Limited studies have explored the application of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model in early grade Islamic education using a classroom action research (CAR) framework. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the application of the TGT model to improve learning outcomes in grade II Islamic Religious Education. Results: Conducted over two CAR cycles involving 30 students, findings showed an increase in the average score from 69.33 (cycle I) with 40% not meeting the minimum criteria, to 77.46 (cycle II) with only 3% not meeting the criteria. Novelty: The research uniquely integrates TGT with structured digital game-based tournaments for Islamic education in early grades. Implications: These results suggest that TGT can serve as an effective and engaging pedagogical approach to improve student performance and participation in Islamic Religious Education at the elementary level. Abstract

General Background: Education plays a crucial role in developing students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, with psychomotor skills being essential for practical science learning. Specific Background: In elementary science education, instructional practices often emphasize cognitive knowledge, leaving psychomotor skill development underexplored. Knowledge Gap: Limited research addresses effective strategies for enhancing psychomotor abilities in primary school science contexts. Aims: This study aimed to improve the psychomotor skills of 4th grade primary school students in natural science learning through the application of the experimental method. Results: Using a weak-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest, and saturated sampling of all 19 students, psychomotor ability was measured across three indicators: conducting experiments, analyzing results, and presenting findings. The intervention yielded an N-gain score of 0.71, categorized as high, with notable improvements in conducting (0.89) and analyzing (0.92) experiments. Novelty: This study integrates hands-on experimental activities with structured psychomotor assessment, demonstrating the experimental method’s potential to bridge theory and practice in elementary science education. Implications: Findings highlight the importance of incorporating active, practice-oriented strategies in science curricula to foster holistic learning, suggesting that future research explore scalable, innovative models to sustain psychomotor development in primary education. Abstract

General Background: The integration of cultural contexts into education has gained increasing attention as a means to enhance relevance and engagement in learning. Specific Background: In Indonesia, the application of ethnoscience within the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach has shown potential for improving students’ comprehension of integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) by linking concepts to local wisdom. Knowledge Gap: However, empirical evidence on the effectiveness of ethnoscience-based CTL for elementary-level IPAS learning remains limited. Aim: This study investigates the effectiveness of ethnoscience-based CTL in enhancing learning outcomes, engagement, and perceptions among fifth-grade students. Results: Conducted at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Sedati with 30 participants, the experimental one-group pretest–posttest design revealed that teacher performance and student activity were both rated “good,” learning outcomes improved significantly with an N-Gain of 70% (high category), and student responses were positive. Novelty: The study uniquely combines CTL and ethnoscience in IPAS learning, demonstrating how cultural integration strengthens conceptual understanding. Implications: These findings support the adoption of culturally grounded CTL approaches to foster active participation, improve achievement, and promote meaningful connections between academic content and students’ sociocultural environment. Abstract

General Background: The Pancasila student profile is a crucial element designed to foster desired competencies and strengthen students' internal understanding of diversity in the Indonesian education system. Specific Background: The P5 project reinforces the application of this profile throughout the learning process. Knowledge Gap: While P5 is widely implemented, there is a need to understand how these learning activities specifically affect students' social-emotional intelligence. Aims: This research aims to determine the effectiveness of P5 learning activities and their impact on students' social-emotional intelligence. Using a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Results: The P5 learning, as delivered by the teacher, was well-executed and aligned with the teaching module. However, the program did not yield results that met the criteria for social-emotional intelligence. Novelty & Implications: This finding highlights a discrepancy between the implementation of P5 and its intended social-emotional outcomes, suggesting that while the program is well-structured, its practical application may not be fully optimized to develop students' social-emotional skills. Highlights : P5 implementation at SDN Candipari 1 was well-executed and aligned with the teaching module. The P5 learning activities did not produce results consistent with the criteria for social-emotional intelligence. Abstract

General Background: A lack of literacy skills often makes reading an unpopular and challenging activity, despite its importance for information retrieval and comprehension. Specific Background: To address this, selecting an engaging learning method is crucial to prevent monotony in the educational process. This study focuses on the Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R) method combined with Pop-Up Books as a potential solution. Knowledge Gap: While the SQ3R method is established, its specific application with Pop-Up Books and its effect on elementary students’ reading comprehension has not been thoroughly examined. Aims: This research aims to determine the influence of the SQ3R-based Pop-Up Book learning method on the reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Krembung. Results: Utilizing a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design, the analysis revealed a significant finding. A paired sample t-test showed a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (< 0.05), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis. Novelty: The integration of the SQ3R method with the interactive nature of Pop-Up Books offers a novel approach to enhance reading engagement. Implications: The findings demonstrate that the SQ3R-based Pop-Up Book method is effective in improving the reading comprehension of elementary school students. Highlights: The study found a significant improvement in students' reading comprehension. The research used the SQ3R method combined with Pop-Up Books. Abstract

Background: Student reading comprehension skills are low, and digital learning media is rarely used in the classroom. Aims: This study aims to determine the implications and effects of using Flipbook media on the reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Winong 1 in Indonesian language subjects. Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected through tests and documentation and analyzed using eta squared, normality, and t-tests with SPSS 26. Results: The study found that flipbook media has a positive implication for students' reading comprehension skills and leads to increased student activity during the learning process. This is evidenced by an increase in student learning outcomes, with post-test scores showing an intensification compared to the low pre-test scores. Novelty: This study differs from previous research by specifically using digital flipbook media to measure its effect on reading comprehension skills in a high-grade Indonesian language class, a topic not explored in earlier studies. Implications: The use of digital flipbook media is effective in improving reading comprehension skills. Highlights : The study used a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design on 35 fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Winong 1. After the application of digital flipbook media, the average pre-test score of 40.0% increased significantly to an average post-test score of 82.2%. The use of flipbook media positively influences students' reading comprehension, increases their engagement, and supports their learning outcomes. Abstract

Background: Implementing digital literacy is crucial in elementary schools as it influences students' learning motivation. Therefore, it is important to understand student interest in the implementation of digital learning media, especially in Indonesian language subjects. Aims: This study aims to analyze the learning interests of elementary school students when digital learning media is implemented in Indonesian language lessons. Methods: This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Results: The study provides an understanding of elementary school students' learning interests and highlights the importance of implementing digital literacy in the educational process. Novelty: This research offers a phenomenological perspective on student interest in digital learning, a specific focus that may not be extensively covered in quantitative studies on the topic. Implications: The findings can help educators better understand and implement digital learning media to improve students' learning interest. Abstract

Background : Character education has long been recognized as a key foundation in preparing young generations to face social and moral challenges. Specific Background: In the Indonesian context, the cultivation of religious character is emphasized through daily school practices and values. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have mostly focused on moral or civic character at the secondary level, while little attention has been given to the systematic habituation of religious character in elementary schools. Aims: This study aims to describe the habituation of religious character through school culture at SDN Curahmalang 1 and to identify its supporting and inhibiting factors. Results: Using a qualitative descriptive approach with observation, interviews, and documentation, the study reveals that religious practices such as 5S (smile, greeting, courtesy, respect), daily prayers, gratitude, tolerance, and congregational worship foster students’ religiosity, responsibility, and moral values. Supporting factors include teachers’ roles, parental involvement, and conducive school environments, while limited facilities remain a challenge. Novelty: This research highlights a comprehensive framework for embedding religious character within the culture of elementary schools. Implications: The findings suggest that a collaborative and structured school culture can significantly contribute to holistic character development in early education. Highlights: Daily habituation strengthens students’ religious character. Teachers and parents play a vital collaborative role. School culture provides a sustainable framework for value formation. Abstract

General background: Reading aloud is a fundamental language skill that supports students’ fluency, comprehension, and confidence in communication. Specific background: Despite its importance, many elementary students still face challenges in practicing reading aloud, and limited digital resources have been fully integrated into learning. Knowledge gap: Previous studies have explored digital media for literacy, yet there remains little evidence regarding the role of Literacy Cloud in strengthening reading aloud skills among younger learners. Aims: This study investigates the use of Literacy Cloud as a digital learning medium to improve reading aloud skills among third-grade students at SDN Sentul. Results: A quantitative approach with paired sample t-test analysis revealed a significant improvement in students’ reading aloud performance, with sig. (1-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05 and an eta squared value of 0.93, indicating a large effect. Novelty: The integration of Literacy Cloud in reading instruction provides a digital innovation that directly addresses fluency practice in elementary education. Implications: The findings highlight the importance of adopting digital media in classrooms to foster students’ literacy development, offering practical insights for teachers, policymakers, and curriculum designers in enhancing reading pedagogy through technology. Abstract

General Background: Scientific literacy is a crucial 21st-century skill that enables students to apply scientific knowledge in solving real-life problems. Specific Background: In Indonesia, the results of PISA consistently show low levels of scientific literacy among students, highlighting the need for effective instructional models. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have explored the Learning Cycle 5E model but rarely examined its role in addressing scientific literacy using the Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP) indicators. Aim: This study aimed to investigate the Learning Cycle 5E model in improving scientific literacy among junior high school students. Results: Using a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest, findings revealed an N-gain of 0.6 (moderate category) and no significant differences across classes based on ANOVA (p = 0.126). Analysis of indicators showed improvements with scientific inquiry (70%, good), problem-solving (56%, fairly good), and scientific reasoning (43%, fairly good). Novelty: The study highlights the integration of PCAP indicators into the Learning Cycle 5E framework, providing a structured evaluation of scientific literacy beyond content mastery. Implications: These findings suggest that the 5E model supports active and inquiry-based learning, which can be adapted by teachers to foster better scientific literacy outcomes in junior high schools.
