Abstract

General Background: Vocabulary acquisition is a crucial component of English language learning, particularly in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at vocational high schools. Specific Background: Traditional teaching methods often fail to engage students effectively, leading to poor retention and limited practical application. Knowledge Gap: While various digital tools exist, research on the effectiveness of Wordwall in enhancing vocabulary retention in ESP contexts remains limited. Aims: This study investigates the impact of Wordwall on students' vocabulary acquisition and memory retention. Results: A quasi-experimental study using pre-tests and post-tests on two groups (experimental and control) revealed a significant improvement in vocabulary retention among students using Wordwall. The post-test scores of the experimental group (M=72.5) were significantly higher than the control group (M=58.5), supported by a Wilcoxon test (p<0.05). Novelty: Unlike conventional methods, Wordwall provides an interactive, gamified learning experience that enhances student motivation and engagement. Implications: These findings suggest that integrating Wordwall into ESP instruction can effectively support vocabulary development, promoting better language proficiency and practical communication skills in vocational education. Future research should explore its application across diverse educational settings. Highlights: Interactive Learning Enhances Retention – Wordwall's gamified approach significantly improves vocabulary retention compared to traditional methods. Abstract

General Background: Early childhood education plays a crucial role in cognitive and skill development, where engaging learning methods are essential. Specific Background: Mathematical skills, particularly counting, are fundamental for early learners; however, conventional methods often fail to maintain children's interest. Knowledge Gap: Limited research explores the effectiveness of interactive games in fostering numeracy enthusiasm among preschoolers. Aims: This study aims to investigate the impact of the Snakes and Ladders game on enhancing counting interest in children aged 5–6 years at TK PKK Sendangagung. Results: A classroom action research (CAR) method was employed with 11 students, showing a significant increase in interest—from 7.38% in the pre-cycle to 35.79% in Cycle I and 81.25% in Cycle II. Novelty: Unlike previous studies, this research modifies the traditional Snakes and Ladders game by integrating movement-based learning, aligning with children's natural inclination toward play. Implications: The findings suggest that incorporating interactive and engaging educational tools can effectively boost children's motivation and cognitive development, providing a viable strategy for early childhood educators to enhance numeracy skills through play-based learning. Highlights: Interactive Learning Boosts Interest – The Snakes and Ladders game significantly enhances children's enthusiasm for learning to count, increasing engagement through play. Abstract

General Background: Writing is a crucial communication skill that students must develop, yet many struggle with it. Integrating technology in education has been shown to enhance learning engagement and effectiveness. Specific Background: Traditional methods of teaching writing often fail to capture students' interest, leading to poor writing performance. PowToon, a multimedia-based tool, has gained attention as a potential solution for improving writing skills. Knowledge Gap: While previous studies have explored the effects of PowToon in online learning, research focusing on its impact on junior high school students' writing abilities through quantitative analysis remains limited. Aims: This study examines the effect of PowToon on students' descriptive text writing skills using a pre-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach. Results: The paired sample t-test results (t = 5.910, p < 0.05) indicate a statistically significant improvement in students' writing performance after using PowToon, confirming the effectiveness of this tool in enhancing writing skills. Novelty: Unlike previous studies that used qualitative approaches, this research employs a quantitative method to assess PowToon's impact, providing measurable evidence of its benefits for junior high school students. Implications: The findings suggest that integrating PowToon into writing instruction can enhance students' engagement and learning outcomes, supporting its adoption in language education. Abstract

General Background: Writing in English requires mastery of lexical, compositional, and stylistic components, making it a complex skill for learners to acquire. Specific Background: Many junior high school students struggle with writing due to limited vocabulary and lack of engagement with creative language use. Knowledge Gap: While explicit instruction has been widely used to teach various language skills, its application in developing students’ use of figurative language in writing remains underexplored, particularly at the junior high school level. Aims: This study investigates how explicit instruction in figurative language contributes to improving students’ writing skills. Results: Using a pre-experimental design with 30 eighth-grade students in Sidoarjo, the study recorded an increase in mean scores from 59.5 (pre-test) to 70.67 (post-test), supported by t-test results, indicating statistically significant improvement. Novelty: This research integrates explicit instruction with figurative language teaching, offering a structured approach that enhances both linguistic creativity and writing quality. Implications: The findings suggest that explicit instruction can be a practical strategy for helping students develop stronger, more expressive writing skills, and promote independent application of language in academic and real-life contexts. Abstract

Background: The integration of media in elementary education remains underutilized, limiting opportunities for students to develop essential cognitive skills. Specific Background: Particularly in science education, conventional teaching methods often fail to foster critical thinking among primary school students. Knowledge Gap: Limited empirical studies have examined the role of video-based instructional media in enhancing critical thinking within the context of Indonesian elementary classrooms. Aims: This study investigates the use of video-based learning media in improving fifth-grade students’ critical thinking skills during science lessons on puberty. Results: Utilizing a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test on two groups (n=60), the study found a statistically significant improvement in the experimental group using video media (t=12.331, p<0.001) compared to the control group. The experimental group demonstrated higher gain scores, attributed to engaging delivery, clear visualization, and flexible access to materials. Novelty: This study contributes novel insights into the effectiveness of video-based learning specifically within the Indonesian elementary science education context. Implications: The findings suggest that implementing video media as a teaching tool offers a pedagogical innovation that can support the development of critical thinking skills in young learners and provide practical strategies for educators seeking to enrich science instruction. Abstract

General Background: Education quality is strongly influenced by the teaching methods applied, as they shape students’ understanding and engagement. Specific Background: In Islamic Religious Education and Character Education at SDN Grogol 2 Kediri, conventional methods such as lectures and assignments have led to low student comprehension. Knowledge Gap: Limited studies have explored the application of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model in early grade Islamic education using a classroom action research (CAR) framework. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the application of the TGT model to improve learning outcomes in grade II Islamic Religious Education. Results: Conducted over two CAR cycles involving 30 students, findings showed an increase in the average score from 69.33 (cycle I) with 40% not meeting the minimum criteria, to 77.46 (cycle II) with only 3% not meeting the criteria. Novelty: The research uniquely integrates TGT with structured digital game-based tournaments for Islamic education in early grades. Implications: These results suggest that TGT can serve as an effective and engaging pedagogical approach to improve student performance and participation in Islamic Religious Education at the elementary level. Abstract

General Background: Islamic boarding schools play a crucial role in shaping students’ character and academic growth. Specific Background: However, the motivation of students in these institutions can decline due to monotonous teaching methods and limited program innovations. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have rarely provided a comprehensive analysis combining causal factors, implemented efforts, existing challenges, and future strategic plans to sustain students’ learning motivation in pesantren settings. Aims: This study aims to identify the causes of decreased motivation, evaluate current improvement efforts, explore challenges, and outline future plans to strengthen learning motivation among santri. Results: Findings reveal key causes, including limited teaching variety, monotonous programs, and insufficient parental support. Current initiatives involve consistent guidance, strict discipline, regular monitoring, and beneficial additional programs. Challenges include uncontrollable student behavior, lack of parental involvement, and limited teacher competence. Planned programs focus on service and facility improvement, comparative studies, and inviting educational motivators. Novelty: This study integrates a multi-dimensional perspective—causes, solutions, challenges, and strategic plans—into a single framework for pesantren motivation improvement. Abstract

General Background: Religious education plays a crucial role in early childhood development, fostering foundational skills in Islamic learning. Specific Background: One essential skill is the ability to recite and recognize hijaiyyah letters, including their pronunciation, symbols, and harakat, which for children aged 5–6 years remains at the introductory stage. Knowledge Gap: Conventional methods for teaching hijaiyyah often lack engaging and interactive elements, and limited studies have explored the structured use of tactile media for this age group in a formal early childhood setting. Aims: This study aims to improve the recitation skills of children aged 5–6 years through the use of smart hijaiyyah block media (BACERYAH) at TK Anak Sholeh, Magersari. Results: Using a classroom action research design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, involving 12 children, the study recorded an increase in average achievement from 49% (pre-cycle) to 71% (Cycle I) and 83% (Cycle II). Novelty: This research introduces BACERYAH as a structured, multisensory learning tool that integrates visual, tactile, and repetitive practice in early Islamic literacy. Implications: Findings highlight BACERYAH’s potential as an effective medium for supporting early Quranic literacy, offering educators an engaging approach to strengthen foundational religious education in early childhood settings. Abstract

General Background Science process skills are essential in science education to foster students’ understanding and application of scientific concepts through practical activities. Specific Background In Indonesian junior high schools, practical work is a key strategy to develop these skills, yet many students struggle to achieve optimal competency. Knowledge Gap Limited studies have explored specific obstacles faced by teachers and students during the training of science process skills in real classroom settings, particularly in MTs or equivalent institutions. Aims This study aims to identify the challenges encountered in fostering science process skills among seventh-grade students at MTs Terpadu Mardlatillah. Results Using a qualitative descriptive method with data triangulation (questionnaires, documentation, and interviews) and Miles & Huberman’s analysis model, the study examined eight indicators of science process skills. Findings revealed four main challenges: difficulty in determining variables, absence of experimental setup images, inability to analyze data and draw conclusions, and low confidence in presenting results. Novelty This research provides a detailed mapping of science process skill challenges in the context of Islamic junior high school practical activities, integrating both teacher and student perspectives. Implications Addressing these issues is crucial to prevent further skill gaps and to improve practical science education strategies in similar educational contexts. Abstract

General Background : In the dynamic landscape of modern times, education extends beyond knowledge transfer to creating an optimal environment for child development. Specific Background : A significant challenge in this regard is school bullying, which poses a serious threat to children's mental and emotional well-being. Knowledge Gap : While child-friendly schools are a known solution, there is a need for a new product: a future school completely free of bullying. Aims : This study, using a humanistic approach, aims to develop a new framework for a bullying-free school where students can learn comfortably and joyfully. Results : The research found that creating a child-friendly school requires a multifaceted approach. Key actions include: collaboration between parents and schools, anti-bullying training for teachers, fostering a friendly school atmosphere, designing a beautiful and green environment, and using eco-friendly and child-friendly materials for infrastructure and facilities. Novelty : The novelty lies in proposing a comprehensive model for a bullying-free school as a "second home" for students. Implications : These findings provide a practical roadmap for schools to become safer, more supportive spaces, thereby protecting children's welfare and improving their learning experience. Highlights :  Creating a child-friendly school environment requires a humanistic approach that views children as individuals. Key actions to prevent bullying include collaboration between parents and schools, anti-bullying training for teachers, and creating a friendly school atmosphere.
