Abstract

Radicalism of Islamic politics in Indonesia has been characterized with violence. In the context of DI/TII (Darul Islam/Indonesia Islamic Army), Islamic politics refers to the rebel movements against the Indonesian government in view of both political disappointment and radical religious understanding. This study aims to analyze the adaptation of DI/TII in Islamic education in Olan Hamlet, Garut as the basis of the DI/TII movement. It used a qualitative method based upon primary data obtained from interviews with the Head of Islamic Boarding School Nurul Falah in Olan Hamlet, Garut, community figures, religious figures nearby and government. This study found that the radical Islamic political movement of DI/TII did not undergo any metamorphosis to the Islamic education movements through the Madrasah and Islamic boarding school of Nurul Falah in Olan Hamlet, Garut. In fact, the Islamic boarding school and Madrasah have had some efforts to campaign for moderate religious understanding through the programs and curricula. Hence, there are no worries of government about the emergence of the radical movements in Olan Hamlet. The religious figures, however, still suspect the metamorphosis of DI/TII in this hamlet. Keyword: Radicalism, DI/TII, Islamic Politics

Abstract

This study delves into examining manipulative strategies within the framework of COVID-19 discourse in Indonesia. The research systematically analyzes data from various social media platforms using a descriptive qualitative methodology. The analytical framework draws from speech act theory, argumentative discourse approaches, and manipulation strategy theory. The study’s findings uncover various manipulative tactics that influential figures in Indonesia deploy. These tactics encompass denial, rationalization, diversion, lying, guilt-tripping, and shaming. Notably, the research offers tangible instances of manipulation within the COVID-19 discourse, such as claims suggesting that the virus represents a divine army or that Chinese individuals frequent mosques to learn ablution (wudu). This study is valuable to the expanding literature on COVID-19 discourse and manipulation. It offers nuanced insights into the strategies harnessed to sway public opinion amid a global pandemic. The discerned findings from this study hold significant potential, as they can inform the development of public awareness campaigns and strategies designed to counter the spread of misinformation and disinformation, a critical endeavour in today’s information-rich landscape.

Abstract

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus has doubled globally in the past 40 years, including young adults. This phenomenon was caused by habits, particularly their preferences for snacks and SSBs. Other factors were accessibility, social media influence, and lifestyle changes contributing to the increased consumption of high-sugar foods and drinks. This study was a literature review study. The result of this study is that the lack of public awareness in choosing suitable and halal food was identified as a significant contributor to the high prevalence of diabetes in Indonesia. In addition, it is essential to enhance public knowledge and prevent the escalating diabetes prevalence.

Abstract

This study aims to identify emotions underlying Muslim religious practices/rituals. The sample used in this study consisted of 310 Indonesian Muslim adults from several large cities in Indonesia, using a purposive sampling technique. Participants completed several psychological measurements regarding (1) types of emotions based on Emmons’ theory and (2) religious rituals and contemplative rituals (MAAS). Data was analysed through descriptive statistics and exploratory factor analysis. The results of this study show that the forms of emotion related to Muslim religious practices are emotions of gratitude, security and fear. Emotions of gratitude underlie fasting, such as Ramadhan fasting and Sunnah fasting, zakat and infaq. The emotion of feeling secure underlies forms of worship that are obligatory, such as Daily Prayer. Last, the form of prayer related to feeling secure is the type of prayer intended to obtain Allah’s protection when humans are experiencing disaster, namely Istisqo prayer, Istikharah prayer, and Eclipse prayer.
