Abstract

Abstract

This paper discusses the Islamic politics between the orientation of dakwah and power. Although dakwah was originally synonymous with cultural efforts, but the efforts of those who pull dakwah into the circle of jihad and politics have changed the meaning of the dakwah. In political Islam, dakwah is identical with political purposes of Islam itself, namely the establishment of Sharia and Islamic State. However, the other parties politicize Islam to gain power. According to some people, political parties, including the Islamic party, in Indonesia, politicize Islam rather than fight for Islam.

Abstract

The Sound Horeg phenomenon in East Java has become a social issue that has sparked debates regarding ethics, health, and religious values. This study analyzes the application of Islamic communication ethics in Gus Kautsar's YouTube lectures discussing this phenomenon. Using qualitative methods with content analysis, data were collected from lecture transcripts and analyzed based on six principles of Islamic communication ethics. The research sample was purposively selected from relevant videos of at least 10 minutes in length. The findings indicate that most of the principles of Islamic communication, such as sadidan, ma'rufan, balighan, maysuran, and kariman, are fulfilled, although the principles of layyina are less consistent due to the use of sarcastic humor that can trigger negative perceptions. Gus Kautsar's approach, which combines religious evidence, simple language, local humor, and social criticism, has proven effective in contextually packaging Islamic preaching messages. The contribution of this study lies in enriching the digital Islamic preaching literature, particularly in responding to controversial popular culture with a persuasive approach based on local wisdom. These results are important for developing adaptive, relevant Islamic preaching strategies that remain grounded in Islamic ethical principles to maintain social harmony amidst contemporary cultural dynamics. Abstract

This study examines the perceptions of the Muslim community in Kampung Offie toward the Hajj pilgrimage. It aims to analyze community perceptions based on four aspects: belief, understanding, knowledge, and practice. The research employed a qualitative approach using interviews, observations, and documentation as primary data sources. Data were analyzed through source triangulation. The findings reveal several key points. First, the community’s belief in their ability to perform the Hajj remains relatively low because economic limitations and daily living needs make the pilgrimage a lower priority. However, their spiritual belief remains strong, as they still regard the Hajj as the highest form of worship and a blessing from Allah. Second, the community demonstrates a good understanding of the Hajj, recognizing it as the fifth pillar of Islam and an obligation for Muslims who are financially and physically able. They also view it as a form of spiritual transformation that carries social responsibility. Third, community knowledge about the Hajj varies. Those who have not performed the pilgrimage possess limited knowledge, while those who have performed it demonstrate more comprehensive understanding. Fourth, individuals who have completed the Hajj tend to practice positive social values, while those who have not yet performed it show respect and consider them role models. Overall, religiosity helps maintain positive perceptions despite material limitations. KEYWORDS: public perception ; hajj pilgrimage ; Muslim community ; Offie Village; religiosity.

Abstract

The social reality of indigenous communities facing pressures from social change and modernization has the potential to undermine the sustainability of local traditions while simultaneously generating tensions between religion and culture. This study aims to analyze how da‘wah practices and strategies interact with the Ngasa tradition in the social life of the community, as well as the strategies employed to preserve local wisdom values. The research adopts a qualitative approach with a field research design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using a descriptive–interpretative method through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that cultural da‘wah is carried out in a contextual and dialogical manner by positioning tradition as a medium for the internalization of religious values rather than as an object of rejection. This approach strengthens social harmony, reinforces cultural identity, and sustains the Ngasa tradition amid modernization. These findings underscore the importance of cultural da‘wah as a relevant, inclusive model of religious outreach rooted in the local wisdom of indigenous communities.
