Abstract

This research focuses on dating behavior that begins to imitate western culture and is characterized by promiscuity, even becoming a trend among today's teenagers. This is a defiance for Islamic families because it can lead to adultery. Therefore, communication strategies are needed that can prevent children from dating behavior in Islamic families. This research adopts the five main strategies of gaining compliance from Marwell & Schmitt's (1967) research implemented in dakwah. This research uses a qualitative case study method with data collection techniques through non-participant observation and in-depth interviews by probing and crosschecking. The results showed that in the first strategy, only one family used the strategy of giving gifts. The gifts given are in the form of a simple meal together outside the home as a form of compliance with parents. While other parents use the command strategy; The second strategy, parents provide threats or prohibitions on the use of gadgets, social restrictions, etc.; The third strategy, parental expertise is shown through delivery based on religious arguments, sexual education, and an overview of the negative or positive effects of dating, and parents' dating traditions. This strategy is in line with the da'wah method of al-Mau'idzah al-Hasanah; The fourth strategy, parents educate children a sense of sin if they date as a form of impersonal commitment; The fifth strategy, personal commitment is shown through the status as a child to always be devoted (obedient) to parents.

Abstract

This research assesses the poverty level in Hulu Sungai Utara District through the CIBEST (Centre of Islamic Business and Economic Studies) framework, which integrates both material and spiritual aspects of poverty. The findings indicate that 60% of families are classified as spiritually wealthy, even though they experience material poverty. However, material poverty continues to be a substantial concern, impacting 34.8% of families. The study highlights the importance of a comprehensive strategy for poverty alleviation that considers both material and spiritual aspects of well-being, as spiritual practices play a vital role in providing psychological and social support but have limited impact on addressing material necessities such as education, healthcare, and income opportunities. Addressing systemic economic challenges, including unequal access to resources, insufficient infrastructure, and income disparities, is crucial for alleviating material poverty. Moreover, implementing gender-sensitive policies is essential for tackling income disparities between male and female respondents across various districts. Integrating these dimensions will enable future poverty alleviation strategies to promote more comprehensive and sustainable development.

Abstract

This study examines the intersection of religion, gender, and culture through the case of Voice of Baceprot (VOB), an Indonesian hijab-wearing metal band. Utilizing Kimberlé Crenshaw’s intersectionality theory and Laclau and Mouffe’s discourse analysis, the research analyzes YouTube viewer comments to explore how VOB’s identity as Muslim women metal musicians is constructed and contested. The study employs a qualitative approach, collecting comments from VOB’s most-viewed YouTube videos using Python-based scripts and analyzing them thematically and discursively. This methodology reveals competing narratives: critics perceive the hijab as incompatible with traditional metal aesthetics, while supporters celebrate its role in redefining gender and religious norms in popular music. By navigating these complex discourses, VOB challenges stereotypes within conservative Islamic norms and global metal culture, presenting the hijab as a symbol of personal choice and empowerment. The findings highlight how VOB redefines heavy metal as a global, inclusive genre and demonstrates the power of music to transcend cultural and religious barriers.
