Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the accuracy and SPAN deviation characteristics of a PT-100 (385) temperature transmitter calibration in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. The calibration was performed using a Fluke 726 Precision Multifunction Calibrator as the reference instrument by simulating temperature signals over a range of 0 to 100°C. Measurements were conducted at five calibration points, corresponding to 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the measurement range, with a standard output signal of 4 to 20 mA. The results indicated a maximum deviation of -0.75% at the Upper Range Value (URV), suggesting a reduction in transmitter sensitivity due to SPAN drift. Linearity analysis demonstrated a strong relationship between temperature input and current output, with a coefficient of determination approaching unity, although systematic deviations were observed at several calibration points. Based on the ISO/IEC 17025 acceptance criterion of ±0.5%, the transmitter did not fully satisfy the required accuracy specification. Therefore, recalibration, particularly adjustment of the SPAN parameter, is recommended to improve the reliability and accuracy of the measurement system.

Abstract

The results indicate strong dependence of mayonnaise emulsion stability and quality on optimized homogenization parameters (e.g., rotor-stator operating conditions), but systematic quantitative investigation of these factors remains limited in the scientific literature. A 4 x 3 full factorial experimental design (n = 3) with a 500-Watt high-shear rotor-stator homogenizer evaluated the effects of rotational speed (1200–9000 rpm) and mixing time (5–15 minutes) on emulsion dynamic viscosity, impeller Reynolds number (Re), and visual physical stability. Dynamic viscosity (Re = 12.14) can be directly correlated with emulsification parameters, where the best condition (Run 1) was achieved when stirring at 1200 rpm for 5 minutes, generating a dynamic viscosity of 1512 cP, which is squarely within commercially specified limits (1210–3346.7 cP). At longer mixing times (≥ 10 min) and at higher speeds (≥ 3600 rpm), severe over-processing occurred, decreasing dynamic viscosity to as low as 1010–1182 cP because of both viscous dissipation heating and thermal denaturation of egg proteins. Predicted impeller Reynolds numbers ranged from strictly Re = 1.74 to 77.66, indicating rotor-stator processing of these high-viscosity food emulsions in this configuration spans the laminar-to-transitional regime. Direct processing windows are provided to aid food manufacturers in reducing energy footprints while ensuring batch reproducibility.

Abstract

Stunting in toddlers is a chronic nutritional problem that can impede physical growth and cognitive development; therefore, early detection is crucial to prevent long-term impacts. This study compared Random Forest and Gradient Boosting algorithms for classifying stunting risks in toddlers. The comparison of both algorithms was conducted to determine the model with better performance in classifying stunting status into four categories: severely stunted, stunted, normal, and tall. Testing was performed using the Percentage Split method (80% training data and 20% testing data) and 10-Fold Cross Validation. Model performance was measured based on accuracy, precision, and recall metrics. The results showed that the Random Forest algorithm produced better and more consistent performance compared to Gradient Boosting across both testing methods. In the Percentage Split method, Random Forest achieved an accuracy of 95.43%, meaning the model was able to accurately predict stunting status in a single test data split, whereas Gradient Boosting only achieved 85.68%, indicating a higher prediction error rate. In the 10-Fold Cross Validation method, Random Forest maintained an accuracy of 94.89%, meaning the model remained consistent despite being repeatedly tested using varied data subsets, while Gradient Boosting decreased to 77.47%, indicating that the model was unstable and sensitive to data variations. Additionally, Random Forest demonstrated stable precision and recall values above 90% across all stunting categories, particularly for the normal and tall categories. In conclusion, the Random Forest algorithm is more effective in classifying stunting risks in toddlers than the Gradient Boosting algorithm.

Abstract

The thermoelectric generator combined with the superheat air conditioner experiences differences. the results of the design and construction of a thermoelectric generator (TEG) based electrical energy generation system has been used to utilizes waste heat from superheat air conditioner (AC) between the compressor and condenser. This system uses an aluminum plate measuring 20 cm long, 8 cm wide and 0.8 cm thick which has been modified with five ¼ inch pipe grooves to accommodate the TEG and store heat. The cooling system used is heatsink measuring 20 cm long, 8 cm wide, and fin thickness 0.2 cm. Testing was carried out using TEG type SP-1848-27145 SA connected in series with variations of 2, 6 and 10 modules, with a combination of condensate water cooler and fan on the heatsink. The measurement results show that 2 TEGs produce electrical energy of 1898 mV, 26 mA, and 51,07 mW of power at ΔT 34.4°C; 6 TEGs produce 2747 mV, 13,5 mA, and 371,601 mW of power at ΔT 35.5°C; and 10 TEGs produce the highest electrical energy of 2681 mV, 15,1 mA, and 405,024 mW of power at ΔT 34.5°C. These results indicate that increasing the number of TEG modules provides an increase in the electrical energy produced.

Abstract

The Hydrocracker Unit at XYZ company plays an important role in converting heavy hydrocarbon fractions into higher-value products. During Carbon Bed Adsorber (CBA) replacement and activation, bottom fractionator products were previously discharged entirely to the slop system, resulting in product loss and reduced process profitability. This study evaluated the implementation of the New Operation Valve Arrangement (NOVA) as an engineering modification to improve bottom product recovery during CBA activation. The study was conducted in June 2025 at the Hydrocracker Unit of XYZ company. NOVA was installed on the bottom fractionator-to-slop line to separate activation fluid from bottom product flow and maintain product transfer to the feed tank during activation. Performance was evaluated by comparing operating conditions before and after implementation using flow indicator data, process operating parameters, mass balance calculations, and product distribution analysis based on distillation temperature range. The results showed that NOVA successfully recovered 2,315.72 barrels of bottom product that had previously been discharged to the slop tank. The recovered product was returned as recycle feed and further converted through hydrocracking into higher-value products, primarily diesel and kerosene. The economic benefit reached approximately IDR 3.55 billion for each activation cycle under start-of-run conditions. In addition, the innovation reduced manual operator intervention in elevated areas and lowered occupational risk from high to low. The study confirms that NOVA is an effective and practical engineering solution for improving bottom product conversion efficiency, increasing refinery profitability, and enhancing operational safety. This innovation also shows strong potential for application in similar refinery processing units.

Abstract

A construction project may experience delays that could result in the project being completed late; therefore, acceleration is needed to optimize time and estimate the resulting cost increases. One method that can be used to optimize duration and costs is the Time-Cost Trade-Off (TCTO) method. In this method, changes in the project’s completion time will also affect the costs incurred. For the construction project of the Budi Mulia Hospital inpatient building in Bitung, planning was carried out by adding overtime hours. This study aims to identify the most optimal scenario among three options: extending the work duration by 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours. As can be seen from the table and graph above, I conclude that the scenario involving a 2-hour extension is the most optimal for this project because the difference in duration between the 2-hour extension and the normal schedule is 11 working days, with a total cost difference of Rp161,280,998; therefore, I choose the 2-hour extension. The reason I did not choose the 3-hour workday option is that, although the project would be completed 4 days earlier and the cost for the 3-hour extension is Rp147,607,753, when compared to the 2-hour extension, the duration difference is 4 days, but the cost increase is Rp13,673,244; therefore, I chose the scenario with a 2-hour extension (overtime).

Abstract

Selecting a study program specialization at Muhammadiyah Higher Education institutions in Lampung Province is a crucial step for students in determining their academic expertise and future career prospects. However, students often face difficulties in choosing a concentration that aligns with their academic abilities and personal interests, frequently resulting in a mismatch of specialization. This research aims to develop a web-based Decision Support System (DSS) for selecting study program specializations using the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method. The Waterfall model is employed for system development, encompassing stages such as requirements analysis, system design, coding, and testing. The SAW method is applied to determine preference weights for each criterion, thereby ranking the best specialization alternatives based on prerequisite course grades and student interest questionnaires. The system is designed using PHP and a MySQL database to ensure flexible user accessibility. The research findings are expected to provide students with objective and accurate specialization recommendations, thereby minimizing decision-making errors. Furthermore, the system is intended to assist study programs within Muhammadiyah Higher Education institutions in Lampung Province in managing the distribution of student concentrations more systematically, objectively, and efficiently through an integrated digital platform.

Abstract

Reliable water-level monitoring in public facilities is essential to support effective water management and ensure the availability of water in storage tanks. This study aims to design and evaluate a wireless water-level monitoring system based on an ESP32 microcontroller and a waterproof JSN-SR04T ultrasonic sensor, implemented at the Al Bayan Mosque, Politeknik Negeri Lhokseumawe. The proposed system adopts a master–slave architecture, in which the ESP32 Slave performs sensor data acquisition and processing, while the ESP32 Master receives and processes measurement data transmitted via Bluetooth. The system was evaluated over a measurement range of 25–200 cm through initial sensor characterization, linear regression-based calibration, water-level measurement testing, and Bluetooth communication performance testing using Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) and packet loss as evaluation parameters. The results demonstrate that sensor calibration significantly improved measurement accuracy, reducing the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) from 1.811 cm to 0.216 cm and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) from 2.035 cm to 0.254 cm, corresponding to improvements of 88.07% and 87.53%, respectively. Following calibration, the sensor exhibited a relative error ranging from 0.00% to 0.60%. Water-level testing produced an MAE of 0.514%, an RMSE of 0.612%, a mean relative error of 1.465%, and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.99988. However, the maximum relative error of 6.88% occurred at a low water level of 12.50%. Bluetooth communication testing achieved a PDR of 100% with 0% packet loss up to a distance of 11 m, both under Line-of-Sight (LOS) conditions and with one wall as an obstruction. These results indicate that the proposed system provides accurate water-level measurement and reliable wireless data transmission, making it suitable for real-time water-tank monitoring applications.

Abstract

Pedestrian facilities are essential infrastructure that supports safe and comfortable walking, particularly in commercial areas. Pangeran Antasari Street in Tulungagung Regency is a one-way street dominated by commercial and service activities. Its current condition features damaged sidewalks, insufficient width, faded road markings, and a lack of facilities for people with disabilities. This study aims to (1) describe pedestrian characteristics, (2) assess the adequacy of pedestrian facilities based on applicable technical standards, (3) analyze road user satisfaction levels using the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) and Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) methods, and (4) analyze the Level of Service (LOS) of pedestrian facilities. Data were analyzed descriptively, as well as through IPA, CSI, and LOS calculations. The results indicate that pedestrians are predominantly aged 15–24 years (50%), female (55%), those with D3/S1/S2/S3 education levels (54%), employed as workers (41%), with incomes below Rp 2.628.190 (52%), and whose travel purpose was solely to pass through or head to a culinary hub (21%). Pedestrian facilities available along this entire segment include traffic signs, street lighting, trash bins, and shade trees, whereas facilities that are absent include tactile paving for the disabled, ramps, bollards, and bus stops. User satisfaction assessment using the IPA method yielded a conformity index (Tki) of 71.8%, while the CSI method produced a score of 60.63%. The level of service (LOS) is categorized as A (excellent) based on flow, space, and ratio aspects, whereas based on the speed aspect, the LOS varies from A to E.

Abstract

The utilization of Rice Husk Ash (RHA) as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in Portland Composite Cement (PCC) mortar offers a sustainable approach to reducing cement consumption, mitigating CO₂ emissions, and valorizing agricultural waste. However, the effectiveness of RHA is influenced by the curing regime, which governs hydration and pozzolanic reactions, thereby affecting the microstructure and mechanical performance of mortar. This study investigates the influence of RHA substitution and curing methods on the mechanical properties and microstructure of PCC mortar. Mortar specimens were prepared with RHA replacement levels of 0%, 10%, and 20% by weight of cement and cured under water curing and air curing conditions. Fresh mortar workability, compressive strength, flexural strength, and microstructural characteristics were evaluated using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The results indicate that increasing RHA content reduced mortar workability; therefore, superplasticizer dosages of 1.0% and 1.5% were incorporated to maintain adequate consistency. At 28 days, 10% RHA under air curing reduced compressive strength by approximately 2% relative to the control mixture, whereas 20% RHA reduced it by 20%. In contrast, water curing with 10% RHA enhanced compressive strength by approximately 2%, while 20% RHA showed no improvement over the control. Flexural strength decreased under both curing regimes as the RHA replacement level increased. SEM and FTIR results indicated that water curing promoted a denser microstructure and increased hydration product formation at 10% RHA replacement, leading to improved mechanical properties relative to specimens subjected to air curing
