Abstract

The study aims to explain the role of the hashtags #BubarkanMUI and #DukungMUI in getting support for digital opinion, and the comparison of the hashtags #BubarkanMUI. The results have revealed, first, the importance of hashtags in the digital opinion movement (DMO). This success is based on the narration of tweets that are uploaded more emotionally. Second, the digital opinion movement carried out by the hashtags #bubarkanMUI and #supportMUI is a movement that occurs spontaneously, unorganized, homogeneous, and has many actors involved within the movement. Third, the hashtags #bubarkanMUI and #dukungMUI generally use the same pattern: (a) in terms of thematic aspects, although some posted tweets do not describe the two hashtags, (b) schematic aspects or sentence structure, tweets posted on both hastags unwell- structured, (c) the meanings of the posted tweets show the side of disappointment (#bubarkan MUI) and a defense of the existence of MUI (#dukungMUI ), so the impression of the two hashtags is contesting to win public opinion.

This paper examines deradicalization programs from the former terrorism prisoners’ narratives on Sofyan Tsauri’s YouTube channel. Through library research and data collection from digital sources using a phenomenological approach, this paper argues that Sofyan Tsauri becomes an influencer in combating radicalization through his YouTube channel which explains matters related to radicalism, extremism, terrorism, and peace that are likely to have resonance in various locations. Further, Sofyan Tsauri's move has become a vehicle for former terrorists to talk about terrorists from their perspective to overcome various barriers to knowledge hegemony. This article suggests that other terrorists and former convicts are expected to be able to replicate such methods of da'wah in the digital era that are friendly to millennials.

Abstract

This research examines the religious communication strategy (da'wah) carried out by the 'Ngaji Asyik Ahad Malam' community at the Street Cafe Esemday, Mojosongo District, Surakarta City. Using qaualitative methods with an ethnographic approach, the results of this study show that millennials Muslims, those who join 'Ngaji Asyik Sunday Malam' tend to be less interested in the religious activities held in the formal and conventional manner, which require attending religious places such as mosques, mushalla, or Qur'an Learning Place (TPQ). However, millennials currently are more like religious activities that are elaborated in contemporary public spaces. In other words, they need the presence of innovative concepts for religious activities that are relevant and able to understand the millennial culture, and do not discredit them as well.

Abstract

This research aims to examine how two religious organizations, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah, have constructed their collective identity through online media coverage about the discourse of preventing and addressing sexual violence (PPKS). In this regard, this research analyses news stories published by NU.or.id and Muhammadiyah.or.id regarding PPKS discourse. Using a qualitative textual analysis method with thematic analysis and rhetorical analysis approach, the findings have revealed that NU and Muhammadiyah construct their collective identities as da'wah movements, civil society organizations, and cultural groups. As da'wah movements, NU and Muhammadiyah have conveyed their ideas about sexual violence rooted from Islamic values. As a civil society organization, NU has shown symbolic actions that utilize social capital, while Muhammadiyah has expressed through organization programs. As a cultural group, NU has used cultural memory in the form of istigasah kubra, sowan tradition, and Islamic boarding school activities. Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah has used cultural memory in the form of symbols of da'wah works, schools, and campuses to represent itself as a community service and da’wah movement.

Abstract

This research endeavors to understand KH Hasyim Asyari's thoughts regarding wasatiyah da'wah. This study used a textual analysis method with a qualitative content analysis approach. In this regard, the heritage texts (turath) written by KH Hasyim Asyari and the text of a commentator (copyist) of Kiai Hasyim's ideas regarding wasatiyah preaching were inventoried, studied, then analyzed thematically. The results of this study illustrate that KH. Hasyim Asyari used the da'wah method bil-hikmah like when he was convincing Karl von Smith, the architect from Dutch, to convert to Islam. Additionally, he employed da'wah method bil-qalam through writing dozens of books, including those compiled in the title 'Irsyad Al Sari fi Jami Mushannafal al Syaikh Hasyim Asyari'. Further, in preaching wasatiyah, Kiai Hasyim argued that the difference of opinions among Muslims is not on the issue of usuluddin, but rather on furu' al-din, so that the differences with regard to schools of thought should not make Muslim society divided.
