Abstract

cannot break away from the ideological background or vi–sion of their own umbrella institution, so that the construc–tion of reality just follows the interest each has. By using Gamson’s and Modigliani’s tools of framing analysis, this paper analyzes how three Islamic media, namely arrahmah. com, voa-islam.com and hidayatullah.com, construct the re–ligious conflicts that occurred in Indonesia from 2011 to early 2012 in their own news-making. The results suggest that in news-making of religious conflicts, those three online media tended to do news-framing vulgarly, sarcastically, and provocatively.Keywords: online Islamic media, news, religious conflict, framing.---------------------------------------------------------------------------Ketika media memberitakan peristiwa atau isu tertentu, seringkali media tidak dapat melepaskan diri dari latar ideologi atau visi lembaga, sehingga konstruksi atas realitas yang terbangun juga cenderung mengikuti perspektif yang dimiliki masing-masing media. Dengan menggunakan analisis framing dari Gamson dan Modigliani, tulisan ini mengulas bagaimana tiga media Islam online, yakni arrahmah.com, voa-islam.com dan hidayatullah.com meng–konstruksi atau mengemas pemberitaan seputar konflik keagamaan di Indonesia dalam kurun 2011 hingga awal 2012. Hasil studi ini menyatakan bahwa dalam melakukan pewartaan atau membuat berita konflik keagamaan, ketiga media online tersebut telah melakukan pembingkaian (fra–ming) yang cenderung vulgar, sarkas dan provokatif.Kata Kunci: media Islam online, berita, konflik keagamaan, framing.

Abstract

Tremendous changes of society in practicing their religious teachings require the modifications in proselytizing techniques. This paper explains how the proselytizing is to be delivered effectively in the modern era. It suggests that there are four principles of proselytizing in the contemporary era. First, consider the proselytizing as a science and research object to meet the needs of society. Second, change the paradigm of proselytizing into Islamic communication science by synthesizing theories of communication with da’wah theories based on Islamic teachings. Third, upgrade your knowledge of preaching and your skills of imple–mentting information technology in proselytizing. Fourth, utilize a variety of popular communication media as much as possible.Keywords: paradigm of da’wah science, modern technology, social changes, Muslim cleric.--------------------------------------------------------------------------Tulisan ini berupaya menjelaskan bagaimana cara berdakwah yang cerdas di era modern, dan berpendapat bahwa ada empat hal yang bisa dilakukan dalam berdakwah di era kontemporer, yakni pertama, menjadikan dakwah sebagai objek ilmu yang dapat diteliti dan dikembangkan sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan tuntutan masyarakat. Kedua, mengubah paradigma ilmu dakwah menjadi ilmu komuni–kasi Islam dengan cara mensintesiskan teori-teori ilmu komunikasi dengan teori-teori dakwah yang bersumber dari ajaran Islam. Ketiga, menyiapkan da’i yang mampu ber–adaptasi dengan perkembangan IPTEK. Keempat, meman–faatkan berbagai media komunikasi dan informasi yang ba–nyak dipergunakan oleh masyarakat.Kata Kunci: paradigm ilmu dakwah, teknologi modern, perubahan masyarakat, da’i.

Abstract

Propagation (da’wah) is an activity inherent within all religions. Muja>dalah is one of the methods that exist in the propagation of Islam. This article discusses the ethics of muja>dalah in da'wah according to the Qur'an. The ethics of muja>dalah can be defined as a standard value to refer in efforts to strengthen the arguments held for specific purposes. This paper argues that the propaganda with good muja>dalah method can go through a good dialogue, without any pressure on mad'u (communicants). The muja>dalah, it further argues, should use logical arguments, friendly attitude, full of compassion, and not with any violence and arrogance.Keywords: ethic of mujadalah, a-Qur'an, logical argument.---------------------------------------------------------------------------Dalam setiap agama, dakwah merupakan salah satu bagian yang mesti ada di dalamnya. Muja>dalah merupakan salah satu metode dakwah dalam Islam. Artikel ini membahas secara detil etika muja>dalah dalam berdakwah menurut konsep al-Qur’an. Etika muja>dalah disini merupakan standar nilai yang dijadikan acuan dalam usaha memperkuat pernyataan yang dipersoalkan dengan menggunakan argumentasi dan tujuan tertentu. Tulisan ini berargumentasi bahwa muja>dalah menurut al-Qur’an adalah metode dakwah dengan menggunakan dialog yang baik, tanpa tekanan terhadap mad’u (komunikan), tanpa menghina dan menjelek-jelekkan mereka. Muja>dalah harus dilakukan dengan menggunakan argumentasi logis, sikap lemah lembut, penuh kasih sayang, serta tidak dengan menggunakan kekerasan dan arogansi.Kata Kunci: etika muja>dalah, al-Qur’an, argumentasi logis.

Abstract

The so-called religious songs are increasingly recognized and positively responded by many, both children and adult. They then become an alternative trend in prose–lytizing, in addition to lecturing. Wali is a musical group in Indonesia that has a commitment to spread Islamic religious symbols through the lyrics of its songs. By using descriptive analysis, this article examines the song entitled Cari Berkah by the group as a strategy of proselytizing communication. The study results show that the song has delivered a positive message in accordance with Islamic law, as the group leads the listeners to become aware of the importance of helping each other.Keywords: song lyric, proselytizing strategy, wali band, des–criptive analysis.------------------------------------------------------------------------dan digemari oleh banyak kalangan, mulai dari anak-anak hingga orang tua. Kini berdakwah melalui lagu merupakan tren alternatif, selain berceramah. Wali adalah sebuah grup musik dalam negeri yang memiliki komitmen untuk mela–kukan syiar agama melalui lirik lagu-lagunya. Melalui analisis deskriptif, artikel ini membahas lagu Cari Berkah karya Band Wali sebagai strategi komunikasi dakwah. Hasil studi menyatakan bahwa lagu Cari Berkah yang dibuat oleh Wali mewakili pesan yang positif sesuai dengan syariat Islam, karena Band Wali ingin mengajak pendengarnya untuk lebih menyadari akan arti pentingnya hidup saling tolong menolong antar sesama.Kata Kunci: syair lagu, strategi dakwah, band wali, analisis deskriptif.

Abstract

This article discusses the position of proselytizing in the middle of the media industry and how this prose–lytizing should be undertaken. This paper argues that the religious contents of publication and broadcast by the mass media tend to be commodified in order to meet the needs of the society, while people use the media for entertainment purposes only. As a result, the content of religion in the media cannot be separated from the element of entertainment. Religion in the media tends to become merely the point entertainment, so that the element of proselytizing and motivation to raise religious awareness tends to be neglected. The purpose of the media as a medium of information, education, edu–tainment, and a tool of social cohesion have not been rea–lized in the current era.Keywords: proselytizing, media industry, media content, the structuration of religion.------------------------------------------------------------------------Artikel ini membahas bagaimana posisi dakwah di tengah industri media dan bagaimana dakwah harus dila–kukan. Tulisan ini berpendapat bahwa konten agama yang dimuat dan ditayangkan oleh media massa cenderung sebagai komoditi untuk memenuhi kebutuhan masyarakat. Sementara masyarakat memanfaatkan media sebagai alat untuk memperoleh hiburan belaka. Alhasil, konten agama dalam media tidak dapat dilepaskan dari unsur hiburan. Agama di media menjadi materi hiburan belaka, sehingga unsur dakwah dan motivasi untuk memunculkan kesadaran beragama menjadi terabaikan. Tujuan media sebagai media informasi, edukasi, hiburan yang mendidik, dan sebagai alat perekat sosial menjadi gagasan yang melangit dan belum terwujud di era demokratisasi media saat ini.Kata Kunci: dakwah, industri media, konten media, strukturasi agama.

Abstract

Proselytizing activities in Indonesia have been predominantly based on two approaches, structural and cultural. This article discusses the synergy of the two main–stream approaches, which can be called a collaborative method in proselytizing. It argues that this collaborative approach is able to cover up the weaknesses of the dicho–tomy in structural and cultural propagation. In addition, this collaborative approach can be made use of to deal with different kinds of society; all the more so as lately fundamentalists conduct aggressive movements, challe–nging moderate Islam in this country. The collaborative approach is expected to be an alternative option for optimizing the out-put of proselytizing.Keywords: collaborative proselytizing, structural and cultural approaches, synergy.--------------------------------------------------------------------------Aktivitas dakwah di Indonesia saat ini didominasi oleh dua pendekatan, yakni struktural dan kultural. Artikel ini membahas sinergi dua mainstream pendekatan ter–sebut, yang disebut dakwah kolaboratif. Tulisan ini ber–pendapat bahwa pendekatan dakwah kolaboratif mampu menutupi kelemahan pendekatan struktural dan kultural yang dilakukan secara dikotomis. Selain itu, dakwah kolaboratif dianggap lebih mampu masuk ke seluruh ranah masyarakat. Apalagi belakangan ini kelompok fundamen–talis melakukan gerakan-gerakan agresif yang mengkha–watirkan keberlangsungan penyebaran paham Islam moderat di negeri ini. Pendekatan dakwah kolaboratif ini diharapkan mampu menjadi pilihan alternatif untuk optimalisasi out-put dakwah.Kata Kunci: dakwah kolaboratif, pendekatan structural dan kultural, sinergi.

Abstract

Public Speaking atau berbicara di depan umum adalah bagian yangtidak lepas dari perjalan peradaban umat manusia, Oleh karenanya dalam sejarahnya, public speaking merupakan sesuatu yang sangat berperan penting dalam mengubah keberadaan peradaban manusia. Betapa tidak, kekuatan para orator dalam berbicara di depan umum telah mampu mengubah mood, kondisi psikologis dan pada akhirnya mampu memengaruhi pikiran dan mengubah perilaku para audien. Hitler misalnya, ia telah mampu mengubah tatanan peradaban dunia dengan kebijakan tangan besinya yang tergambar dari setiap orasinya yang berkobar-kobar.

Abstract

Abstract: The study aims to contribute to the current under–standing of how audiences make use of religious programs broadcasted in both religious satellite channels (RSCs) and Arabic satellite channels. 210 respondents were surveyed to address the nature of exposure to RSCs and religious pro–grams, motives, and attitudes toward them. Utilizing uses and effect approach and Hall’s encoding and decoding model of media discourses, this study confirms a high expo–sure to RSCs among adult television viewers in Yemen. Of religious contents, Islamic lectures particularly represent the most watched program by respondents. It also states that emotional effects represent the prominent effects of religious programs uses followed by normative, and limited beha–vioral effects.Keywords: religious programs, uses and effects approach, Hall's encoding/decoding model, Yemeni audience.

Abstract

Abstract: This article explores discussion on how the manager of Jawa Post, Surya, and Surabaya Post perceive the existence of public space in the reform era. Through in-depth interviews to the managers and editors of the newspaper, the study finds that there is a change in several aspects of how the public space is displayed in those newspapers. The changes are in the concept, format and material. The changes occurred are caused predominantly by economic considerations influenced by the impact of media industrialization. At the same time, the change occurred also causes degradation of the status and value of public space as it is no longer perceived as prestigious but in fact perceived as a “junk”.Keywords: public space, newspaper, the industrialization of media, editorial policy

Abstract

Abstract: This paper deals with Islamic feminism within the Indonesian religious moving picture Ketika Cinta Bertasbih 2 (KCB). Using semiotic approach, the study shows that the depiction of women’ lives in this film has a different way to the classical western film narrative structures which tend to explore women bodies as an object of masculine desire, as well as Indonesian religious (Islamic) films which commonly depict stereotypical portrayal of women as passive, inexpressive and dependent. Furthermore, this film can be considered as the representation of post-traditional Islam feminist, which seeks to deconstruct the ideology of the Javanese women through re-interpreting Islamic teachings in line with contemporary social realities and traditions.Keywords: religious film, woman representation, Islamic post-traditionalism, semiotics
