Abstract

Human resource input in higher education is required to have high order thinking skills (HOTS) which includes the ability to analyze, evaluate and create material. Thus, the existence of the college entrance test is one of the important instruments in selecting human resources. This article aims to explore the HOTS map on the Entrance Examination for State Islamic Religious Higher Education (UM-PTKIN) in the material of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in 2018 and the comparison of HOTS levels in the PAI material group examination. This article is also supported by the results of a literature review. The results of the study show that the UM-PTKIN item on PAI material spreads in the HOTS category and low-level thinking skills (LOTS). Akidah Akhlak Subject is the largest contributor and Al-Quran-Hadith as the lowest contributor to the HOTS category questions. The Islamic Religious Education Study Program (PAI) is a study program that is in great demand and its graduates are highly awaited to be able to sow Islamic understanding to answer various social, political and religious challenges in Indonesia. This article provides recommendations for UM-PTKIN policy makers to be able to increase the number of HOTS question compositions in subsequent selections in order to improve the quality of PAI student input in the following periods.

Abstract

Human uses symbol in its communication activity. The symbol can manifest in verbal and non-verbal things. Original culture of a society defines the way how they communicate and the symbol they use. The society of desa Nepa is not an exception. They have used a symbol in performing their local tradition, Rokat Tase’. The symbol used in Rokat Tase’ is a non-verbal symbol of communication, which is manifested in actions and delivery of foods and goods (sesaji). This article discusses the Tradisi Rokat Tase’ and its meaning within the society of desa Nepa. Using bibliographical and empirical inversitigation, this article argues that the main meaning and aim of that symbol is to pray and hope that God (Allah) protects the society in general and sailors in particular. That is also to prevent the occurrence of disaster and calamity and to ask for prosperity and for abundant fishes from sailing. It also stresses that the meaning of this symbol is reached within society’s interaction process and is agreed by all the parties involved in the interaction.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the institutionalization of Islam in Java, which is the work of coastal Islamic communities, particularly the envoys or Sufis who collaborated with local coastal traditions. As a result of document studies, it can be seen that the institutionalization of Islam in Java was a long process carried out by envoys spreading Islam. Among the efforts made were through da’wah or the spread of Islam individually by agents of the spread of Islam, and then jointly establishing the kingdom and becoming more structured with the establishment of Islamic educational institutions or pesantren. The Islam produced in this long process is Islam in its acculturative or collaborative style, namely the practice of Islamic teachings in harmony with local traditions. Even though there have been changes for the sake of change, the principal teachings in Islam have not changed except for teachings that are instrumental in nature. One of the greatest attributes in the process of coastal Islamization is the creation of understanding and practice of religion in a moderate style.

Echoing the political narrative of humanity which is the spirit of politics, until finally a soothing social and digital media climate is created without any negative tendencies that become seeds of discrimination and conflict when elections come.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the lives of retired women and technology are often overlooked. They are a group that is vulnerable to the digital divide. This study explores the digital technology asset into the everyday lives of retired women living in the Rewwin Residence Community in Waru, Sidoarjo, Indonesia. This study aims to understand how digital devices and platforms support and enhance spiritual and cultural practices in this community. This study uses qualitative methodologies with the approach used in ABCD/Asset Base Community Development to find and utilize their assets. The findings highlight the digital assets’ sense of asset ownership, physical, social, and human assets, and the wealth of religious and spiritual content. Understanding asset ownership has bridged and facilitated access to religious content, strengthened and fostered a sense of togetherness and belonging among their community, and offers insights into how digital practices can complement and enrich traditional cultural and spiritual practices in their everyday life stages. This study contributes to a broader understanding of contemporary Indonesian society’s relationship between assets, technology, aging, and cultural sustainability.
