Abstract

PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS APPRAISAL OF LOCAL AND IMPORTED RACE HORSES FEED IN MINAHASA The present study was conducted to determine the physical characteristics and nutrient content of racehorse diets both local and imported feed used mostly by race horse breeders in Minahasa region. Race horse breeding management in Indonesia fully adopts methods used in developed countries. Race horse breeders in Minahasa have been practicing of using oats as an imported ingredient to replace local feed rice. This is due to the lack of further testing of local feed, so that race horse breeders practice and rely on using imported feed ingredients to feed their horses just before the horse racing.  A survey method was used to collect data, using interviews and direct observations on several race horses breeding farms. Types and amount of feed (forage and concentrates) both local and imported given to race horse were taken about 500gr for samples analysis. Data were statistically analyzed using t-test. The results showed that the nutrient content of imported feed ingredients significantly higher (P <0.05) compared with local feed. Physical characteristics (color, flavour, shape, and texture) of local food (rice) was significantly different (P <0.05) from that of imported feed (oats). It can be concluded that the nutrient content of imports feed is higher than that of local feed, and physical characteristics of oat and rice, different in colour, shape, aroma, and texture, on the other hand, oat and rice have the same physical shape. Abstract

DETERMINATION OF NITROGEN RETENTION AND METABOLIC ENERGY OF BANANA PEELS (Musa paradisiaca) FERMENTATION WITH Rhizopus oligosporus ON BROILER RANSOM. Banana peel is a waste that has the potential to be used as feed because it is abundant and has the nutrients needed by livestock. This study aims to determine protein consumption, nitrogen retention value (RN) and nitrogen-corrected metabolic energy (AMEn) value of broiler rations containing unfermented plantain peel flour and fermented broiler rations with Rhizopus oligosporus mold. This research was conducted using 20 broilers of strain Arbor Acres CP 707 aged 5 weeks. The design used was Student's t-test which consisted of 2 treatments, each treatment consisting of 10 broilers as replications. The rations used in this study were rations containing plantain peel flour without fermentation and rations containing fermented plantain peel flour with Rhizopus oligosporus mold. The results of the analysis of diversity showed that the treatment between no fermentation and fermentation was significantly different for protein consumption (P <0.05), nitrogen retention was significantly different (P <0.05) and the value of metabolic energy was significantly different (P <0.05). The T-Student test results for the protein consumption value of nitrogen retention values showed that the treatment without fermentation was 63.59% and 71.87% fermented products with Rhizopus oligosporus mold. The metabolic energy values in the treatment without fermentation were 2336.6 Kcal / kg and 2732.4 Kcal / kg in fermentation products with Rhizopus oligosporus mold. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the use of fermented plantain peel products with Rhizopus oligosporus in broiler rations can increase protein consumption, nitrogen retention, and metabolic energy of broiler chickens.Key words: plantain peel, fermentation, Rhizopus oligosporus, broiler chicken.

Abstract

UTILIZATION OF MANURE DEGRADED BY BLACKFLIES LARVAE (HERMETIA ILLUCENS L) ON THE PERFORMANCE OF LAYING NATIVE CHICKEN. Native chicken is one of the livestocks that have been widely used for source of protein. It has already been maintained everywhere in Indonesia. Native chickens is widely kept for eggs because it contains good nutrients for human beings. One of the source of rations for native chicken is manure flour from the degradation of the blackflies larvae (MHD flour). This feed material contains a good nutritional value for this chicken. In this study the results of the degradation of manure blackflies larvae processed into flour and added into the rations with the aim to know the consumption of rations, egg production and rations conversion of native chicken. 40 native chickens females aged 56 weeks had been used.Baterry system cages of 50x50x75 cm in size was used to kept the native chickes. Placement of chicken in each unit was done randomly. A randomized complete design (RAL) with 4 treatment and 5 replications was used as design methods (Steel and Torrie, 1991). Each replication using native chickens age 56 weeks with the following treatments: R0 = 0% flour MHD: R1 = 5% flour MHD: R2 = 10% flour MHD: R3 = 15% flour MHD. The variable measured is the sum of rations consumption, egg production and rations conversion. The results obtained showed that there was highly significant difference (P < 0.01)between treatmentsandrations consumption, egg production, and there was no significant difference (P > 0.05) between treatmens and rations conversion. It can be concluded that as much as 15% of the MHDcan be used in chicken rations. Keywords: Native Chicken, Black Flies, MHD flour.
