Abstract

Disease, illness and death have been a human being’s constant companion right from the dawn of civilization and Pandemics are a part of this fatal manifestation which has been witnessed century upon century, successfully wreaking havoc upon the unsuspecting mankind. A pandemic (from Greek - pan, meaning "all" and demos meaning "people") is an epidemic of an infectious disease that has spread across a large region, spreading through continents and killing with impunity as it spreads. Throughout human history, there have been a number of pandemics of diseases such as smallpox and tuberculosis. The most fatal pandemic in recorded history was the Black Death (also known as The Plague), which killed an estimated 75–200 million people in the 14th century. Other notable pandemics include the 1918 pandemic, the Spanish influenza (Spanish flu). The current pandemics include Covid19 and HIV AIDS. The history of pandemic has been recorded meticulously by playwrights, novelists and poets from time immemorial – the documentation is detailed and, on some occasions, laboured. The message conveyed is very clear – the pandemic is brutal, it spares no one and the only way to remain safe is through isolation and timely medical intervention. This Paper seeks to examine the philosophical ramifications of pandemics examined through the literary lens.

Abstract

In a preliminary study conducted on 35 students at Universitas Negeri Semarang, it was found that a majority of respondents (97.1%) were female, aged 19-24 years. The study showed that all respondents felt entertained by the internet, with a significant portion using it as a diversion during sadness or boredom. Concerns about missing out on information online were prevalent, with many experiencing discomfort when unable to access the internet. The research aimed to explore the relationship between loneliness and the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) among these students. Utilizing a sample of 400 respondents selected through cluster random sampling, loneliness and FoMO were measured using respective scales with reliabilities of 0.755 and 0.765. Spearman's Rank correlation with SPSS 21 software revealed a significant positive correlation (r=0.311, p<0.05) between loneliness and FoMO, with both variables predominantly falling in the moderate category among the students. Abstrak: Berdasarkan studi pendahuluan yang dilakukan pada 35 mahasiswa Universitas Negeri Semarang, ditemukan bahwa sebagian besar responden (97,1%) adalah perempuan berusia 19-24 tahun. Abstract

Globally, the problem of escalating incidences of trauma among adolescents has adversely affected their physical, behavioral, emotional and psychological functioning hence impairing their quality and ability to adjust in school. The purpose of this study was to establish the effectiveness of trauma informed interventions and academic adjustment among adolescents in public secondary schools in Kisii County. This study employed an explanatory sequential mixed method design. The study targeted a population of 1100 students from which 275 students were sampled through simple random and purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires, Focused Group Discussions, in-depth interviews and academic adjustment scale. Both descriptive and inferential techniques were employed to analyze quantitative data. The qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The results from Pearson Correlation coefficient affirmed a positive statistically significant nexus (n=.732, n= 275, p<.0.05) between trauma informed interventions and academic adjustment. The qualitative data findings further affirmed that trauma informed interventions enhance academic adjustment and resilience among adolescents. The study concluded that effective adoption of trauma informed interventions are critical in coping with academic adjustment levels among adolescents.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of resilience within the context of Islamic psychology, an area relatively unexplored by conventional psychological approaches. Employing qualitative methodology, particularly document review, this research aims to understand how principles documented in the Quran and Hadith can influence individual resilience in facing academic stress and challenges. The data analysis process involves data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, emphasizing validation through credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability of results. Key findings indicate that the practical application of Islamic values enhances academic resilience, reflected in individuals’ resilience when facing academic tasks. This study provides new insights into educational psychology by offering an alternative perspective that integrates spiritual dimensions into education. This enriches our understanding of resilience, while also making a significant theoretical contribution to the development of modern educational paradigms. By exploring the methods of Islamization of knowledge, this study also delves into aspects of resilience rooted in Islamic values, providing constructive solutions to criticisms of modern psychology often considered detached from divine values. The practical implications of this research are expected to support more effective mentoring and teaching efforts in value-based educational contexts.

The research results reveal that (1) the principal's competence is related to teacher performance, and the principal's competence has minimal influence on the performance of vocational school teachers. (2) Facilities and infrastructure were found to be related to vocational school teacher performance. Facilities and infrastructure have a significant effect on the performance of vocational school teachers. (3) The competence of the school principal, facilities and infrastructure have a significant influence on the performance of vocational school teachers. Abstract

Adolescent aggression has long been a major concern in the fields of educational psychology and sociology, especially in Indonesia where social and cultural dynamics play a role in shaping adolescent behavior. This study is a systematic literature review, examining 30 publications from the years 2014 to 2023 to understand the factors influencing aggression among Indonesian adolescents. This method involved collecting data from various sources accessed through Google Scholar using relevant keywords associated with adolescent aggression. The purpose of this review is to specifically ascertain the effects of internal factors such as emotional maturity, emotional intelligence, and self-control, as well as external factors including peer conformity, parental communication styles, parenting styles, and the intensity of online gaming on aggressive behavior in adolescents. The findings from this analysis are expected to provide deeper insights into effective ways to intervene and prevent aggressive behaviors among adolescents in Indonesia, thereby making a significant contribution to parenting practices, education, and social and mental health policy for adolescents.

Abstract

Psychosomatic condition refers to mental and physical dysfunction arising from physical and psychological symptoms. This research aims to employ cognitive language activities to increase and improve the participants' metamemory who have a psychosomatic illness. Engineering students from the Vellore region studying at the tertiary level were selected as the study participants. Participants in late adolescence were chosen for the study because they displayed a high level of psychosomatic condition. The study employs a non-equivalent control group Design (NEGD), which incorporates both qualitative and quantitative analysis, as the study involves non-randomization,and contest the variables. The sampling method employed in the study is purposive sampling hence, non-parametric test was performed in SPSS. Unstructured interview was also employed after each session and their symptoms were inquired and marked in PSQ. Participants were given and instructed to employ coping startegies and memory strategies to reduce the impact of memory decline, psychosomatic symptoms, stress and anxiety. The intervention took place over eight weeks, and participants were given four sets of worksheets like chunking and embroidery. To assess the participants' progress, eight successive tests were administered. Ninety-three people were chosen to participate in the current study. The pre-test and post-test scores' significant value was 0.000. The results indicate a substantial difference between the metamemory pre-test and post-test scores. Cognitive activities have significantly triggered the pre-frontal cortex region of the brain (responsible for memory and have negative effect due to psychosomatic condition) and improved the metamemory and memory strategies.
