The research has been done by using close-ended working and open-ended questionnaires, answered 63 Indonesian expatriate who has been working and living at Singapore for at least 6 months. Based on the analysis result, the aculturative stressor that has been experienced by the respondents fall into five dimension: Occupational and Financial Mobility, Cultural Differences-Achievement, Cultural Difference-Speed, Cultural Difference-Competiveness, and Biological (food) stressor. Stress coping style that has been used effectively by most respondent is active problem coping. Abstract

Mastery of adaptive behavior is the important skill to be achieved by the children with mental retardation One of the indicator for a child to be called mental retarded is the lack of his adaptive behavior ability. Eventhough, adaptive behavior is very important to be mastered by mental retarded children in surviving their lives. This reason makes adaptive behavior becomes a focus for this research. In mastering the adaptive behavior, the role of a mother is very neeeded. This is related to Indonesian culture, while father is breadwinner and mother is nurturing their children. The role of mother focused on the role as a teacher, as a managing behavior, relating to the school, counselors, and educating significant other. Data obtained though observation and intervews with three mothers who have children with mental retardation that entered elementary school. Result of the study showed that as a teacher, mother showed the adaptive behavior and asked the children to do as so independently. As a behavior manager, mothers gave reward and punishment to their children. As a relationship builder with school, mothers didin’t actively involved in school activities. As conselor, mothers helped their children to solve socialization problems. The role in educating significant other did not occur because they do the parenting on their own without any help.

Abstract

Cancer is one of the deadliest disease in Indonesia. The most common cancer in Indonesia is breast cancer. Breast cancer is more dominated by women rather than men, where the ratio is 9 to 1. Women that are diagnose with breast cancer and had surgery but also undergone treatment for five years or more are called the breast cancer survorl. The breast cancer survivors ususally have some physical diturbance that caused by the medication and also have psychological disorder cause by the removal of the breast. With the existence of interference issues of the breast cancer survivor, researchers made a psychological test to see the adjustment of a young adult women that is survive from the breast cancer. This test is called PDWSKP. For making PDWSKP researchers takes 31 respondents but only 18 respondets that can be used. This respondent was obtained through snowball sampling technique. In the preparation of PDWSKP, researchers used the theory of Huber and Runyon (1984) as a basis that consists of five domains. This 5 domain that had been made to be more contextual by putting in the result of interview with breast cancer survivors. The result of PDWSKP shows that from 25 items that have been tested by using reliability analysis all of the items are reliable (R= .880) but not externally valid when it is correlated with SWLS questionnare (r= -.129, p=609). From the calculation of corrected item total correlation, there are 4 items that’s not internally valid.

In 1990, Podsakoff and colleagues had developed a scale usually used in OCB research, named OCB Self-Rating Scale. Researchers adapted the scale into organizational context in indonesia. The research pasticipants are 287 people who work in organzations. After being translated into Indonesian, the psychometric test result showed that some numbers of items are not valid tp measure the domain behavior and OCB construct. This OCB adaptation scale is not valid, either internally or externally, with coefficients of 0,37 and 0,22 respectively. Based on Coefficient Alpha technic of reliability, this scale is reliable with coefficient of 0,81. The norms are categorized by gender. The use of this adaptation scale has to some of the items associated with the organizational contect in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study describes self-efficacy of a young women named Wulan (real name with permission) who was an injecting drug user. According to Bandura (1994) self-efficacy is “people's beliefs about their capabilities to produce designated levels of performance that exercise influence over events that affect their lives. Perceived self-efficacy is concerned with individuals’ beliefs in their capability to exercise control over challenging demands and their own functioning”. Self -efficacy is a very effective competence to refrain from addiction and relapse of substance abuse. Wulan has shown efficacy when she decided to refrain from her addiction, got treatment, founded the STIGMA foundation to help prevent IDU’s from stigma and discrimination , become the director of the foundation and become an active speaker at national and international conferences and seminars. To describe Wulan’s life story and struggle, the writer used qualitative research methods. Wulan’s case study was built on an in-depth interview with Wulan, listening to her testimony, secondary sources from the media, and observation. This case study has shown how self-efficacy has helped Wulan in striving for her normal life during the four phases of transition from addiction (to alcohol) to a normal life, described by Bowden (1998, in Zakrzewski & Hector, 2004) i.e. Living in the Shadow, Departure, Initiation, dan Return.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the impact of faking responses on measurement reliability of psychological scales. Experiments were conducted on 200 subjects who were asked to complete Five Factors Personality Scale (BFI-44) with two different instructions. First instruction asked subjects to respond within a neutral condition, whereas second instruction asked subjects to respond to the scale when they are participating in employment selection (motivated conditions). Comparisons of alpha coefficient between these conditions suggest that faking responses does not interfere measurement reliability. Pure score proportion on observed score was unaffected by presence of faking responses. However, using the state-trait model, it is found that untainted score proportion on observed scores are more related to state score compared to the trait score as main measurement target. Results of separated analysis model toward personality factors shown that Agreeableness and Openness are factors which were relatively resistant to faking responses. Trait score proportion of these factors still large although faking responses were presence.
