Abstract

Parents of children with autism often experience lower levels of marital satisfaction. Achieving marital satisfaction is challenging, as it develops over a long period of time. Many studies indicate that self-acceptance is among the key factors associated with marital satisfaction. However, further research is needed to better understand the relationship between these two variables, particularly given the unique challenges faced by families raising children with autism. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-acceptance and marital satisfaction among parents of children with autism. A quantitative approach with correlational explanatory design was employed. Data was collected using convenience sampling, involving 24 married couples who have children with autism. The results showed no significant relationship between self-acceptance and marital satisfaction of parents of children with autism. Further research is recommended to explore additional variables that may mediate the relationship between self-acceptance and marital satisfaction.

Abstract

Final-year higher education students often face career challenges. Career maturity refers to an individual’s readiness to make informed career choices, encompassing all the processes, knowledge, and skills needed to complete career developmental tasks. It is essential for final-year students to achieve career maturity, considering they are nearing the end of their education and transitioning into the future world of work. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between future time perspective and career maturity. Future time perspective refers to the extent to which an individual perceives the future according to his or her needs and goals, thus influencing current thoughts, behavior, and decision making. This correlational study, conducted on 166 final-year students in Surabaya selected via incidental sampling. Using the Future Time Orientation Scale and a career maturity scale, Kendall’s Tau-B formula showed that future time perspective was positively related to career maturity. The higher the levels of future time perspective, the higher the levels of career maturity, and vice versa. This suggests final-year students who prioritize future goals are more likely to actively prepare for and achieve career maturity.

Abstract

The Community Learning Activity Centre (Pusat Kegiatan Belajar Masyarakat/PKBM) is a non-formal educational institution that provides a 12-year basic education equivalent. PKBM X in Jakarta has students with special educational needs. As an inclusive PKBM, teachers are expected to have knowledge about students with special educational needs (PDBK). Learning at PKBM X is reportedly suboptimal due to a lack of teacher knowledge about PDBK. Therefore, it is important to assess the basic knowledge that PKBM X teachers have about PDBK. The teacher knowledge measured in this study is based on knowledge and basic-level cognitive processes in Bloom's Taxonomy. This descriptive quantitative study involved 58 teachers from ten PKBM X branches in Indonesia. The measuring instrument is a questionnaire about teachers' knowledge. The results showed that 55.17% of teachers had insufficient knowledge, 31.03% had sufficient knowledge and just 13.79% had a good grasp of the subject. This insufficient knowledge was mainly related to strategies for handling PDBK, with an average score of 48.85%. The same applies to the application domain in Bloom's Taxonomy, where the average knowledge is 51.47%. It is suspected that the PKBM X teachers' lack of knowledge stems from inadequate training in PDBK.

Abstract

Loneliness may arise after an individual experiences a breakup, characterized by feelings of sadness, melancholy, loss of motivation, and low self-esteem. One factor that can reduce loneliness is self-compassion, namely, a kind and understanding attitude toward oneself when facing suffering. This study aims to examine the role of self-compassion in loneliness among early adults after a breakup in a romantic relationship. The research employed a quantitative approach involving 210 participants aged 20–40 years who had experienced a breakup within the past two weeks to five months, selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used were the Self-Compassion Scale (Neff, 2003) and the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3 (Russell, 1996). Validity and reliability were assessed using the Rasch model, which showed that the scales had good validity and reliability. The data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicated that self-compassion had a significant and negative role in loneliness. It means higher self-compassion contributed to lower loneliness. This study recommends developing psychological interventions on self-compassion to reduce the emotional impact of a breakup.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of grit on academic stress among final-year students in Indonesia. In this study, the researcher employed a quantitative method with regression analysis. The measurement tools used were the Skala Stres Akademik and Skala Grit. The sample consisted of 297 students currently working on their theses, selected through non-probability sampling techniques. The findings show that grit significantly predicts academic stress. This indicates that grit helps students develop a more positive perception of academic stressors and serves as a psychological resource that enables them to remain diligent and resilient in facing the challenges of thesis writing. For future research, it is recommended to explore the strongest predictors or correlations between factors influencing grit and levels of grit.

Abstract

This study explores the experiences of body image, minority stress, and gay community stress among homosexual men in Jakarta. Previous research suggests that homosexual men are more vulnerable to developing negative body image, with their sexual identity and involvement in the gay community creating additional layers of complexity in this process. Employing a qualitative approach with thematic analysis, data were gathered through semi-structured face-to-face interviews with four participants in their early twenties, all of whom identified as homosexual men over the age of 18 and represented diverse social backgrounds and community experiences. The findings show that body image formation is shaped by minority stress and gay community stress, both of which reinforce the idealization of masculinity. Minority stress stemmed from heteronormative cultural pressures that position masculinity as the normative ideal, while gay community stress originated within the community itself, where masculine bodies are often valued as the primary marker of social and sexual desirability. This dual pressure to appear masculine generated internal conflict which, when unmet, resulted in anxiety, feelings of undesirability, and negative self-evaluations about their physical appearances, further intensified by social media and dating applications. These findings highlight the importance of addressing the psychosocial experiences of homosexual men to inform more inclusive interventions.

Abstract

Career adaptability has become a crucial topic, particularly for young people navigating dynamic market changes and workplace challenges while pursuing their dream jobs. These factors heavily influence how individuals plan and build their careers, underscoring the importance of career adaptability—an individual's capacity to manage current and future tasks, job role changes, and transitions at work, all of which significantly affect their lives. This study examined the career adaptability of 307 employees aged 17–60 in the Jabodetabek area using a quantitative approach and descriptive analysis. Data were collected with the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale Indonesian Form (CAAS-Indonesian Form). The results indicated that the four dimensions of career adaptability—concern, control, curiosity, and confidence—were at moderate levels. Additionally, a positive correlation was observed between career adaptability and job satisfaction. Future research should explore the relationship between job satisfaction and career adaptability in greater detail.

Abstract

Parents of hearing-impaired children have various challenges that can cause stress. As they work, these challenges may increase. However, they must still be able to facilitate optimal care for their child’s development, especially at the age of 5-12, because children start to enter social environments. Resilience helps individuals to survive and adapt when experiencing difficulties. Therefore, it is important for parents to have resilience which affects their psychological well-being and their children’s quality of life. The research uses qualitative methods with phenomenological design and thematic analysis. The participants are hearing mothers, who work and have one child with hearing impairment aged 5-12 years old. This research found that all three participants showed resilience after accepting their child’s condition and going through unique dynamics. Perception of stressors, understanding of children’s characteristics, coping abilities, social support, positive interpretation, spirituality, and social support, play a role. Therefore, parents can continue to learn about their child’s condition and seek social support.

Abstract

Abstract

Banten is one of the provinces that ranks first in health centers that organize mental health efforts. In Banten Province, the prevalence of patients with mental disorders who received treatment and were not abandoned was only 32.16%. With adequate knowledge and access to mental health services, there is no behavior to seek formal psychological help in there. This study aims to understand the meaning of mental disorders in Bantenese society using social representation theory with a structural approach and divided into two stages. The first stage aims to find the attributes of social representations of mental disorders using the word association method. There were 172 participants who participated in the first stage with a total of 929 responses. The categorization process was carried out, and 36 categories were obtained. Content analysis resulted in a Cohen's Kappa value of .588. The second stage aims to map the central core and peripheral attributes using the double denial technique. Results from 181 participants were tested with chi-square goodness of fit expected frequency. The social representation of mental illness in Banten society includes 17 attributes, 12 attributes of central core elements, and five attributes of peripheral elements. The results showed that Banten people have sufficient knowledge related to mental illness and sources of help. However, people still have negative views, concerns, cost considerations, feelings of helplessness, and confidentiality issues. Psychoeducation can be recommended as an intervention to increase public knowledge and shake abnormal and crazy attributes in peripheral elements.
