Abstract

Reading is one of the primary skills that students must learn. In reading comprehension, they should not only read the whole text, but also comprehend what the important point of the text is. However, they will face some difficulties comprehending text during reading. Therefore, Group Investigation (GI) technique is the solution to solve their difficulties. The aim of the research is to investigate the effect of Group Investigation (GI) technique on students reading comprehension. In conducting the research, the researcher used a pre-experimental design in a one-group pretest-posttest design using a quantitative approach. The population of the research was the students of XI grade of SMK Qotrunnada Al-Ilmi. There were 15 students in the sample, which was taken by simple random sampling. The students were given a reading comprehension test as the instrument. The result showed that based on the t-tabel, the t-test value result is 8.7, and the degree of freedom (df) of 14 at the level of significance 0.05 is 2.14. Then, the t-test value result is higher than the t-table value (8.7 2.14). It means that the alternative hypothesis of this research (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that Group Investigation (GI) is one technique to help students in comprehending the text. In other words, Group Investigation (GI) techniques affect students reading comprehension.

The aim of this research is to find out the causal factors of students' reading comprehension difficulties on descriptive text at the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Campurdarat. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the research is seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Campurdarat in Academic Year 2022/2023. The techniques of collecting the data are interview and test. Data analyzing include data reduction, data display and drawing conclusions or verification, the researcher arranging the information described in order to draw conclusion. The result of the research shows that the factor of causing the students difficulties found in comprehending English reading text there are difficulty in understanding long sentence in the text, difficulty in using reading strategies, difficulty in Concentration, learner's background, house environment and school environment.

Abstract

Writing is one of productive skills that is different from other skills. In writing, students need more time to express their idea in a written form. Besides, teacher also needs time to give feedback to motivate the students in revising their work. To make the activity of giving feedback more effective and efficient, this research was conducted. It is aimed to find out whether peer feedback has positive effect or not in enhancing students ability to write descriptive text. This research involved the third semester students of English Language Education Study Program, Pakuan University. The sample was 21 students from semester 3A. They were chosen by using random sampling technique. The researcher used quantitaive approach and applied pre-experimental method. She chose one group pre-test post-test design. The instrument of this research was writing test to measure students ability to write descriptive text. In addition, the data were analyzed by using t-test formula. From the calculation, she finds the result of t-test value is 9.41 meanwhile the t-table value is 2.09 from the significant level 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) is 20. It means that the t-test value is higher than t-table value (9.41 more than 2.09). The calculation indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Thus, peer feedback affects students ability to write descriptive text.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The paper entitled Students Error in Constructing Complex Sentences” is aimed to find out the error that students make in constructing complex sentences in interrogative form with the noun clause as dependent clause. In conducting this research, the writer applies descriptive method to describe the studentss error. The research was conducted in the fifth semester students of English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences, Pakuan University. The writer uses purposive sampling in conducting this research and takes the students who got score less than 70 in Text Based Structure.  The data were gained from three instruments: documentation, questionnaire and interview. The documentation is taken from the students work, questionnaires are distributed to the 60 students who become the participants and the interview is done to the lecturer who taught Text Based Structure. The writer finds out there are four types of error that students made. Those errors are omission, addition, misformation and misordering. The result shows that the highest error made by students is misformation. The writer suggests that the students should learn more about the pattern of complex sentence so they will know the verb that should be used in the noun clause as dependent clause. Keywords : students error, complex sentence, noun clause

Abstract

This qualitative study investigates the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in English Language Teaching (ELT) within university settings, with a specific focus on the viewpoints and experiences of university-level English teachers in Nepal. The research was conducted in Lumbini Province, Nepal, where 14 university-level English teachers were purposively selected from seven constituent campuses. Through unstructured smartphone interviews, participants shared insights on AI integration in ELT. The findings reveal a diverse range of expectations and concerns among university-level English teachers regarding AI’s role in language instruction. While participants expressed optimism about AI’s potential to revolutionize language learning through personalized experiences and immediate feedback, they also voiced apprehensions. These concerns encompassed job displacement, potential erosion of human interaction, and ethical implications related to AI usage. To address these challenges, participants employed various strategies. They navigated ethical considerations by raising awareness, engaging in reflection, and advocating for ethical guidelines. The study emphasizes the importance of a balanced approach to AI integration-one that harnesses its promises while addressing potential pitfalls. Responsible and inclusive AI usage in language education necessitates thoughtful consideration of both benefits and challenges.

Based on the pre-research observation, the students have difficulties to interpret and also to acknowledge the metaphor in poems. Therefore, the writer intends to find the students’ problem to interpret metaphor especially in poems. This research uses descriptive qualitative method, which tries to explain plainly about the students’ problem to interpret the metaphor. It was conducted at English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences, Pakuan University. To collect the data, the research uses triangulation such as, documentations, interview, and questionnaire. The respondents of this research are 21 students of third semester at Pakuan University that formed into three groups of people. After collecting the data, the writer classifies the findings into two categories, misunderstanding and non-understanding. Based on the result, there are two groups with non-understanding problem; they clearly not understand the whole meaning of metaphor, and decided to not seek for further explanation. It can be seen by the way they missed the real metaphor that they supposed to interpret. However, two group with misunderstanding problem, they believed that they already interpret the metaphor correctly, furthermore, they do not seek for clarification to clarify their statements, whether it is right or wrong.
