Abstract

This paper focuses on the narratives of women in Maguindanao as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). This qualitative multiple-case study aims to describe and explore the experiences of Maguindanao women IDPs during the armed conflict. Moreover, this study explained experiences in detail to develop a comprehensive understanding of the IDPs’ narratives. Their strategies and coping mechanisms were also discussed. Through in-depth interviews and analysis, significant themes were noted. The results show that women IDPs are the most affected during armed conflicts. They assume the roles of men and stand to protect their children. These results imply that IDPs need the support of government institutions and other organizations to improve the quality of their lives. More attention and effort must be dedicated to this marginalized sector of the community.

Abstract

The recent pandemic compelled universities and colleges worldwide to provide services different from usual. This change and the increasing competitive intensities demand higher performance levels globally in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). To achieve the desired performance levels, universities and colleges must identify well-performing areas and areas needing improvement. One way to identify these areas is by surveying students’ satisfaction. Many studies have been conducted on student satisfaction in public and private universities worldwide. However, students’ satisfaction with the “new normal” has not been fully explored. This study conceptualizes student satisfaction by developing a framework that integrates the service quality dimensions in the “new normal.” Results, conclusions, and recommendations are discussed.

Abstract

This study aimed to provide alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs by using knowledge of medicinal plants as a treatment for illnesses related to the symptoms of COVID-19. Forty traditional healers from the village were invited to serve as informants for this study. Their ages ranged from 50 to above, and those aged 60 had the highest number of informants. A total of 34 plant species belonging to 26 families and 33 genera have been reported as medicinal plants. The relative frequency of citation (RFC) values ranged from 0.525 to 0.025, with Plectranthus amboinicus being the highest (0.525).  The use value (UV) ranged between 0.150 and 0.025, indicating a low range, as the study focused only on eight ailments related to COVID-19. Tree species constitute the largest portion of plants; leaves are the most utilized parts, and decoction is the most common method among traditional healers. This study proves that the knowledge and use of herbal medicine for the treatment of various ailments among local people is still a part of their life and culture.

The study is grounded in the existing literature on the topic, suggesting that more comprehensive and up-to-date data on the challenges former seminarian students face in higher education is needed. The study addressed a gap in understanding former seminarians' problems. The study used a descriptive research design with an exploratory case study design, employing a survey method to gather the data needed for the study. The study uncovered that the former seminarians face financial and personal challenges. The study discovered that the former seminarians coping strategies to overcome challenges fall within the scope of six intrinsic and two extrinsic strategies.

Abstract

Parents play a huge part in how a child learns. This study examined parents' perception of online instruction at the primary grade level and its relationship to their demographic profile. The study employed a descriptive-correlational research design using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire. A total of 80 parents of primary-level pupils were chosen as respondents. Parents' demographic profiles and perceptions were described using frequency counts, minima, maxima, means, and percentages. Point-biserial correlations and Spearman-Rho correlations were used to determine the variables' significant relationships. The data showed a significant relationship between the parent's employment status and their perception of online delivery of instruction in terms of the learning management system. At the same time, other dimensions were revealed to be non-significant to the parents' demographic profile. The study found that most parents adhered to the fact that online delivery of instruction offers flexible education and provides personalized learning experiences where pupils can learn independently.
