Abstract

The study determined the role of social support in promoting the resilience of 400 adolescents in Region XII, Philippines, during the COVID-19 pandemic. In analyzing the data, mean, standard deviation, Pearson product-moment correlation, and regression analysis were used. Results revealed that the level of social support indicated by emotional support and instrumental support is very high. The level of adolescent resilience is also very high, as indicated by novelty seeking, emotional regulation, and positive future orientation.  Social support helped promote the resilience of adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Family, friends, and other significant individuals’ support is essential for alleviating distress and can be a vital component for fortifying interpersonal connections and relationships in order to build individuals' capacity to tolerate suffering and build resilience to cope with challenges and strains during the pandemic—a strong foundation for well-being throughout life.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Polya’s UC3 model in improving the problem-solving skills and attitude and perception towards problem-solving of grade 2 students. Quantitative data were gathered through a two-group pre-posttest quasi-experimental design, and qualitative data were gathered through focused group discussion from 54 grade two students through convenient sampling. The Paired T-test and T-test for independent samples results revealed that UC3 model has increased students’ problem-solving skills to Satisfactory level with a significant pair difference and mean gain as compared to conventional method. It has also increased students’ attitude and perception with a significant mean gain in growth mindset and interest. Based on the findings, it is concluded that the utilization of the UC3 Model in teaching problem solving is effective in improving students’ skills and attitude and perception towards problem solving of grade 2 students. It further recommends for provision of programs and workshops by administrations, integration of UC3 in classroom instruction by the teachers, and further validation of findings by other researchers.

Abstract

This study investigated the food preferences and consumption of elementary school pupils and the factors that influence them. A stratified random sampling with equal allocation was used to determine the respondents of the study from among the pupils in an elementary school in Palo, Leyte. The 3-point hedonic food preference scale and the 3-point hedonic food consumption scale were also used in the study to determine which foods were preferred and consumed by the pupils. The scale used in this study was based on the foods available in the respondent’s environment and the factors reported in the relevant research literature. The gathered data were subjected to different statistical treatments in order to answer the research questions. This study was able to determine the food preferences and food consumption of basic education students. Moreover, the study findings may provide deeper insights into food preference and food consumption among elementary school pupils and contribute useful information to future research.

Abstract

Filling paddy bags by hand is a common task during harvesting, but it can cause musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in various body regions. The current study aims to evaluate posture and find an association between MSDs and body posture scores. The Nordic questionnaire and rapid entire body assessment (REBA) were used to collect MSDs and postures from farmers. The MSD in various body regions (neck, elbows, hands, upper back, knees, ankles, lower back, hips, thighs, and buttocks) was found to be 6.7%, 10%, 3.3%, 6.7%, 16.7%, 20%, and 10%, respectively, during the last 12-month period. In REBA score findings, holding bags, filling the bucket, and the bag were found to have a very high risk of causing MSDs. Despite the fact that MSDs are not very common among farmers who engage in paddy bagging tasks, posture analysis reveals what causes MSDs. Further investigation is needed to improve and reduce MSDs.

Abstract

This study explores the use of technology and social media during the pandemic among the first-year students of a higher education institution (HEI). This study employed a mixed-methods research design that embodies the principles of descriptive communication research, which entails a systematic examination of the communication process and its essential components. It was discovered that the abilities that the research participants are most familiar with include Word processors, E-mail, Search Engines, and Social Networking, demonstrating how technology may also influence the degree of knowledge in both students and the instructor. The college does a good job of offering services including virtual classrooms, computer labs, learning management systems, ePortfolios, online technologies, software access, and open-source software. However, students still need more time or to be given more opportunities to explore these skills so they can advance their user level. This also reveals their dependency on social media platforms to satisfy a variety of needs.

Abstract

This study aimed to collect, classify, and identify lichens found in Lake Leonard, New Leyte, Maco, and Davao de Oro Province. Field surveys and sample collection were carried out through the transect walk method. The lichen species were collected using a knife and then placed inside resealable plastic bags. The collected specimens were air dried and then placed on herbarium packets with detailed taxonomic information. The collected specimens were preserved. Out of thirty-five (35) specimens collected, Thirty-three (33) species of lichens were identified. Nineteen (19) genera and twelve (12) families, namely: Pertusariaceae, Physciaceae, Parmaliaceae, Collenmataceae, Graphidaeceae, Cladoniaceae, Teloschistaceae, Coccoatpiaceae, Ramalinaceae, Hygrophoraceae, Thelotremataceae, and Sterocaulaceae Most of the collected species in the study area were rare (73%). Only a few were found widespread in the study area. This result could serve as baseline data for the management of the lichen ecosystem in the area.
