Abstract

Amidst the rapid development of the digital economy, innovation practices are critical for enhancing performance and ensuring the sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. As the backbone of the national economy, contributing significantly to GDP and employment, MSMEs are vital for macroeconomic resilience and inclusive growth. However, they consistently encounter systemic challenges in maintaining business performance and long-term survival, particularly within highly competitive and volatile markets, exacerbated by the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to analyze the impact of innovation practices on MSME business performance and survival in Indonesia, with external support serving as a moderating factor. Using a purposive sampling technique, data was collected from 281 MSME actors in Jabodetabek who had embraced innovation. SEM-PLS analysis revealed that innovation practices positively and significantly affect both business performance and survival. Interestingly, external support did not moderate the influence of innovation practices on business performance but did moderate its effect on business continuity.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of zakat digitalization in Indonesia has not received adequate support from comprehensive normative guidance. Against this backdrop, this research maps the disparities between the Council of Indonesia Ulama (MUI) fatwas and digitalization of zakat administration, while designing a governance model to bridge existing gaps. The study positions MUI as the central focus due to its status as the apex fatwa authority that confers Sharia legitimacy upon Islamic financial practices, including zakat operations. Methodologically, this research employs a qualitative multi-method design comprising systematic content analysis of 30 MUI zakat fatwas issued between 1982-2024, cross-jurisdictional comparative review of digital zakat governance frameworks, and thematic synthesis of primary materials (fatwas) and secondary sources (peer-reviewed articles and relevant regulations). The core findings demonstrate that only 6.7 percent of these fatwas directly and substantively address digitalization, indicating a material regulatory lacuna. The consequences encompass ambiguity regarding Sharia compliance, disincentives toward innovation, and fragmented standards in digital technology deployment and data governance within zakat institutions. In response, this paper proposes a Fatwa-Based Digital Zakat Governance Framework organized around three fundamental pillars: (1) Sharia-aligned digital innovation, (2) technology-enabled operational efficiency, and (3) digital accountability mechanisms. The framework incorporates a phased implementation roadmap and provides actionable guidance for practitioners and regulators. Overall, this model supports the sustainable digital transformation of Indonesia's zakat institutions while preserving Sharia compliance requirements.

Abstract

The Indonesian government has set a target for State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to achieve a risk management maturity level of 4.2 out of 5 by 2024. This objective is especially crucial following the consolidation of BRI, Pegadaian, and PNM into the Ultra Micro SOEs Holding. The integration process introduces new risks that require robust governance and control mechanisms. This study investigates how key risk management components namely governance, frameworks, processes, and internal controls contribute to strengthening risk management maturity in the Ultra Micro holding structure. Using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), the research explores complex interrelations among these elements based on survey data from 644 respondents across the three SOEs. The findings confirm that most variables significantly influence one another and collectively support a sound model for maturity enhancement. However, the study also uncovers two statistically insignificant relationships: between the framework and the process, and between the process and overall maturity. These anomalies indicate the potential presence of mediating variables or implementation gaps that reduce the practical effectiveness of formal structures. The study concludes that a strong foundation in governance and internal control can meaningfully support risk maturity, but effective process execution may require further contextual and operational alignment. These results offer strategic insights for improving risk practices in SOEs and emphasize the need for future research to investigate hidden dynamics that may affect risk maturity outcomes.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness of Indonesia's Hajj financial management regulations following the establishment of the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) under Law No. 34 of 2014. With increasing pilgrim demand exceeding available quotas, effective management of accumulated Hajj funds has become critical for ensuring pilgrim welfare and maintaining public trust. The research employs Value Chain Analysis and Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) methodologies through expert interviews and questionnaire surveys with key stakeholders. Value Chain Analysis identified nine key activities within BPKH's operations, while RIA evaluated policy impacts through systematic assessment of costs, benefits, and stakeholder perspectives. Findings reveal that BPKH's establishment significantly improved Hajj financial management with 100% expert consensus on enhanced transparency, efficiency, and accountability. However, the policy framework remains suboptimal due to service disparities among pilgrims, suboptimal investment returns, and incomplete institutional coordination. The study concludes that Law No. 34/2014 represents significant advancement in establishing clearer investment parameters and accountability frameworks, though digital transformation challenges persist. The research recommends strengthening investment risk management, expanding virtual account systems, and prioritizing comprehensive digital infrastructure development including IoT integration for operational monitoring, artificial intelligence for investment optimization, and blockchain technology for enhanced security while maintaining Sharia compliance.

Abstract

Master Data Management (MDM) is a crucial framework for ensuring the consistency, accuracy, and reliability of key data entities within banking systems. In the financial sector, where data from multiple departments and sources is constantly generated and shared, it is vital to maintain a single, unified view of critical data to prevent inconsistencies, inaccuracies, and duplication. This paper introduces a comprehensive design for implementing MDM in banks, utilizing a consolidation approach integrated with the Jaro-Winkler similarity algorithm. The consolidation approach allows the seamless integration of disparate data sources across various departments, creating a unified and centralized data repository. This is essential for maintaining a comprehensive and reliable view of data assets, thereby improving decision-making and operational efficiency. The inclusion of the Jaro-Winkler algorithm enhances data matching capabilities by identifying and resolving duplicates or near-duplicate records through name and text similarity comparisons, an essential feature given the complex nature of customer and transactional data in banking. By addressing these challenges, the proposed MDM solution significantly improves data quality, reduces redundancy, and ensures that information is accurate and accessible across all levels of the organization. This system provides a scalable, robust, and efficient data management infrastructure, crucial for meeting regulatory compliance requirements, enhancing customer service, and optimizing operational processes. The methodology presented in this paper demonstrates an effective and structured approach for large-scale data integration and verification, offering a reliable solution for managing vast amounts of data in the banking sector.

Abstract

Intensified digital competition is forcing organizations across diverse sectors, from the B2B carton box industry to Educational Management, to seek differentiation through strategic digital branding. This is particularly true for industrial firms often trapped by commoditization. However, existing literature frequently analyzes social media and e-commerce in silos, creating a research gap regarding their synergistic impact on internal management. This study aims to fill this gap by empirically validating a holistic model that links the strategic integration of these digital platforms to brand enhancement, management quality, and sustainable competitive advantage. The novelty of this research lies in demonstrating this complete causal pathway within an industrial B2B context, offering a transferable framework for other fields. Using a quantitative approach, survey data from 150 respondents in the carton box industry were analyzed with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results confirmed all five hypotheses, revealing that strategic integration is an exceptionally strong predictor of brand enhancement (β = 0.979). The findings cruciallydemonstrate that brand enhancement is the primary mediating variable; its effect on improving management quality and securing a competitive advantage is substantially stronger than other direct paths. This study concludes that the most effective mechanism for organizations, industrial companies, or institutions in educational management, to achieve market leadership in the digital era is by strategically using integrated digital tools to first cultivate a powerful and trusted brand.
