Abstract

Abstract

Purpose – This study investigates the influence of hybrid work culture, work-life balance, organizational support, and employee engagement on freelancer retention within the Upwork platform. Method – Using a quantitative approach with 210 respondents, data were analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling to explore relational dynamics among the key variables. Findings – Results indicate that hybrid work culture significantly enhances retention, particularly when mediated by strong organizational support and high levels of engagement. Work-life balance plays a moderating role, reinforcing the positive effects of flexible work models on freelancers’ long-term commitment. Practical implications – Theoretically, this study extends retention discourse into the gig economy, bridging management and labor sustainability frameworks. From a Shariah perspective, the findings emphasize equitable treatment, well-being, and dignity in employment practices, aligning with the objectives of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. Abstract

Purpose – This study evaluates customer perceptions and experiences of Sharia-based service quality in Islamic financial institutions, emphasizing its role in fostering sustainable banking management. It explores how the alignment between service delivery and Islamic principles influences customer satisfaction, loyalty, and long-term institutional resilience. Method – A qualitative descriptive approach was adopted, utilizing in-depth interviews with selected customers who actively engage in banking transactions. Purposive sampling ensured the inclusion of participants capable of providing nuanced insights into service delivery and its Sharia compliance. Findings – Results reveal that adherence to Sharia principles, combined with professionalism, transparency, and customer-centered interactions, strengthens customer trust and satisfaction. Positive experiences often translate into loyalty and advocacy, while customer knowledge, cultural values, and needs further shape perceptions. The integration of Islamic ethical values into service quality emerges as a strategic driver for sustaining competitive advantage. Practical implications – Islamic banks should integrate Sharia compliance with a sustainability-oriented service culture through continuous staff training, customer education, and quality assurance mechanisms. This dual focus enhances not only regulatory adherence but also the long-term viability of Islamic financial institutions. Originality/value – This research extends the literature on Islamic service quality by linking Sharia compliance to sustainable banking management, offering actionable insights for policymakers, managers, and practitioners seeking to optimize both customer experience and institutional sustainability

Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of job promotion on the performance of millennial employees in the banking sector, particularly at Bank BRI KC Maros, and to understand the extent to which millennial employees interest in job promotion affects their motivation and performance in the work environment. Method – This study uses a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression analysis method. Data was collected through questionnaires distributed to employees of Bank BRI KC Maros, then processed using SPSS version 25 to test the validity, reliability, and influence between the variables of promotion and employee performance. Findings – The results of the study indicate that promotion does not have a significant effect on employee performance at Bank BRI KC Maros. These findings indicate that millennial employees continue to work with high dedication even without the prospect of promotion, reflecting their intrinsic motivation and professionalism in carrying out their duties. Practical implications – The practical implication of this study is that banking management needs to pay more attention to the intrinsic motivation and self-development factors of millennial employees, rather than focusing solely on job promotions as a form of reward. Training programs, flexible career development, and a work environment that supports work-life balance can improve the performance and loyalty of millennial employees. Originality/value – The original value of this research lies in its focus on the behavior and motivation of millennial employees in the Indonesian banking sector, which shows that performance is more influenced by intrinsic motivation than by opportunities for promotion.

Abstract

Purpose – This study investigates how service quality and promotion influence customer loyalty through the mediating role of customer satisfaction in the rapidly expanding halal coffee shop sector in Indonesia. Recent shifts in consumer behavior toward value-driven, ethical, and sustainability-oriented consumption have repositioned loyalty as a strategic indicator of long-term business resilience in Muslim-majority markets. Drawing on SERVQUAL, Expectation–Confirmation Theory, and principles of Shariah service ethics, this research employs a quantitative approach using 100 valid responses collected through non-probability and accidental sampling. Method – Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, path analysis, and Sobel testing to assess the significance of the mediating effects. Findings – The findings show that service quality and promotion positively and significantly affect customer satisfaction and loyalty, while satisfaction itself serves as a strong mediating mechanism that strengthens the indirect effects of both predictors.. Pratical Implication – This study contributes theoretically by integrating Islamic ethical perspectives into mainstream loyalty models, and practically by offering sustainability-driven implications for halal-based service enterprises. Originality/value – These results highlight the strategic importance of delivering trustworthy, ethical, and sustainable service experiences aligned with Shariah values to cultivate long-term customer attachment

Abstract

Purpose – This study examines how legal literacy shapes customer perceptions and sustainable engagement with Sharia-compliant financing at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Sungai Penuh. This research explores the factors that influence this literacy–perception gap. Method – Using a qualitative field approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with six BSI customers representing diverse financing experiences. The Miles–Huberman framework was used for iterative coding, reduction, and thematic interpretation. The analysis focused on identifying customers’ understanding of Sharia contracts, perceived challenges, and their implications for sustainable Islamic banking. Findings – The results demonstrate that customers possess general awareness of Sharia principles but have limited understanding of the technical components of financing contracts. Respondents frequently reported confusion regarding contract terminology, profit-sharing formulas, and administrative procedures. Trust in DSN-MUI fatwas and Sharia Supervisory Boards compensated for this lack of literacy, producing a trust-driven rather than knowledge-driven decision-making pattern. Additionally, customers highlighted issues such as complex documentation, slow approval processes, and ineffective communication, which negatively affect service experience and long-term engagement. Practical implications – Enhancing legal literacy through structured education, plain-language disclosures, digital communication, and streamlined administrative procedures can significantly strengthen customer participation and sustainability in Sharia financing. Originality/value – This study offers a socio-legal perspective rarely emphasized in Islamic finance literature by demonstrating how legal literacy directly influences perception, transparency, and sustainability. The literacy–perception–sustainability model proposed here provides a new analytical lens for evaluating customer behavior in Islamic banking
