Abstract

Abstract

Purpose – This study evaluates customer perceptions and experiences of Sharia-based service quality in Islamic financial institutions, emphasizing its role in fostering sustainable banking management. It explores how the alignment between service delivery and Islamic principles influences customer satisfaction, loyalty, and long-term institutional resilience. Method – A qualitative descriptive approach was adopted, utilizing in-depth interviews with selected customers who actively engage in banking transactions. Purposive sampling ensured the inclusion of participants capable of providing nuanced insights into service delivery and its Sharia compliance. Findings – Results reveal that adherence to Sharia principles, combined with professionalism, transparency, and customer-centered interactions, strengthens customer trust and satisfaction. Positive experiences often translate into loyalty and advocacy, while customer knowledge, cultural values, and needs further shape perceptions. The integration of Islamic ethical values into service quality emerges as a strategic driver for sustaining competitive advantage. Practical implications – Islamic banks should integrate Sharia compliance with a sustainability-oriented service culture through continuous staff training, customer education, and quality assurance mechanisms. This dual focus enhances not only regulatory adherence but also the long-term viability of Islamic financial institutions. Originality/value – This research extends the literature on Islamic service quality by linking Sharia compliance to sustainable banking management, offering actionable insights for policymakers, managers, and practitioners seeking to optimize both customer experience and institutional sustainability

Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of job promotion on the performance of millennial employees in the banking sector, particularly at Bank BRI KC Maros, and to understand the extent to which millennial employees interest in job promotion affects their motivation and performance in the work environment. Method – This study uses a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression analysis method. Data was collected through questionnaires distributed to employees of Bank BRI KC Maros, then processed using SPSS version 25 to test the validity, reliability, and influence between the variables of promotion and employee performance. Findings – The results of the study indicate that promotion does not have a significant effect on employee performance at Bank BRI KC Maros. These findings indicate that millennial employees continue to work with high dedication even without the prospect of promotion, reflecting their intrinsic motivation and professionalism in carrying out their duties. Practical implications – The practical implication of this study is that banking management needs to pay more attention to the intrinsic motivation and self-development factors of millennial employees, rather than focusing solely on job promotions as a form of reward. Training programs, flexible career development, and a work environment that supports work-life balance can improve the performance and loyalty of millennial employees. Originality/value – The original value of this research lies in its focus on the behavior and motivation of millennial employees in the Indonesian banking sector, which shows that performance is more influenced by intrinsic motivation than by opportunities for promotion.

Abstract

Purpose – This study investigates how service quality and promotion influence customer loyalty through the mediating role of customer satisfaction in the rapidly expanding halal coffee shop sector in Indonesia. Recent shifts in consumer behavior toward value-driven, ethical, and sustainability-oriented consumption have repositioned loyalty as a strategic indicator of long-term business resilience in Muslim-majority markets. Drawing on SERVQUAL, Expectation–Confirmation Theory, and principles of Shariah service ethics, this research employs a quantitative approach using 100 valid responses collected through non-probability and accidental sampling. Method – Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, path analysis, and Sobel testing to assess the significance of the mediating effects. Findings – The findings show that service quality and promotion positively and significantly affect customer satisfaction and loyalty, while satisfaction itself serves as a strong mediating mechanism that strengthens the indirect effects of both predictors.. Pratical Implication – This study contributes theoretically by integrating Islamic ethical perspectives into mainstream loyalty models, and practically by offering sustainability-driven implications for halal-based service enterprises. Originality/value – These results highlight the strategic importance of delivering trustworthy, ethical, and sustainable service experiences aligned with Shariah values to cultivate long-term customer attachment

Abstract

Purpose – This study examines how legal literacy shapes customer perceptions and sustainable engagement with Sharia-compliant financing at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Sungai Penuh. This research explores the factors that influence this literacy–perception gap. Method – Using a qualitative field approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with six BSI customers representing diverse financing experiences. The Miles–Huberman framework was used for iterative coding, reduction, and thematic interpretation. The analysis focused on identifying customers’ understanding of Sharia contracts, perceived challenges, and their implications for sustainable Islamic banking. Findings – The results demonstrate that customers possess general awareness of Sharia principles but have limited understanding of the technical components of financing contracts. Respondents frequently reported confusion regarding contract terminology, profit-sharing formulas, and administrative procedures. Trust in DSN-MUI fatwas and Sharia Supervisory Boards compensated for this lack of literacy, producing a trust-driven rather than knowledge-driven decision-making pattern. Additionally, customers highlighted issues such as complex documentation, slow approval processes, and ineffective communication, which negatively affect service experience and long-term engagement. Practical implications – Enhancing legal literacy through structured education, plain-language disclosures, digital communication, and streamlined administrative procedures can significantly strengthen customer participation and sustainability in Sharia financing. Originality/value – This study offers a socio-legal perspective rarely emphasized in Islamic finance literature by demonstrating how legal literacy directly influences perception, transparency, and sustainability. The literacy–perception–sustainability model proposed here provides a new analytical lens for evaluating customer behavior in Islamic banking

Abstract

Purpose – To address this gap, this study situates the halal industry within the broader transformation of Islamic sustainable banking by examining how maqasid, technological infrastructure, and green economy alignment collectively shape sustainable value creation in the Islamic finance ecosystem. Method – Using a systematic literature review (SLR) following PRISMA protocols, 2020–2024 studies were identified, screened, and synthesized through a structured multi-stage process involving database triangulation (Scopus, WoS, Dimensions), keyword clustering, thematic coding, and cross-validation to derive four core analytical themes: maqasid as a normative foundation, halal industry transformation as a real-sector driver, technology as compliance infrastructure, and green economy alignment toward SDGs integration. Findings – Findings reveal that maqasid provides a coherent ethical framework for integrating sustainability into governance, while the halal industry acts as a catalyst for real-sector expansion that stimulates demand for sustainable Islamic financial products. Technology enhances shariah–sustainability compliance through digital auditability, blockchain-based transparency, and algorithmic risk management. Implication – Theoretically, this study proposes an integrated Islamic Sustainable Banking Model that connects maqasid-based governance, halal value chain development, and green financial instruments. Practically, the findings offer strategic implications for regulators and Islamic financial institutions to harmonize shariah–regulatory frameworks, scale green sukuk and waqf-linked financing, strengthen digital compliance systems, and advance Islamic finance as a driver of national and global sustainability transitions

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the role of technical competence and organizational commitment in enhancing teacher performance through the mediating role of self efficacy within the context of sustainable Sharia educational management.. Method – This study employs a quantitative approach using a saturated sampling technique involving 105 teachers at Madrasah Aliyah Madani Alauddin, Gowa Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM PLS). The analysis evaluates both direct and indirect relationships among the variables. Findings – The findings indicate that technical competence and organizational commitment significantly influence teacher performance both directly and indirectly through self efficacy. Technical competence significantly strengthens teachers’ confidence in performing instructional tasks, while organizational commitment fosters psychological attachment and responsibility toward institutional goals. Self efficacy plays a mediating role by strengthening the impact of both competence and organizational commitment on teacher performance.. Implication – These findings highlight the importance of integrating professional competence development, organizational commitment, and psychological empowerment in building sustainable Sharia educational management. Strengthening these dimensions contributes to improving teacher professionalism and sustaining the performance of Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Purpose –This study addresses the ethical erosion and dehumanizing tendencies of digitally mediated work (e.g., algorithmic control, gig arrangements, and transactional performance pressures) by formulating a Qur’anic management framework for sustainable work ethics grounded in amānah and integrity. It responds to the gap between prevailing digital work norms and Qur’anic moral ideals, with a focus on long-term organizational sustainability. Methods – Using a tafsīr maudhū‘ī (thematic) approach within qualitative library research, the study conducts a structured thematic synthesis: (i) selection of Qur’anic passages relevant to work, trust, justice, and responsibility; (ii) contextual reading through classical and contemporary tafsīr; and (iii) hermeneutic translation of ethical themes into management constructs and sustainability-oriented outcomes (governance, social well-being, and responsible conduct). Findings–The study constructs an integrative model comprising three pillars—al-‘adl (justice), al-amānah (trustworthy integrity), and mas’ūliyyah ijtimā‘iyyah (social responsibility)—operationalized as sustainability enablers in digital workplaces. Al-‘adl supports fair treatment and worker well-being in data-driven performance systems; al-amānah strengthens ethical governance and accountability under automation; and mas’ūliyyah ijtimā‘iyyah matches organizational behavior with collective benefit and CSR-like commitments. Practical Implications–The framework offers a sustainability-oriented paradigm for human resource management, ethical leadership, and organizational governance, enabling firms to mitigate digital-era risks by embedding justice, integrity, and collective responsibility into codes of ethics, evaluation systems, and digital-work policies. Originality/value–This study advances Islamic management scholarship by moving beyond normative exposition to propose an operational Qur’anic management framework that links Qur’anic ethics to sustainability outcomes in contemporary digital organizations

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to examine how the integration of sustainable Islamic marketing ethics through brand experience and social media strategies influences customer loyalty within the halal lifestyle industry, with a specific focus on the halal coffee sector in Indonesia. Method – A quantitative research design was employed using a survey-based approach, with data collected from consumers of halal coffee brands in Indonesia. The study applied Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze the relationships between multidimensional brand experience, Islamic ethical values embedded in social media marketing, customer engagement, trust, and sustainable customer loyalty. Findings – The results indicate that multidimensional brand experience—comprising sensory, affective, behavioral, and intellectual dimensions—significantly enhances customer engagement and trust when aligned with Islamic marketing ethics such as transparency (shiddiq), social responsibility, and Halalan-Thayyiban principles. Ethical social media content was found to strengthen emotional brand connections, which in turn plays a critical role in fostering sustainable customer loyalty. Practical implications – The findings suggest that KopiKudu can enhance customer loyalty by providing comprehensive brand experiences and implementing effective social media marketing strategies. Similar approaches can be applied by other coffee businesses to improve customer retention, engagement, and long-term commitment to the brand. Originality/value – This study contributes to the literature by integrating the effects of Brand Experience and Social Media Marketing on customer loyalty in the context of a local coffee shop. It highlights the importance of combining offline interactions with digital strategies to achieve sustainable customer loyalty
