Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of education on the dangers of bullying using audiovisual methods on adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes, considering that bullying is a serious psychosocial problem in schools which can cause long-term negative impacts such as trauma, decreased self-confidence, and reduced academic performance, and thus requires effective health education strategies to increase awareness and preventive attitudes. This study applied a Quasi-Experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group and involved 60 respondents selected through total sampling, divided into 30 adolescents in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. The intervention group received structured audiovisual-based education that presented material on the definition, types, impacts, and prevention strategies of bullying, while the control group did not receive any intervention. Data were collected using questionnaires on knowledge and attitudes and analyzed with the Wilcoxon test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that there was a significant increase in the knowledge and attitudes of the intervention group after receiving audiovisual education (Asymp. Sig = 0.000 < α = 0.05), whereas the control group did not experience significant changes due to the absence of intervention. These findings demonstrate that audiovisual education is more effective compared to conventional approaches because it combines visual and auditory stimulation, making learning materials easier to understand and remember, as well as more engaging for adolescents. In conclusion, audiovisual-based education is proven effective in improving adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes regarding the dangers of bullying, and its application should be considered as part of school-based health promotion programs, while future research can further explore its long-term effectiveness and the potential benefits of combining audiovisual methods with peer support and parental involvement in bullying prevention.

Abstract

Agricultural productivity is greatly influenced by plant health, including mustard greens (Brassica rapa), which are prone to leaf diseases and have high economic value. This study aims to develop a digital image-based classification system for mustard leaf diseases using a deep learning approach, particularly the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) VGG19 architecture, and to compare its performance with ResNet50 and VGG16 models. The dataset used consists of 999 images divided into two classes: healthy mustard leaves and diseased mustard leaves. The images were processed through preprocessing steps (resized to 224×224 and normalized), then split into training, validation, and testing sets (80:10:10). The VGG19 architecture was customized with additional layers such as Global Average Pooling and Dense layers, and trained for 50 epochs with a configuration of 32 filters, a dropout rate of 0.5, and a learning rate of 0.0003. The results showed that the VGG19 model achieved the highest validation accuracy of 96%, followed by VGG16 with 95%, and ResNet50 with 74%. Evaluation using a confusion matrix demonstrated that VGG19 exhibited the most stable and accurate classification performance in recognizing both classes. These findings reinforce the potential of VGG19 for developing automated and real-time plant disease detection systems. Furthermore, this study opens up opportunities for integration into agricultural Internet of Things (IoT) systems for continuous plant health monitoring, thereby assisting farmers in making faster and more accurate preventive decisions.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases and a major risk factor for severe complications such as stroke, kidney failure, and cardiovascular disorders. Its management requires long-term strategies that go beyond pharmacological treatment and rely heavily on patients’ ability to engage in effective self-management. However, low levels of self-efficacy and motivation often hinder patients’ adherence to treatment regimens and lifestyle modifications. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-efficacy, motivation, and self-management among hypertensive patients. An observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach was applied, involving 163 respondents recruited through total sampling. Data were collected using the General Self Efficacy Scale (GSES), the Treatment Self Regulation Questionnaire (TSRQ), and the Hypertension Self Management Behavior Questionnaire (HSMBQ). Statistical analysis was conducted using Spearman’s correlation test. The findings revealed significant relationships between self-efficacy and self-management (p=0.003) and between motivation and self-management (p=0.005). These results emphasize that enhancing patients’ psychological empowerment and motivation is essential for successful self-management of hypertension. The study suggests that comprehensive interventions integrating health education, family support, and motivational strategies are needed to strengthen patients’ adherence to healthy lifestyles and treatment regimens. By addressing these psychological and behavioral aspects, healthcare providers can help reduce the risk of complications and improve patients’ overall quality of life. Consequently, this research provides valuable insights and a scientific basis for designing more effective primary care interventions targeting hypertensive populations.

Abstract

Turnover intention has remained an emerging issue in university system every year in Nigeria. As the university system continue to experience increasing number of staff turnover, investigating some of the predictors of turnover intention become imperative. Therefore, this study examines the predictive ability of work group functioning and occupational stress on turnover among academic and non-academic staff in a Nigerian university. Cross-sectional design was utilized while purposive sampling technique was used to select the study population. Social Exchange Theory anchored the study. Data were collected from 250 academic and non-academic staff of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo using validated scales. Data collected were analysed using hierarchical multiple regression to test hypothesis that was accepted at p < .001 level of significance. The result indicated that work group functioning and occupational stress were statistically significant predictors of turnover intention among study participants. In addition, work group functioning and occupational stress were statistically significant  independently predictors of turnover intention among study participants. The study concludes that work group functioning and occupational stress are  marginally contributed to turnover intention among study participants. The study recommends that the Nigerian university HR strategies should include putting in place an enabling work environment that reduces stress and  turnover intention.

Abstract

Vaginal discharge is one of the most common reproductive health problems experienced by adolescent girls, often causing discomfort, reducing self-confidence, and potentially leading to more serious reproductive health issues if not properly managed. Limited knowledge and negative attitudes toward genital hygiene are among the contributing factors to its high prevalence. Health education using audiovisual media is considered an effective strategy for delivering health messages, as it combines visual and auditory elements that are more engaging, easier to understand, and capable of improving information retention. This study aims to analyze the effect of audiovisual-based health education on adolescent girls’ knowledge and attitudes regarding the prevention of vaginal discharge. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was applied, involving 60 students equally divided into intervention and control groups selected through total sampling. The research instrument consisted of validated and reliable questionnaires measuring knowledge and attitudes. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test, revealing a significant improvement in the intervention group after receiving audiovisual health education (p < 0.05), while no meaningful change occurred in the control group. These findings indicate that audiovisual health education is effective in enhancing adolescents’ understanding and fostering positive attitudes toward the prevention of vaginal discharge. Consequently, the approach is recommended for integration into school health programs and community-based interventions as an innovative and sustainable method to promote reproductive health among adolescents.

Abstract

The home-based food industry, including tofu and meatballs, plays an important role in supporting the local economy and overcoming environmental poverty challenges. This study aims to analyze the environmental impact of home-based tofu and meatball production using ISO and OpenLCA standards. The analysis covers all stages of production, from raw material acquisition, washing, grinding, mixing, filling, steaming, to cooling. The Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) results show that each stage contributes to the use of energy, air, and raw materials, with the steaming process having the greatest impact on the most dominant category compared to other stages. Recommended measures include energy efficiency through heat insulation and biogas use, selection of local suppliers, use of low-chemical raw materials, air washing recycling, and utilization of organic waste for compost or biogas. This study proves the need for sustainable production strategies in the home-based food industry, not only to minimize environmental impact, but also to strengthen competitiveness and local economic sustainability.

Abstract

Caregiver burden refers to the psychosocial strain experienced by caregivers as a result of their involvement in providing long-term care for older adults, both from a subjective and objective perspective. One factor assumed to influence the level of caregiver burden is leisure satisfaction, which reflects the positive perceptions that arise from engaging in leisure activities. The present study aims to examine whether leisure satisfaction has an effect on caregiver burden at PPRSLU Budi Sejahtera. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. A total of 40 respondents were recruited using a total sampling technique. The instruments applied were the Leisure Satisfaction Scale (LSS) and the Zarit Burden Interview. Simple linear regression analysis was conducted to assess the influence of leisure satisfaction (independent variable) on caregiver burden (dependent variable). The linearity test yielded a significance value of p = 0.771 (p > 0.05), indicating that leisure satisfaction did not have a significant effect on caregiver burden. Therefore, the proposed hypothesis was not supported. In conclusion, leisure satisfaction does not significantly affect caregiver burden. This study contributes to the literature on caregiver burden by demonstrating that leisure satisfaction alone does not explain the strain experienced by caregivers, suggesting that other factors need to be considered in understanding caregiver burden among those caring for older adults

Abstract

Tinea cruris is a fungal skin infection that often occurs in tropical regions, including Indonesia, with a relatively high prevalence in dormitory environments such as Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to determine the determinants influencing the incidence of suspected tinea cruris in male students. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design, involving 224 male students at the Nurul Huda Tanah Merah Islamic Boarding School using a total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses. The results of the regression analysis showed that personal hygiene and BMI were significantly associated with the incidence of tinea cruris. Personal hygiene was associated with a decrease in the incidence of tinea cruris, while BMI had a smaller effect. The regression model obtained proved significant, which means these factors have an important role in predicting the incidence of suspected tinea cruris. It can be concluded that poor personal hygiene and high BMI are the main factors contributing to the incidence of suspected tinea cruris in the Islamic boarding school environment. Therefore, the importance of hygiene interventions among students
