Abstract

The rapid growth of fisheries in Sorong city has led to severe marine pollution, especially elevated Cu II concentrations that exceed water‑quality standards and threaten both ecosystems and human health. This study aimed to develop an eco‑friendly adsorbent from agricultural waste, namely citric‑acid‑activated palm‑shell powder, for the removal of Cu II from fishing‑industry effluents. The palm‑shell powder was activated by immersion in 0.1 M citric acid for 24 h, which introduced carboxyl groups, eliminated impurities, and increased porosity and surface functionality, thereby enhancing Cu II sorption capacity. A full‑factorial experimental design was employed, testing three independent variables (adsorbent mass, solution pH, and temperature) each in triplicate, with a fixed contact time of 120 min, sample volume of 50 mL, and initial adsorbent pH 6. Optimal conditions were identified as 50 mg adsorbent (capacity = 8.354 mg L⁻¹, removal efficiency = 54.14 %), pH 9 (capacity = 10.69 mg L⁻¹, efficiency = 69.28 %), and 60 °C (capacity = 7.49 mg L⁻¹, efficiency = 48.56 %). The citric‑acid‑activated palm‑shell adsorbent demonstrated significant Cu II reduction in fishing‑effluent water and presents a low‑cost, locally available, and sustainable solution for the treatment of fisheries waste streams.

Abstract

COVID-19 vaccination is an essential measure to reduce virus transmission, decrease morbidity, and strengthen community immunity. Nevertheless, doubts remain among adolescents, influenced by their level of knowledge and attitudes toward the vaccine. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge and attitudes toward the COVID-19 vaccine through audiovisual media among adolescents at SMP Negeri 6 Probolinggo City. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group was employed, involving 50 respondents selected through total sampling, consisting of 25 students in the intervention group and 25 in the control group. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results indicated a significant difference in knowledge and attitudes in the intervention group before and after receiving audiovisual-based education (p < 0.05), while no meaningful change was observed in the control group. These findings highlight that audiovisual media is effective in improving adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccination.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of psychoeducation in enhancing parents’ understanding and skills in supporting early childhood reading development. The phenomenon underlying this research is the tendency of parents to demand that children be able to read prematurely, without considering the developmental stages of literacy. Such pressure often causes psychological stress for children and may hinder their long-term interest in reading. The participants of this study were parents of students at TK 'Aisyiyah G. The research employed a quasi-experimental method, with the intervention consisting of a psychoeducational program delivered in several sessions covering topics such as understanding early childhood, government policies on early childhood education, children’s psychological development, and strategies to foster reading interest and skills in young children. Data analysis revealed a significant increase in parents’ knowledge and attitudes after the psychoeducation, with the mean score rising from 46.53 (pre-test) to 54.31 (post-test), a difference of 7.78 points, and an effect size of r = 0.80. These findings demonstrate that psychoeducation effectively empowers parents to foster early literacy interest in their children. The study recommends integrating psychoeducational programs into community- and faith-based early childhood education curricula.

Abstract

The third trimester of pregnancy is often marked by heightened anxiety as mothers approach childbirth. Unmanaged anxiety may negatively affect both maternal psychological well-being and fetal health. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of deep breathing relaxation in reducing anxiety among third-trimester pregnant women. A pre-experimental design with one-group pretest–posttest was applied to 24 eligible participants. The intervention consisted of deep breathing exercises conducted for two weeks, 2–3 times per week, each lasting 10–15 minutes. Anxiety levels were assessed using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Results revealed a decrease in mean anxiety scores from 11.12 (pretest) to 8.08 (posttest), with a mean reduction of 3.04 points. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference (p = 0.000, p < 0.05) between pre- and post-intervention scores. These findings confirm that deep breathing relaxation is effective in lowering anxiety during the third trimester of pregnancy. Practical implications highlight the importance of incorporating this technique into antenatal care programs, not only as a relaxation strategy but also as a structured component of maternal education and psychological support prior to delivery.

Abstract

Stress and burnout levels among medical students are among the highest. The numerous learning methods and the heavy academic demands experienced by students cause them to experience physical, mental, and emotional fatigue, leading to burnout. This study aims to determine the differences in student burnout among each class of students at the Faculty of Medicine, Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra. The research method used was descriptive analytic with a cross-sectional design. The sampling method used was simple random sampling. The results of this study show a profile of burnout among UMSU Medical Faculty students, most dominantly found were engaged in the class of 2022 (18 students) , ineffective in the class of 2022 (11 students) , overextended in the class of 2023 (37 students) , disengaged in the class of 2024 (5.6%) , and burnout in the class of 2021 (37 students) 56.1%. The dimensions of burnout among UMSU Medical Faculty students indicate high levels of exhaustion (fatigue) in the 2021 intake (62 respondents (93.9%), high levels of cynicism (cynicism) in the 2021 intake (37 respondents (56.1%), and high levels of professional efficacy (professional efficacy) in the 2023 intake (61 respondents (92.4%). This study shows a significant difference between student burnout levels in each UMSU Medical Faculty student cohort with a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05). Conclusion: Statistically, there is a significant difference between student burnout levels in each UMSU Medical Faculty student cohort.
