Abstract

School-aged children are vulnerable to verbal abuse in educational settings, which can have more serious consequences than physical abuse because it damages mental health and self-confidence. Verbal abuse of school-aged children needs to be addressed immediately because it can damage self-confidence and disrupt emotional and social development at a crucial stage of character formation. A preliminary study at UPTD SPF SDN Cindogo 1 in Bondowoso Regency indicated low self-confidence among students due to verbal abuse. This study aims to analyze the relationship between verbal abuse and self-confidence in school-aged children at UPTD SPF SDN Cindogo 1 in Bondowoso Regency. This study employs a quantitative correlational cross-sectional design. The study population and sample consist of all students at UPTD SPF SDN Cindogo 1 in Bondowoso District, totaling 97 respondents, using total sampling technique. Data were collected through verbal abuse and self-confidence questionnaires, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Spearman Rho test with a significance level of α=0.05. It was found that 65% of students experienced moderate verbal abuse, and 35% experienced severe verbal abuse. Regarding self-confidence levels, 56% had moderate self-confidence, 29% had low self-confidence, and 15% had high self-confidence. The Spearman Rho test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant relationship. The correlation coefficient obtained was -0.343, indicating a moderate, significant negative correlation between verbal abuse and self-confidence among school-aged children at UPTD SPF SDN Cindogo 1 in Bondowoso District. An increase in verbal aggression is correlated with a decrease in self-confidence. Fostering empathy and making schools safe and enjoyable places will have a positive impact on their mental and social development.

Abstract

Quarter life crisis (QLC) is a developmental crisis phase in early adulthood characterized by anxiety, confusion about life direction, and social pressures, all of which can contribute to low self-esteem. Students of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Muhammadiyah University of Jember are also not exempt from this phenomenon, which may impact their psychosocial and academic well-being. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach to analyze the relationship between QLC and the risk of low self-esteem among these students. The study population comprised all active students totaling 553 individuals, with a sample of 232 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Quarter Life Crisis Scale and Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale questionnaires, and analyzed with the Spearman Rank (Rho) test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The study revealed that most students were in the low QLC category (46%) and had moderate levels of low self-esteem risk (65%). There was a tendency for higher levels of QLC to be associated with higher risks of low self-esteem. The Spearman test showed p = 0.000 (<0.05) with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.523, indicating a significant, strong, and positive relationship between QLC and the risk of low self-esteem. There is a significant relationship between quarter life crisis and the risk of low self-esteem among students of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Muhammadiyah University of Jember. The findings of this study recommend strengthening the role of academic advisors in providing psychosocial support, as well as encouraging active parental involvement through open communication and emotional support to help students cope with Quarter Life Crisis and prevent the risk of low self-esteem.

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among adolescent girls is a serious concern due to its long-term implications for reproductive health. This study aims to describe the knowledge, attitudes, and nutritional status of adolescent girls regarding CED at SMAN 2 Mamuju. A descriptive survey method with a quantitative approach was employed. The sample consisted of 165 female students from grades X and XI, selected through proportional simple random sampling. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires and anthropometric measurements, including Body Mass Index for Age (BMI/Age) and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC). The results showed that the majority of respondents had moderate knowledge (50.9%) and a positive attitude (97.6%) toward CED. Nutritional status based on BMI/Age indicated that most adolescents had good nutritional status (81.2%), whereas MUAC measurements revealed that 47.9% were at risk of CED. These findings highlight a discrepancy between knowledge and positive attitudes versus actual practices in maintaining proper nutrition among adolescent girls. Continuous, practice-based nutrition education involving schools, healthcare providers, and families is needed to reduce the prevalence of CED in this population.

Abstract

Symptomatic bradycardia is a condition of slowed heart rate accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, and activity intolerance. Non-pharmacological interventions such as progressive mobilization and energy management are believed to improve patient hemodynamics. This study aimed to analyze the effects of progressive mobilization and energy management on hemodynamic parameters in a patient with symptomatic bradycardia. A descriptive case study was conducted on a 71-year-old male patient with symptomatic bradycardia, hypertension, and other comorbidities treated in the High Care Unit (HCU) of Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital. Interventions were carried out over three days, including passive exercises, active exercises, sitting, and structured energy-based activity management. Parameters of blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation were recorded before and after the intervention. Results showed an increase in Barthel Index score from 2 to 8, stabilization of blood pressure and heart rhythm, and improved respiration. Progressive mobilization and energy management are effective in stabilizing hemodynamics and enhancing activity tolerance in symptomatic bradycardia patients.

Abstract

Limited maternal knowledge of infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices contributes to inadequate dietary intake and poor nutritional status among children under two years old. Emotional-Demonstration (Emo-Demo), an educational approach that combines practical demonstrations with emotional engagement, has shown promise in improving feeding behaviors. This study aimed to assess the effect of IYCF education using the Emo-Demo method on children’s energy intake and nutritional status. A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted at the East Purwokerto I Health Center between May and August 2024. The intervention consisted of seven educational sessions. Energy intake was measured using a single 24-hour food recall, and nutritional status was assessed using weight-for-age z-scores (WAZ) obtained with a digital baby scale. A total of 18 mothers of children under two were recruited using purposive sampling. Paired t-tests were used for data analysis. Most mothers were aged 20–35 years (77.8%) and were housewives. The Emo-Demo intervention significantly increased mean energy intake (+239.6 ± 239.9 kcal/day, p<0.001, d=0.72) and improved WAZ scores (+0.23 ± 0.27, p=0.002, d=0.23), indicating positive effects on both dietary intake and nutritional status.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus remains one of the most widely recognized health problems worldwide, with highly diverse morbidity. Therefore, appropriate management and prevention efforts are required, one of which is improving patients’ knowledge through health education interventions using non-pharmacological approaches, such as herbal therapy derived from corn silk (Zea mays L.). This study aimed to determine the effect of health education on the utilization of corn silk as an antidiabetic agent on the knowledge level of patients with diabetes mellitus in Lito Village, Paguyaman Pantai District. This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pre-test and post-test method. The sampling technique used was total sampling, involving 38 respondents. The instrument used was a questionnaire, supported by standard operating procedures (SOPs) and leaflet media. The results showed that before the health education intervention, 37 respondents (97.4%) had poor knowledge, while only 1 respondent (2.6%) had good knowledge. After the health education intervention, the respondents’ knowledge level increased, with 36 respondents (94.7%) demonstrating good knowledge and only 2 respondents (5.3%) remaining in the poor knowledge category. The paired sample t-test analysis yielded a p-value of 0.000 (α < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of health education on the knowledge level of patients with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Regional asset management is a vital component in supporting the efficiency and quality of public services, particularly in the health sector. According to the 2024 Audit Report by the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK), significant weaknesses remain in the inventory and documentation of regional assets. This study aims to explore the dynamics, challenges, and strategies of asset management within the Health Office of North Toraja Regency. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, collecting data through in-depth interviews with key informants, including the head of the office, asset managers, heads of community health centers, and technical staff. Thematic analysis was applied through data reduction, categorization, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal that asset management faces challenges related to technical aspects, coordination mechanisms, and human resources. Key obstacles include the absence of standardized technical SOPs, limited staff capacity, and infrequent data updates. Strategies implemented include the formation of an inventory team and the issuance of a regulatory decree by the Regent. The study recommends strengthening the capacity of asset managers, developing specific SOPs for health assets, and establishing a more integrated and transparent asset information system. These efforts are essential to ensure optimal asset management that supports quality health services in mountainous regions.

Abstract

Early breastfeeding is beneficial for both mother and child because breast milk plays an important role in supporting the growth, well-being, survival of the baby, causing uterine contractions and preventing postpartum hemorrhage. Based on the results of the 2017 Indonesian Demographic Health Survey (SDKI), only 3.7% of babies received breast milk on the first day, while breastfeeding in the first 2 months of age was 64%, which then decreased in the following period of 3 months of age 45.5%, at the age of 4-5 months 13.9% and 6-7 months 7.8%. Meanwhile, there was an increase in the use of breast milk substitutes (PASI) commonly called formula or formula milk threefold in the period 2015 from 10.8% to 32.4% in 2017. The purpose of this study was to determine the Effectiveness of Giving Katuk Leaf Decoction on Breast Milk Production on the Third Day of Postpartum at the Bantur Community Health Center UPT, Malang Regency. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample in this study amounted to 30 people consisting of 15 experimental groups and 15 control groups. Conducted in May 2025. The results of the study showed that the average breast milk adequacy in breastfeeding mothers in the experimental group before giving katuk leaves was 6.60 and after giving katuk leaves was 8.47. In conclusion, giving katuk leaves has been proven effective in increasing breast milk adequacy in breastfeeding mothers.
