Abstract

Abstract

A Breastfeeding is one of the significant components in preventing stunting among under-five children. Breastmilk contains immune substances and nutrients that are suitable for the baby's needs. Therefore, the implementation of early breastfeeding initiation and exclusive breastfeeding is crucial. However, during the Covid-19 pandemic, breastfeeding became quite a worry for mothers because they were worried about the transmission of the coronavirus from mother to baby. With a qualitative approach, this study aimed to explore the knowledge of Posyandu cadres and under-five mothers regarding breastfeeding during the Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 10 cadres and 20 under-five mothers were involved as main informants. All interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. The data were analyzed through three stages, namely coding, categorization, and determining the theme. This study shows that all informants stated that mothers can transmit the coronavirus to their babies through breast milk. Most of the informants stated that mothers who were positive for Covid-19 were not allowed to breastfeed their babies, including early initiation of breastfeeding. In addition, the informants also argued that under six months infants can be fed with formula milk if the mother is confirmed positive for Covid-19. Therefore, it can be concluded that the level of knowledge of Posyandu cadres and mothers of toddlers regarding breastfeeding during the Covid-19 pandemic is still low. Health workers need to carry out health promotions and education to the public about breastfeeding during the Covid-19 pandemic so that the achievement of breastfeeding remains on target.

Introduction: Eating habits and nutritional status among adolescents in Mamuju, West Sulawesi, showed that adolescents with unhealthy eating habits tend to have a higher incidence of overweight and obesity compared to those with healthy eating habits. This underscores the need for early nutrition education for adolescents. This study aimed to explore the types of health and nutrition services received by adolescents at primary healthcare services in Mamuju District, West Sulawesi. Methods: An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design was used, combining cross-sectional and qualitative methods. The study involved 305 high school adolescents in Mamuju, selected through random sampling. Quantitative data were collected via surveys using structured questionnaires. Qualitative data were obtained from in-depth interviews with 8 key informants (health workers, teachers, and students) and focus group discussions (FGDs) with 8-10 participants per session, who were selected through purposive sampling to ensure diverse perspectives. Results: The results showed that the majority of adolescents accessed healthcare services through the Puskesmas (99.3%), as its easy access reported by 92.2% respondents. Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among adolescent girls is a serious concern due to its long-term implications for reproductive health. This study aims to describe the knowledge, attitudes, and nutritional status of adolescent girls regarding CED at SMAN 2 Mamuju. A descriptive survey method with a quantitative approach was employed. The sample consisted of 165 female students from grades X and XI, selected through proportional simple random sampling. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires and anthropometric measurements, including Body Mass Index for Age (BMI/Age) and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC). The results showed that the majority of respondents had moderate knowledge (50.9%) and a positive attitude (97.6%) toward CED. Nutritional status based on BMI/Age indicated that most adolescents had good nutritional status (81.2%), whereas MUAC measurements revealed that 47.9% were at risk of CED. These findings highlight a discrepancy between knowledge and positive attitudes versus actual practices in maintaining proper nutrition among adolescent girls. Continuous, practice-based nutrition education involving schools, healthcare providers, and families is needed to reduce the prevalence of CED in this population.
