Abstract

Retaining walls (DPT) are essential structural elements in geotechnical engineering that function to withstand lateral earth pressure, especially in areas with elevation differences or slopes that are at risk of landslides. This study aims to analyze and compare the stability of two types of retaining walls: gabion retaining walls and cantilever retaining walls, based on safety factors against overturning, sliding, and bearing capacity. The study was conducted at a construction site in Probolinggo Regency using secondary data consisting of borehole soil investigation data and design drawings. Calculations of active and passive earth pressures, moments, and safety factors were performed manually using the Rankine method. The results show that the cantilever retaining wall has a higher overturning stability of 3.2, compared to 2.73 for the gabion wall. The cantilever wall also has a sliding stability of 2.76 and can be more optimally adapted to the soil's bearing capacity through a foundation design yielding a value of 7.95, compared to the gabion wall’s sliding stability of 2.07 and bearing capacity of 3.4. Therefore, the cantilever retaining wall is selected as an alternative to the existing gabion wall, as it outperforms in all safety factor assessments, including overturning, sliding, and bearing stability.

Abstract

Cost overrun is a significant challenge in construction projects, including educational buildings, which results in budget cuts, project delays, and increased maintenance costs. This study analyzes cost overruns on three projects in Central Java: IAIN Kudus Integrated Laboratory Building (1%), UIN Walisongo Mahad Building (2.3%), and Rembang MIN 1 Class Building (10%). These three projects were chosen because they have varying scales of cost increases and different characteristics of educational buildings. The research used quantitative methods with a questionnaire involving 53 respondents from consultants and contractors. Data analysis was carried out by testing validity, reliability, correlation, and dominant factor analysis using SPSS. The research results show that the main factors causing cost overrun are design changes and non-compliance with schedules (0.77), delays in material delivery (0.76), as well as inadequate planning and delays in equipment delivery (0.74). Other factors include ineffective decisions, poor financial management, and suboptimal cost control. Mitigation recommendations include improving the quality of planning, strict cost control, implementing systematic risk management, and utilizing BIM technology to increase estimation accuracy and decision-making efficiency to reduce the risk of cost overrun.

Abstract

Material Requirement Planning (MRP) is a critical approach for managing material procurement in construction projects to ensure timely delivery, avoid surplus inventory, and optimize logistical costs. In construction, inefficient planning often results in material shortages, excess stock, and delayed project completion, contributing to significant cost overruns. The choice of lot sizing strategy within the MRP system plays a central role in balancing ordering frequency and storage costs. While classical methods such as Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), and  Lot for Lot (LFL) are widely known, limited studies have applied a comparative evaluation of these methods specifically in construction logistics under real-world constraints. Most prior research emphasizes manufacturing applications, leaving a knowledge gap in dynamic, schedule-driven environments like public infrastructure projects. This study evaluates two lot sizing strategies, EOQ and LFL, using empirical data from a palm oil mill construction project in Mandailing Natal, Indonesia. A quantitative descriptive method was applied, utilizing data from master production schedules, bill of quantities (BOQ), and actual procurement cost records. The evaluation measured total procurement costs, ordering frequency, and inventory levels. The findings reveal that the LFL strategy results in the lowest total logistic cost at Rp 685,976,950.54, compared to EOQ at Rp 769,658,817.20, due to the complete elimination of holding costs despite higher ordering frequency. This implies that LFL is more suitable for government construction projects with short-term schedules and varying material demands, where minimizing storage risk is prioritized. The study contributes to procurement optimization under Indonesia’s public goods and services framework and recommends selective lot sizing strategies based on material characteristics and project dynamics.

Abstract

In construction projects, particularly in the development of the Co-Working Space in Lamongan Regency, discrepancies between the planned schedule and actual outcomes often occur, both in terms of time and cost. This is generally caused by ineffective planning and control during project execution. This study aims to analyze cost and time management of the project to achieve more efficient and timely implementation. The research method applies the Critical Path Method (CPM) as the primary approach to determine the critical path and minimum project duration, complemented by the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) to estimate time uncertainties. The results show that using CPM, the critical path involves activities A, B, D, F, G, E, V, X, AA, AB, AD, AE, AG, AK, AT, BA, AU, AV, AY, BB, BD, AZ, BH, and BE with a total duration of 136 days, saving 22 days from the initial plan of 158 days. Using PERT with the same critical path, the project is estimated to be completed in 148 days, saving 10 days, with a cumulative distribution value of 3.7, indicating a 99.98% probability of project completion before the target date. In conclusion, CPM and PERT are effective for controlling project cost and time, with CPM providing greater time efficiency.

Abstract

Trans Jateng Corridor VII Solo–Wonogiri is a public transportation service that plays an important role in supporting the mobility of the community in the Surakarta area and its surroundings, although it still faces challenges in terms of operational efficiency and user satisfaction. This study aims to evaluate the operational and service performance of the corridor and to develop recommendations for improving service quality. The study was conducted in accordance with the Director General of Transportation Regulation No. 687 of 2002 and the Ministry of Transportation Regulation No. 10 of 2012, with data collection through dynamic surveys, static surveys, and user satisfaction questionnaires. Service performance analysis used the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) method to obtain a comprehensive overview of customer satisfaction. The research results indicate that most operational indicators have met the established standards, although some indicators such as load factor, number of passengers, and headway are still below the ideal target. The user satisfaction level based on the CSI method reached 76.85% and falls into the satisfied category; however, several service aspects such as seatbelts, bus capacity, standing area size, and service information still need improvement. Therefore, strategic recommendations have been formulated, focusing on improving operational efficiency and service quality to meet public expectations and enhance the comfort of Trans Jateng users.

Abstract

Labor leveling in construction projects is a crucial strategy to optimize resources, improve work efficiency, and reduce excessive workforce fluctuations. However, this aspect is often overlooked due to the project's primary focus on timely completion rather than efficient labor utilization. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of labor leveling in enhancing construction project efficiency. The method used is a case study of a Guest House construction project in Balikpapan with a total area of 1,514.875 m² and a duration of 308 calendar days. Microsoft Project was used to perform resource leveling through task rescheduling. The results showed that before leveling, the maximum number of workers reached 157 with uneven distribution. After leveling, the peak workforce was reduced to 125 workers, with the highest concentration occurring in week 15. Although it had no direct impact on labor wages, the implementation of leveling successfully reduced transportation and accommodation costs from Rp 1,886,830,000 to Rp 455,569,000. Therefore, labor leveling is proven to improve project efficiency and reduce potential resource waste in construction projects.

Abstract

Mas Kus Layer Chicken Farm uses groundwater to meet its clean water needs. There is not enough groundwater on this farm to meet all clean water demands. To increase the availability of clean water, a Rainwater Harvesting (PAH) system was installed as a backup plan and an effort to use natural resources. A hydrological approach was used to analyze the maximum daily rainfall, which was then used to collect rainwater. This study used a quantitative descriptive methodology, and the rainfall of Mas Kus Layer Chicken Farm, the roof area of the building, the capacity of the reservoir, and the need for clean water provided supporting data. The results of the analysis showed that the potential for rainwater harvesting could meet up to 99% of the total clean water needs at Mas Kus Layer Chicken Farm. The storage system used is a Ground water Tank measuring 10x10x2.26 m. With this capacity, the rainwater that can be collected reaches 7,530 liters/day or 7.53 m3/day so that in one month it can accommodate around 226 m3/month.

Abstract

Indonesia’s dependency on imported petroleum asphalt for road infrastructure development presents a sustainability challenge. Utilizing local resources such as Lawele natural asphalt (Asbuton) offers a strategic alternative to reduce this reliance. This study aims to evaluate the performance of Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) mixtures using pure Lawele-modified asphalt (PMA 2%) and compare it with mixtures made with unmodified Pen 60/70 asphalt and polymer-modified asphalt Starbit E-55. The research was conducted through a laboratory experimental approach using standard testing methods (AASHTO and SNI). The SMA mixtures were tested for Marshall Stability, draindown, Indirect Tensile Strength Ratio (ITSR), and Cantabro loss. Results showed that the Starbit E-55 mixture achieved the highest stability (707 kg), followed by PMA 2% (678 kg), and Pen 60/70 (638 kg). Both PMA 2% and Starbit E-55 mixtures exhibited 0% draindown, superior to the 0.022% of Pen 60/70. The PMA 2% mixture achieved an ITSR value of 82.55% and the lowest Cantabro loss at 1.97%, indicating excellent resistance to stripping and abrasion. In conclusion, the use of PMA 2% provides comparable or even superior structural and functional performance to synthetic polymer-modified asphalt and presents a more environmentally friendly binder alternative.

Abstract

Nganjuk Regency is currently facing significant challenges related to road infrastructure damage, which hinders the distribution of agricultural products. This study aims to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of Two methods used to assess pavement condition are the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) and the Surface Distress Index (SDI), applied to the Lengkong–Jatikalen road segment. A quantitative descriptive approach with a case study method was employed. Data were collected through field surveys and traffic observations. The observed average daily traffic volume reached 5,640 vehicles per day, equivalent to 2,934 passenger car units (PCU) per day, indicating a high traffic category. The dominant types of damage were alligator cracking (49%), potholes (28%), and patches (11%). The evaluation results showed an average PCI value of 64.4 (good condition) and an SDI value of 38.6 (good condition). Differences between the PCI and SDI methods are evident in certain segments, such as STA 0+100–0+200, which received a PCI score of 48 (fair) and an SDI score of 65 (moderate), and STA 0+000–0+100, which received a PCI score of 44 (fair) and an SDI score of 25 (good). Both methods provide different insights into road conditions, with PCI being more sensitive to complex damage and more suitable for long-term planning, while SDI is more efficient for quick field inspections. Maintenance recommendations include routine maintenance for minor damage and partial reconstruction for subsidence damage. This research can serve as a foundation for more efficient and sustainable road maintenance planning.
