Abstract

The application of inter-religious tolerance in Kayuapu has been distorted. This research is a qualitative field research. Sources of the data were collected from observations or documentation and interviews with Muslim and Christian communities in the Kayuapu Kulon, Kudus Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. The result is revealed that the tolerance understood by the Kayuapu community are provides freedom for anyone to embrace religion and the practice of worship according to their own beliefs. But some residents also practice religious conversion repeatedly. The contributing factors are: first, environmental factors or playmates; second, changes in status such as marriage and divorce; third, economic factors (poverty); and fourth, the lack of understanding of religion.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of university students in fighting for their aspiration to uphold Islam in the public sphere. For their presence, mosque and campuses become their ideological base camp and Islamic thought. Islam and young people have become a special identity that negotiates with modernity. This study aims to provide a critical view on the prolongation of youth in understanding the reality of Islam in the public sphere, affected by the social and political situation in Indonesia during the New Order and post-reform era. In addition, it would provide a perspective on the identity of young people who take Islamic symbols in promoting for their ideation into the public sphere Yogyakarta City is selected as fieldwork location because the progressiveness of youth and Islam is increasing, and as the city of education centre Yogyakarta plays a role in transforming the Islamic culture of a new model for young people.

Abstract

This study aims to find out and to describe the media and its contribution in internalizing the value of religious pluralism in Indonesia. This article used a descriptive qualitative method, with the Research library approach. The finding showed that mass media in its role have two tendencies, 1) creating potential conflicts, and 2) religious pluralistic harmony and awareness. The mass media has a role to inform and educate the public about the reality of pluralism and plurality of religions in Indonesia. In plural society, mass media plays an important role in creating peaceful conditions. The contribution of the media should be directed to consider the public interest in creating peace conditions. The existence of mass media as reported through TV, radio and newspapers contributes to the internalization of the values of religious pluralism on the grounds that the mass media informs the public that the difference in Indonesia is a necessity. The implications of this are people will be able to recognize, accept and appreciate the differences that exist, whether differences in race, language, color, culture and religion.

Abstract

This article explores the relationship between God, man, and nature in the Quran in Toshihiko Izutsu's view. Using semantic analysis, this Japanese scholar used the analytic principle to get the Quran interprets its own concepts and speaks for itself. For that reason, the use of Arabic poetry to understand the basic meaning of an important word and in turn, the relational meaning needs to be presented by knowing the semantic field of the researched dilemma. From a hermeneutic point of view, Izutsu's thought shows parallels with the Muslim scholar's interpretation of the theme. By looking at the relationship between God and man in the four skeletons, ontologies, masters, ethics, and communicative, Izutsu asserts that the holy book of the Quran is not only ethical but also practice.

Abstract

In this contemporary life, television becomes an effective media of the da’wa or proliferation. The flourishing some of Islamic programs also effects to the order of the religious public life in Indonesian society. Using the descriptive analytical research, this essay investigates the process of religious proliferation program who become popular in society. It is started from the objective of some television channel to show “kuliah subuh”, a religious speech from an expert people that understand about Islamic religion or ustad after the dawn. Then the writer tries to find an effect of the media especially television to the audiences from the message of the program and their daily life expressions. Finally, “kuliah subuh” appears as a mediated religion which produces certain effects on religion in order to adapt it to television formats. It make the birth of transformations and paradoxes within the institutional model of religiosity.

Abstract

This article aims to initiate the integration of sincere concepts and exchange behaviorism as a medium to construct one's mentality. Both concepts are useful in balancing material and spiritual aspects in a person. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analytical methods. The results of this study as well as an auto-critique of Homans theory because the basic George Caspar Homans theory of exchange theory who came from exchange behaviorism was too oriented to the material aspect as a social driver. The results show that the concepts of sincerity and exchange behaviorism cannot be separated because they will have an impact on the partiality of life. Therefore, a necessity in growing the balance of life must pay attention to the material aspects and spiritual aspects.

Abstract

This article aims to reveal the social phenomenon of prostitution in Lorong Indah Pati. As a human, especially a religious person, commercial sex workers have the right to seek meaningful living. This research uses qualitative approach with data collection technique through observation, interview and documentation. Informants in this study are commercial sex workers in the Localization of Lorong Indah Pati, religious leaders and the surrounding community. The results show that the process of searching meaning in life in order to maintain the existence of religious needs remains the latent side behind the vulgar display of commercialization of their bodies. That religion gave birth to a pattern of searching for different meanings of life for commercial sex workers. Among other things, the use of the media, television and radio as well as print media (newspaper) as one of the instruments that have an important role to meet the needs of community religion in the community of PSK in Lorong Indah Pati

Abstract

This article describes the renewal of Moeslim's Islamic thinking about transformative theology, and aims to introduce and revitalize Islamic thought that is almost forgotten. Islam as a foundation for the life of Muslims should not only prioritize the hablum min Allah and forget the hablum min an-nas, both must be balanced. This research is a reseacrh library, and the work of Moeslim Abdurrahman as the primary data. According to Moeslim worship in particular 'must be balanced with social care. This has become Moeslim's anxiety when he sees the reality of Muslims today being colonized by the flow of modernization which has led to the development of western capitalism, thus impacting increasing poverty and ignorance in Indonesia. This study yields findings that in transformative theology Moeslim offers reforms in the field of economics and education through community empowerment with job creation and the realization of a new model of pesantren which gives birth to Muslim thinkers based on liberation of oppression as the main objective of transformative theology.
