The mission of the International Journal of Literature and Language Studies (IJLLS) is to provide readers with the development of language studies in linguistics and literature. In addition to manuscripts that center on the study, we welcome manuscripts on a wide range of topics relating to the technology used for language development, cultural impact on languages, computational linguistics, and philosophy of language. IJLLS publishes scholarly conceptual, theoretical, and empirical manuscripts on the study of language and focused on literature and linguistic analysis and development. Submissions to the journal should be readable and understandable by a wide audience. Manuscripts should therefore also focus on analysis or illustration of the issues covered, rather than merely providing a mathematical or technical coverage, which would be more suitable for a specialist journal. All manuscripts are submitted and reviewed electronically. We provide our published authors with both a quality publication and the widespread readership that comes from publishing all manuscripts online within a few weeks of acceptance. This approach ensures that published works are read and cited by the widest possible audience.

Abstract

The present study explores grammatical transformations in French-Russian literary translation through a corpus-based approach. Due to significant structural differences between French and Russian, translators frequently apply various grammatical transformations to preserve meaning, style, and communicative effect in translated literary texts. The research analyzes parallel corpora consisting of original French literary works and their Russian translations to identify the most common transformation techniques. The findings demonstrate that transposition, sentence restructuring, grammatical substitution, omission, and addition are widely employed to achieve equivalence between the source and target texts. The study highlights the importance of corpus linguistics as a reliable methodological tool for investigating translation patterns and understanding the relationship between linguistic structure and translation practice. The results contribute to the development of translation studies and provide insights into the grammatical adaptation of literary texts across languages [1–5].

Abstract

The translation of idiomatic expressions remains one of the most complex tasks in translation studies due to the close relationship between language and culture. French idioms often contain cultural references, historical allusions, and figurative meanings that do not have direct equivalents in the Uzbek language. This study examines the linguistic and cultural challenges encountered in translating French idioms into Uzbek and explores the strategies used by translators to preserve meaning and communicative effect. The article highlights the importance of cultural competence, contextual understanding, and translation equivalence in achieving accurate and natural translations. The findings suggest that successful translation of idioms requires not only linguistic knowledge but also a deep understanding of the cultural backgrounds of both source and target languages [1–4].

Abstract

Academic stress has become one of the most significant psychological challenges affecting university students worldwide. The increasing demands of higher education, including examinations, assignments, academic competition, and future career concerns, contribute to elevated stress levels among students. This study investigates the major sources of academic stress and explores the coping strategies employed by university students to manage stress effectively. A review of contemporary literature indicates that academic stress negatively influences students’ mental health, academic performance, motivation, and overall well-being. The findings suggest that effective coping mechanisms such as time management, social support, physical activity, and psychological resilience can significantly reduce the adverse effects of academic stress. The study highlights the importance of institutional support systems and stress management programs in promoting students’ academic success and psychological health.

Abstract

This article examines the grammatical categories used to express future time in the Uzbek and English languages. Future time is an important grammatical concept that enables speakers to refer to actions, events, and situations that will occur after the moment of speaking. The study explores the morphological and syntactic means employed in both languages to indicate future actions. In Uzbek, future time is primarily expressed through specific verb forms and affixes, whereas in English it is conveyed through a variety of grammatical structures, including modal auxiliaries, tense forms, and periphrastic constructions. By comparing these mechanisms, the article identifies both similarities and differences in the expression of futurity. The findings demonstrate that while both languages possess effective means of expressing future time, they differ significantly in their grammatical organization and usage patterns. The comparative analysis contributes to a deeper understanding of the linguistic features of Uzbek and English and provides useful insights for language learners, translators, and researchers in the field of comparative linguistics.

Abstract

This study examines the role of verbal aspect in Nikolai Gogol’s poem Dead Souls. The analysis demonstrates that the opposition between perfective and imperfective verb forms serves as an important stylistic device for developing the plot and portraying characters. Perfective verbs convey completed actions, narrative dynamics, and the progression of events, whereas imperfective verbs reveal the characters’ inner world, behavioral traits, and habitual actions. Through the system of verbal forms, the author creates vivid portraits of landowners, officials, and the protagonist, Pavel Chichikov. The study concludes that verbal aspect performs not only a grammatical but also a significant artistic function, helping to express the author’s intentions and the ideological content of the work.

Abstract

This research paper analyzes the specific linguopragmatic features of instructional discourse in digital communication, in particular in messengers. The article highlights the hybrid form of instructions in messenger communication, which, unlike traditional written texts, combines the brevity, situationality, and dialogic nature of oral speech. The results show that digital instructional discourse serves to organize communication quickly and effectively, based on the principle of "minimum form and maximum pragmatic effect".

Abstract

This article investigates the etymological origins and semantic evolution of selected lexical units that function as dysphemisms in English and Uzbek. While dysphemisms are extensively studied in pragmatics for their role in face-threatening acts and social distancing, their historical linguistic development remains less explored. Through an examination of historical usage and semantic shifts, this study aims to identify common etymological pathways, such as semantic pejoration, metaphorical extension, and association with taboo or low-status concepts. The findings reveal that many dysphemisms originate from terms initially neutral or descriptive, acquiring their derogatory force through societal reinterpretation and metaphor. Understanding these etymological roots provides deeper insight into the cultural and historical underpinnings of linguistic aggression.
