The mission of the International Journal of Literature and Language Studies (IJLLS) is to provide readers with the development of language studies in linguistics and literature. In addition to manuscripts that center on the study, we welcome manuscripts on a wide range of topics relating to the technology used for language development, cultural impact on languages, computational linguistics, and philosophy of language. IJLLS publishes scholarly conceptual, theoretical, and empirical manuscripts on the study of language and focused on literature and linguistic analysis and development. Submissions to the journal should be readable and understandable by a wide audience. Manuscripts should therefore also focus on analysis or illustration of the issues covered, rather than merely providing a mathematical or technical coverage, which would be more suitable for a specialist journal. All manuscripts are submitted and reviewed electronically. We provide our published authors with both a quality publication and the widespread readership that comes from publishing all manuscripts online within a few weeks of acceptance. This approach ensures that published works are read and cited by the widest possible audience.

Abstract

Abstract. This paper investigates dialectal variation in contemporary English from a sociolinguistic perspective. English, as a global language, demonstrates extensive variation influenced by geographical, social, historical, and cultural factors. The study explores major types of English dialects, including regional, social, ethnic, and global varieties commonly known as World Englishes, and examines how variation manifests at phonological, lexical, and grammatical levels. A qualitative descriptive methodology is applied, based on secondary linguistic literature and comparative analysis of established English varieties.

Abstract

Abstract: Conceptual equivalence remains one of the most challenging issues in literary translation due to the interaction of linguistic, cognitive, cultural, and aesthetic factors. Within the anthropocentric paradigm, translation is viewed as a human-centered process in which translators actively interpret and reconstruct meanings according to their cognitive experience and cultural competence. The present study investigates the problem of conceptual equivalence in literary translation from an anthropocentric perspective. Employing a mixed-methods research design, the study analyzes conceptual units extracted from English and Uzbek literary texts and their translated versions. Quantitative analysis identifies the frequency of translation strategies used to achieve conceptual equivalence, while qualitative analysis explores cognitive mechanisms underlying translators’ decisions. The findings indicate that conceptual equivalence is achieved primarily through cultural adaptation and explicitation rather than direct lexical correspondence. The research contributes to contemporary translation studies by highlighting the role of cognition, culture, and human perception in literary translation.

Abstract

This article examines the philosophical and aesthetic dimensions of the protagonist in Oscar Wilde's fairy tale The Happy Prince. The study explores how Wilde constructs the image of the Happy Prince as a complex symbolic figure embodying aesthetic beauty, moral consciousness, social responsibility, and spiritual transformation. Using philosophical hermeneutics, aesthetic criticism, and textual analysis, the research investigates the interaction between Victorian aestheticism and ethical humanism represented in the protagonist's character. The findings reveal that the Happy Prince undergoes a significant transformation from a passive symbol of material beauty into an active agent of compassion and sacrifice. The study demonstrates that Wilde challenges the doctrine of "Art for Art's Sake" by integrating ethical values into aesthetic experience. Through symbolism, allegory, and Christian motifs, the protagonist emerges as a multidimensional figure whose identity transcends conventional fairy-tale archetypes. The research concludes that the image of the Happy Prince represents Wilde's synthesis of beauty, morality, and social criticism, contributing to broader discussions in literary aesthetics and philosophical criticism.

Abstract

This article investigates how politeness strategies are changing in the digital age due to the rise of online communication. While traditional politeness relies on face-to-face cues like tone of voice and gestures, digital communication lacks these physical elements. Using a corpus of 45,000 words from academic and social media interactions, this article analyzes how people adapt. The results show that digital politeness is a highly structured system. Interlocutors systematically use emojis as pragmatic softeners to reduce the bluntness of text messages. Additionally, the study identifies chronemic hedging intentionally delaying responses as a new way to show respect for another person’s time.

Abstract

This article provides a theoretical and analytical discussion of developing English language teachers’ professional and methodological preparedness for the effective implementation of differentiated instruction in higher education institutions. English language groups in higher education often have the characteristics of mixed-ability classrooms, where students differ in terms of language proficiency, academic preparedness, learning needs, motivation, and communicative abilities. In such conditions, differentiated instruction is regarded as an important approach that enables English language lessons to be adapted to students’ actual needs. However, the effective implementation of this approach requires not only theoretical knowledge but also a set of professional and methodological competencies, including diagnostic assessment, flexible lesson design, differentiated assessment, individualized feedback, the use of digital resources, and reflective practice. The article analyzes the role of teacher preparedness in implementing differentiated instruction based on the views of Ahearn, Benothmane, Little, Massey, Morrison-Shuford, Cressman, Ali, Van Petten, and other researchers. The scientific and methodological novelty of the article lies in the proposal of a five-stage professional and methodological model for developing English language teachers’ preparedness for differentiated instruction in higher education. This model includes diagnostic assessment, needs-based professional development, methodological coaching, professional learning communities, and reflective redesign. The proposed model can support English language teachers in implementing differentiated instruction systematically, consciously, and methodologically in their teaching practice.

Abstract

The article analyzes how historiography in the scholarly-cultural milieu of Herat reached a new qualitative and substantive stage during the reign of Sultan Husayn Mirza. Owing to Alisher Navoi’s direct patronage and scholarly-educational initiatives, the works of Mirkhwand, Khwandamir, Kamoliddin Abdurazzoq Samarqandi, Davlatshoh Samarqandi, and Zayniddin Vosifi consolidated source-based analysis, comparative approaches, and methods for identifying causal relationships. The study outlines the content and features of Ravzat us-safo, Habib us-siyar, Matlaʿ as-saʿdayn va majmaʿ al-bahrayn, Tazkirat ush-shuaro, Badoyiʿ al-vaqoyiʿ, as well as Navoi’s Tarixi anbiyo va hukamo and Tarixi mulki Ajam. The authors harmonize traditional Islamic worldviews with historical narration, expanding the evidentiary base, conducting cross-comparisons, and synthesizing conclusions to present history as a coherent, internally logical whole. The Herat school, in turn, exerted a strong influence on the historical-literary traditions of Turan in subsequent centuries.

Abstract

This article analyses the place and content of religious instruction in the educational textbooks produced by the Turkestan Jadids in the early twentieth century. Drawing on the primers and religious-subject textbooks authored by Mahmudkhoja Behbudi, Munavvar Qori Abdurashidkhanov, Abdulla Avloni, and Saidrasul Saidazizi, the study demonstrates that the new-method (usul-i jadid) reform did not abolish religious teaching but rather reformed its methodology and content. The findings confirm that in Jadid maktabs, Qurʼanic literacy was taught through the phonetic method (usul-i savtiya), while creed, ritual practice, ethics, and the history of Islam were taught in the mother tongue — systematically and intelligibly. The author assesses the Jadid educational project as a movement of renewal (tajdid) within the Islamic tradition.
