The mission of the International Journal of Literature and Language Studies (IJLLS) is to provide readers with the development of language studies in linguistics and literature. In addition to manuscripts that center on the study, we welcome manuscripts on a wide range of topics relating to the technology used for language development, cultural impact on languages, computational linguistics, and philosophy of language. IJLLS publishes scholarly conceptual, theoretical, and empirical manuscripts on the study of language and focused on literature and linguistic analysis and development. Submissions to the journal should be readable and understandable by a wide audience. Manuscripts should therefore also focus on analysis or illustration of the issues covered, rather than merely providing a mathematical or technical coverage, which would be more suitable for a specialist journal. All manuscripts are submitted and reviewed electronically. We provide our published authors with both a quality publication and the widespread readership that comes from publishing all manuscripts online within a few weeks of acceptance. This approach ensures that published works are read and cited by the widest possible audience.

Abstract

This article analyzes controversial issues related to the history of composition, authorship, and textual features of the 15th-century masnavi “Yusuf and Zulaykho,” created in Balkh. It emphasizes that the story of Yusuf is a widely circulated transnational motif in Eastern literature and exists in various versions in different languages and authored by different writers. The study highlights two competing views regarding the date of the work’s composition—Hijri 812 (1409–1410) and Hijri 874 (1469)—based on abjad calculations and textual differences in manuscript copies. Furthermore, the views of scholars such as Abdurauf Fitrat, Mehmed Fuad Köprülü, Edgard Blochet, and Khalida Dolu are comparatively analyzed, and the attribution of the work to Durbek or other authors is discussed. The article concludes by substantiating the necessity of producing a critical scholarly edition by unifying all available manuscripts.

Abstract

Abstract. The rapid expansion of global video-on-demand (VOD) ecosystems has altered the paradigm of cross-cultural media consumption, presenting unique challenges for Audiovisual Translation (AVT). Slang, serving as a highly volatile, culture-specific carrier of subcultural identity and emotional intensity, sits at the center of this transformation. This paper investigates the dual-layered filtering process—comprising the mentality filter, which involves socio-cognitive and cultural frameworks, and the censorship filter, which encompasses legal, institutional, and self-imposed regulatory mechanisms. Together, these filters shape the translation of contemporary English audiovisual slang into structurally and culturally distinct target contexts. Utilizing comparative, descriptive, and content-analysis methodologies grounded in translation studies, this study evaluates the systematic shifts from original non-standard dialogue to translated subtitles and dubbing scripts. The findings indicate a pronounced systemic preference for domestication and euphemization, leading to a structural neutralization of slang expressions. This article serves as an academic guide for students and researchers analyzing the balance between source-text fidelity and target-market acceptability.
