Abstract

Bitung Karangria Sub-district is located in a strategic location and has great potential for development. Apart from optimal support by the government, the success of tourism development cannot be separated from the active participation of the community. This research aims to see the extent of community participation in Bitung Karangria Sub-district in making local tourism development a success and also to determine the driving and inhibiting factors encountered by the community. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach, where data is collected through interviews with the government and local communities. The research results show that the community has actively participated through participation in the form of donations of ideas and energy as well as through participation by implementing their skills. It was also found that several factors driving local community participation were the opportunity to improve economic welfare, the existence of psychological support from the government which was willing to listen to input and criticism from the community and the presence of elements of society who had a strong tourism knowledge background. However, there are several factors that hinder community participation, for example the lack of readiness and awareness to participate and the inadequate knowledge and skills of some communities to participate actively.   ABSTRACT Bitung Karangria Sub-district is located in a strategic location and has great potential for development. Abstract

Increasing awareness and compliance with food sanitation principles is crucial for ensuring public safety and health. This study aims to evaluate and enhance awareness and adherence to food sanitation principles at Taman Kota Tarutung. Employing a quantitative approach, the research collects data through surveys and interviews with food vendors and visitors at the park. The primary focus is to identify the level of vendors' knowledge about food sanitation standards and to assess the implementation of proper sanitation practices in food preparation and storage. The results indicate that while most vendors have a basic understanding of food sanitation, compliance with good sanitation practices remains low. These findings highlight the need for more intensive educational programs and stricter enforcement of sanitation regulations. Recommendations include conducting food sanitation workshops, increasing routine inspections by local authorities, and launching awareness campaigns for visitors. This study is expected to contribute to improving food sanitation standards at Taman Kota Tarutung and enhancing overall public health

Abstract

Tarutung City, as the center of government and commerce in North Tapanuli Regency, faces environmental sanitation issues that contribute to the increase in mosquito populations. This study aims to analyze the condition of environmental sanitation and mosquito control efforts in Tarutung City. A descriptive-analytical approach was used to assess environmental cleanliness, the availability of sanitation facilities, and vector control programs implemented by the local government. The results of the study indicate that environmental sanitation in some areas remains inadequate, with many water storage sites found to be breeding grounds for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, the primary cause of dengue fever. Control efforts, such as fogging and the elimination of mosquito breeding sites (PSN), have not been optimal due to the lack of community participation and awareness of the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness. This study recommends enhancing public education programs, improving waste management, and conducting regular monitoring of high-risk areas to reduce mosquito populations and prevent disease spread. Strengthening cooperation between the government and the community is crucial to achieving a healthier environment free from mosquito threats
