Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami dampak penumpukan sampah di TPS Pasar Ciwastra terhadap kesejahteraan mental masyarakat dan kepedulian lingkungan warga di sekitarnya. Pendekatan psikologi lingkungan digunakan untuk menganalisis bagaimana kualitas lingkungan fisik yang kotor, berbau, dan dipenuhi sampah memengaruhi stres, kenyamanan, keterikatan tempat, serta perilaku prososial lingkungan seperti partisipasi dalam menjaga kebersihan. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif melalui observasi lapangan dan wawancara mendalam dengan 12 responden yang terdiri dari pedagang pasar, petugas kebersihan, operator insinerator, tim buser Dinas Lingkungan Hidup, dan warga sekitar yang beraktivitas di Pasar Ciwastra. Data dianalisis secara tematik untuk menggali pengalaman subjektif, tekanan psikologis, mekanisme koping, dan dinamika sosial-ekologis dalam pengelolaan sampah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penumpukan sampah menimbulkan bau menyengat, gangguan estetika, dan rasa tidak nyaman yang berkontribusi pada stres, kecemasan, kelelahan emosional, serta penurunan kualitas tidur dan kenyamanan beraktivitas. Paparan lingkungan yang buruk juga melemahkan keterikatan emosional terhadap tempat, menurunkan rasa memiliki terhadap ruang publik, dan mengurangi motivasi untuk berperilaku pro-lingkungan, terutama ketika warga menilai pengelolaan TPS tidak memadai. Selain itu, ditemukan dilema sosial-ekologis antara kebutuhan penghidupan dan keterbatasan kapasitas pengelolaan sampah, yang memengaruhi kepercayaan terhadap pemerintah dan persepsi kontrol warga. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan strategi terpadu berupa peningkatan frekuensi pengangkutan darurat, penyediaan area penampungan tertutup, pengaturan distribusi sampah, pengawasan rutin, edukasi berkelanjutan mengenai pemilahan dan 3R, serta insentif bagi warga teladan untuk meningkatkan perceived control, kesejahteraan mental, dan kepedulian prososial terhadap lingkungan di sekitar TPS Pasar Ciwastra.

Abstract

Nitrate (NO₃⁻) concentration is one of the key indicators for evaluating river water quality, particularly in tropical regions with relatively high temperatures, which accelerate the nitrification process in the nitrogen cycle. Increasing human activities, such as residential development, agricultural practices, livestock farming, and aquaculture near rivers, can increase the nitrogen nutrient load, posing a risk of degrading water quality. Traditional methods such as the Pollutant Index (PI) and Water Quality Index (WQI) only reflect current conditions and cannot accurately predict changes in water quality. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) model in predicting nitrate concentrations based on water quality parameters in rivers in tropical regions. This study was conducted by analyzing 164 publications providing data on water physico-chemical parameters, such as temperature, pH, TDS, TSS, DO, BOD, COD, nitrite, ammonia, and electrical conductivity. The obtained data were then processed through data cleaning, logarithmic transformation, feature engineering, and model training using an RBFNN combined with Gradient Boosting and Random Forest methods via an ensemble approach. Model evaluation was performed using the coefficient of determination (R²). The results of the study indicate that this model exhibits excellent predictive capability, with an R² value of 0.9907 for residential riverbanks and 0.9953 for agro-aquatic riverbanks, outperforming conventional ANN models in similar studies in Indonesia, which generally yield R² values in the range of 0.90–0.97, and comparable to the best RBFNN models ever reported in the international literature. Sensitivity analysis indicates that the parameter most influential on nitrate concentration is nitrite (40.25%), followed by electrical conductivity (19.80%) and TDS (11.10%). These results indicate that the RBFNN is effective in modeling nonlinear relationships among water quality parameters and has the potential to be developed as a core component in an early warning system for nitrate pollution, a decision support system for water resource managers, and a more efficient and adaptive data-driven water quality monitoring instrument to support the sustainable management of tropical rivers. Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) frequently exhibit a persistent gap between environmental health compliance and internalized theological conviction. This gap explains why healthy and clean behaviors (PHBS) developed within the pesantren rarely persist once students return home. This study evaluated the effectiveness of Muhammadiyah Environmental Fiqh-based education in improving PHBS knowledge among female students at PP Taruna Al-Qur’an, Sleman. Employing a pre–post intervention design with Normalized Gain (N-Gain) analysis, 188 female students participated in a structured educational intervention delivered in a single 400-minute session. Pre-test results showed a mean correct-answer rate of 10% (very low category), while post-test results reached 93% (very high category). The N-Gain Score of 0.92 fell within the high effectiveness category according to Hake’s criteria, indicating that 92% of the available learning space was successfully filled. The study also confirmed that Muhammadiyah Environmental Fiqh, rooted in universally applicable Quranic principles, can be effectively adopted by non-AUM pesantren institutions. These findings affirm that theological framing is not merely normatively meaningful but also pedagogically superior in health education interventions within Islamic educational settings.

Abstract

Chicken meat is a source of animal protein that contributes significantly to meeting the protein needs of the Indonesian population. High consumption of chicken meat must be balanced with improvements in food safety, as the product tends to spoil quickly and is susceptible to bacterial contamination, particularly by Escherichia coli. This study aims to determine the presence of Escherichia coli contamination in chicken meat sold by street vendors in the Warungboto Urban Village area. This study employed a descriptive method. The samples consisted of broiler chicken meat obtained from 11 roadside vendors in the Warungboto Urban Village area. A total sampling technique was used. The Total Plate Count (TPC) method was used to determine the number of Escherichia coli. Vendor hygiene and sanitation were assessed using a questionnaire developed from hygiene and sanitation standards. Testing conducted to detect Escherichia coli contamination in 11 broiler chicken meat samples using the Total Plate Count method revealed that 100% of the samples exceeded the maximum limit for Escherichia coli contamination established by SNI 01-7388-2009, which is < 1x10¹ CFU/g. Observations regarding the vendors' hygiene and sanitation practices indicated that implementation remains suboptimal. Escherichia coli counts in all broiler chicken meat samples exceeded the maximum microbial contamination limit, and vendors' implementation of hygiene and sanitation practices was suboptimal.

Abstract

Small-scale batik industries generate substantial amounts of solid and liquid waste during the waxing, dyeing, and wax-removal (pelorodan) stages, yet most operate without adequate treatment facilities. This literature review aims to synthesize the characteristics of solid and liquid waste from small-scale batik production, current waste management practices, and pollution-reduction strategies reported in the scientific literature, in order to identify feasible improvement measures for micro and small batik enterprises. A narrative literature review was conducted by searching Google Scholar, ResearchGate, DOAJ, and institutional repositories using Indonesian and English keywords related to batik waste, wastewater characteristics, and cleaner production, followed by screening for relevance, recency, and source credibility; twenty-three sources published between 2013 and 2026 were included in the synthesis. The review found that solid waste mainly consists of fabric scraps, spent wax, dye packaging, and combustion ash, most of which remain unsorted, while liquid waste from dyeing and wax removal commonly exceeds regulatory limits for chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand, and total suspended solids, with reported values varying widely across production sites. Current management practices in small enterprises remain limited to dilution and simple settling before discharge. Reported improvement measures include cleaner production, wax recovery and reuse, natural dye substitution, low-cost treatments such as coagulation-flocculation, electrocoagulation, and anaerobic-aerobic biofiltration, and communal treatment facilities supported by collective institutional arrangements. The review concludes that pollution reduction in small-scale batik industries requires an integrated approach combining source-level waste reduction, appropriate low-cost technology, and collective governance, while noting the need for further primary field research.

Abstract

An alternative monitoring tool of fine particulate matter (PM₂.₅) is required to support air quality management. It is due to the limited availability and high cost of high-standard instruments that encouraged the use of low-cost sensors based on the Internet of Things. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of the PMS5003 and PMS9003 sensors against reference instrument of the Met One ES-642 operated by the Jambi City Environmental Agency, as well as to analyze the relationship between temperature and relative humidity with the measurement results. The study used a quantitative design with field observations conducted over 25 days during April–May 2026. Evaluation was carried out using descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation test, Friedman test, coefficient of determination, MBE, MAE, RMSE, and conversion of PM₂.₅ concentration into the Air Pollutant Standard Index (ISPU). The results show that both sensors were able to capture the pattern of PM₂.₅ concentration changes, but tended to produce higher values than the reference instrument. PMS5003 had an MBE of 6.17 µg/m³, MAE of 17.34 µg/m³, RMSE of 23.53 µg/m³, and R² of 0.12, while PMS9003 had an MBE of 10.12 µg/m³, MAE of 18.40 µg/m³, RMSE of 27.16 µg/m³, and R² of 0.11. Relative humidity showed a moderate positive relationship, while temperature showed a weak negative relationship. Low-cost sensors have the potential to be used for indicative monitoring, but their interpretation must take measurement bias and humidity conditions into account.

Abstract

The Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) is a crucial unit for infection control within hospitals. To effectively conduct its operations, the CSSD at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta requires adequate human resources, facilities and infrastructure, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)—all of which must be managed collaboratively to achieve service quality goals. This study aims to examine the human resources, availability of facilities and infrastructure, and SOPs within the CSSD unit at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. A qualitative method employing a case study approach was used. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with three informants and through direct observation; informants were selected using purposive sampling and included the unit supervisor and two CSSD staff members. Methodological triangulation was employed to ensure data validity. The results indicate that staffing levels and training received align with the 2009 Ministry of Health guidelines on CSSD management, although work structure requirements have not yet been fully met. While the availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) complies with Ministry of Health guidelines, the workspace and existing facilities/infrastructure are not yet optimal or fully compliant with Minister of Health Regulation Number 40 of 2022 regarding technical requirements for hospital buildings, infrastructure, and medical equipment.
